CNN Poll: Romney 57% Gingrich 19% Paul 18%

Just a brief confirmation of the ending of the primary season. PDF is here.

CNN March 24-25   Romney 36% Santorum 26% Gingrich 15% Paul 17%

CNN April 13-15  Romney 57% Gingrich 19% Paul 18%

Virtually all Santorum’s support went to Romney. Let the general campaign start.

Update: As to some who keep saying that Romney is unelectable, here is a nice snapshot of general election polls that just came out:

General Election: Romney vs. Obama Rasmussen Tracking Obama 44, Romney 47 Romney +3
General Election: Romney vs. Obama CNN/Opinion Research Obama 52, Romney 43 Obama +9
General Election: Romney vs. Obama Gallup Tracking Obama 45, Romney 47 Romney +2
General Election: Romney vs. Obama Reuters/Ipsos Obama 47, Romney 43 Obama +4
General Election: Romney vs. Obama FOX News Obama 44, Romney 46 Romney +2

All these polls have trended towards Romney, even CNN, and especially Reuters/Ipsos went from Obama +11 to Obama +4. In most of these polls Romney is getting around 90% of Republicans which is the usual for any Republican nominee. To claim that Romney is unelectable is baseless and needs evidence just like I presented here.

      I suspect if that same poll had Gingrich closing the gap, it would somehow become acceptable.

      57%…inevitable delegate math…and again, once Romney is officially the nominee, will you be supporting his removal of Barack Obama? Thus far, all I have seen is SQUAT for an answer.

        As someone who has been called a Kos troll by you, I have to speak up here. Trolling the site, and beating up on everyone who hasn’t completely jumped aboard the Romney train is NOT going to help get more people to the polls in November. Granted, there is one individual on RS who I agree is a bit over the top, some people are just going to take longer to accept the crappy hand we’ve been dealt. As someone who is working toward a PHD in political science, I would expect that you would understand that. Go to The Right Scoop and start talking up Romney, and see what kind of reaction you get. Better yet, try Free Republic. In the end, most of them will end up voting for Romney, but it won’t because some guy on the internet accused them of being a troll.

            …you have some serious issues, and I question whether you are, in fact, a “Political Science Professor.” If I think back 20 years, I have a hard time envisioning any of my professors trolling the internet accusing everyone they disagree with of being “trolls.” As I said, there is at least one, maybe two, who are definitely over the top. But, I highly doubt they are from the left, and they will probably hold their nose and vote for Romney. It won’t be because you called them trolls.

            By the way, it doesn’t take a political scientist to understand that an Obama supporter not voting for Romney loses us NOTHING. You and your ilk have been posting nothing but LW talking points for days now. My opinion of you is based on observations of YOUR behavior…nothing more, nothing less.

            Convince me otherwise or stop whining…but pick one.

            However, I will not rule out voting for him as others have. As I stated in a diary the other day, I want conservatives to hold his feet to the fire, so he upholds the conservative principles that he laid out in his campaign. We’ll see how it goes.

            By the way….no. I would not vote for Obama.

            Levin is adressing concerns, and pointing out how Romney can aleviate them.

            that this time around, conservatives move towards a more measured support of Romney: instead of defending everything that he does or says, and criticizing anyone who has problems with the Anointed, we can constructively agree with appropriate criticisms without losing perspective on why we would prefer a Republican victory over an Obama re-election.

            The already-extremely polarized environment, coupled with the additional polarization I fear will result from the certainly-to-come vicious media attacks on Romney would seem (to me, at least) to encourage exactly the mindless fidelity you described.

            But now I think of (a) the resentment among many at Romney as the ‘establishment choice’ and (b) the experience of George W. (did we hopefully learn our lesson?), so I think i might see where you’re coming from.

            Aside from the mess in 07-08, he actually did a fairly decent job as President given the hand he was dealt. Compared to Obama, Bush was like Ronald Reagan.

            I don’t blame Bush for the mess we’re in, the changes to the Community Reinvestment Act (which was arguably a stupid act to begin with) that set us on the path to a train wreck was under Clinton.

            Bush tried to fix it in 03, then Republicans, including Sen. John McCain, kept pushing to get the problem fixed) in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

            One of the people that blocked attempts to head off disaster was Barack Obama.

            I liked Bush, cause while I didn’t always agree with him, I liked the fact he did not stand for people attacking this country. He genuinely loves this country, unlike Obama.

            The problem I have with Romney, is that I don’t believe he’s being honest with us. I got the same feeling about Obama in 2007, when people were saying Hannity lost his mind (which he hadn’t as we all know).

            This election probably be one of the most important ones in our lifetime, I want to get things right, not rush through pick a nominee in a blind panic and then get clobbered in the general.

            I’ve said if Romney is the nominee, I will vote Republican in the general, but my vote’s only going to be about stopping Obama. If Newt Gingrich is the nominee, I’m voting for Newt Gingrich.

            I may not be the best at getting my points across, but like everyone else here I want Obama out of office. However I also want a candidate I can support, not one that I feel like I’m going to choke to death on my own vomit in order to vote for him.

            I don’t believe this primary is over, my state hasn’t voted, I know Texas hasn’t either. If people here haven’t had their state primary, get out to vote in the primary and if you can’t stand Romney then vote for Newt.

            I had a feeling that statement might be a bit cryptic…

            Bush screwed up, A LOT. He oversaw serious erosions to our civil liberties, the first bailout of private industry by the US gov’t, etc. etc. etc. But all you saw from the right, at least publicly, and in my own experience, with just about everyone I knew, was unqualified defense of Bush. And look what that got us. And the defense that Bush loves his country applies to Romney. (I voted for Newt in La. back a couple of weeks.)

            I’m glad you are going to vote for Mittens if needs be. And if the worst happens, I hope you’ll be here with me and other intrepid ones, plotting the next steps we as individuals can take.

            It is not merely a choice between Obama and Romney. Conservatives have to think long and hard whether they want to send a message to the republican party, or grab the ankles once more.

            I’ve heard the song and dance before. If not now, when? If we don’t have the stones to take a stand against the moderates in liberals in our own party, what hope do we have of getting any kind of reforem were Romney to win? The party would be completely under the control of centrists and lliberals. All Romney supporters are doing is reinforcing to Boehner-ish republicans that there’s no need to even pretend to moderate their outrageous spending.

            Electing Romney also guarantees we won’t have a conservative candidate in 2016 either. His election ensures we won’t have even the possibility of a conservative president until 2020.

            The outrages show by the people, with phone calls and e-mails made him back down.
            We have and can do it.
            If Romney wants to get elected again, he will have ti listen to the people.

            Maybe a few times. Did nothing to stop what, at the time, was the largest expansion of federal gov’t in recent history. Or TARP. Or medicare part D. Or a multitude of other ruinous programs.

            Out of all Bush’s disasters, we stopped him in 2 instances, amnesty and Harriet Miers. That’s not much of a batting average. The Bush presidency was horrible for the country and most of us voted for him.
