Obama Surrogate Debbie Wasserman Schultz Says “Surge Was Not Effective.”

If you keep lying about the surge and saying it did not work, you can't blame people for thinking that you actually do not support the troops

This is a stunning interview with Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Just get a load of this part:

CBSNews.com: But isn’t it somewhat ironic that it may be the surge that he opposed, that John McCain supported, that allows Senator Obama, if he becomes president, to begin withdrawing troops from a much more stable situation?

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz: Look, **the whole stated purpose of the surge was to provide separation and relief**, so that there could be political progress. Which **there has been none**. None of. So, that’s why we continue to say that **the surge was not effective**. Because the stated purpose of the surge was to provide that sort of separation so that politically, the Iraqi government could stand on their own. And they have yet to be able to do that.

That’s pretty stunning that a member of Congress could be so misleading in an attempt to totally discredit the troops.

The purpose of the surge was to rout out Al Qaeda, stabilize Iraq, and provide conditions to make it secure enough for Iraqis to stand up and take over.

That has happened.

This goes directly back to Obama saying he’d still oppose the surge if he had to revote. The fact is that the surge has worked. And here is a surrogate for Barack Obama’s campaign saying the surge has not worked.

That is totally unbelievable, but it goes to the heart of why so many people can believe Obama would ignore the troops and refuse to meet with them.

Obama’s campaign wants us to believe he supports the troops, but not the war. Don’t believe they support the troops when they are not even willing to admit that what the troops have done was, in fact, successful.

There were two “revolutions” during the period 1770-1800 that caught the attention of the world. One was ours, the other was the French. Ours was arguably a conservative war, in that what was fought for was the preservation of liberties to which our ancestors had become accustomed to exercising, and therefore there is a certain sense in which “Revolution” is the wrong word to describe it. The French one was a progressive one in that it sought to do away with the old and create something new, and this one it is proper to call a Revolution. Ours was successful, the French a failure.

Since that time, the model of the French revolution has been imbued with outcome of the American revolution by Progressives. Since what is happening in Iraq is more akin to the English assistance to the colonies before the War of Independence and not the French revolution, Progressives can’t see that what we are doing is the correct thing and that it is working. They also can’t comprehend that when the time is right, because we did fight against the English to secure those freedoms, we will be willing to walk away from Iraq without a “revolution.” It simply doesn’t fit their preconception of how the world works.

I think we need to keep that in mind and keep presenting that truth to the American people. I’m not sure we ought to use words like “stunning” and “misleading” in describing their viewpoint. It leaves one with the sense that what they say is surprising. It is not surprising: it is to be expected from people who are so wholly disconnected from reality. Our reaction to these sorts of things ought to be more along the lines of “well else were you expecting? Of course this is the sort of thing they believe. It has nothing to do with reality, whether that reality be the support of our troops or the political situation in Iraq, or what the strategy for defeating islamofascism ought to be.”

If you look at my report on Florida congressional races in the state diaries, you will see that Debbie Schultz is completely safe this year.

She can afford to be stupid and make the indefensible talking points for Obama.

If you see Tim Mahoney say something this dumb, then take notice.

to challenge the notion that there has been no political progress. This is pure nonsense. Not only has the most recent U.S. embassy report proclaimed that 15 of 18 benchmarks are being met satisfactorily, but frankly, anyway you look at it there has been political progress. What exactly do the Democrats call Maliki leading an operation to root out JAM in Basrah followed by another operation rooting out AQI in Mosul? Isn’t this political progress. Ramadi has gone from one of the most violent places in the world to one of the safest and in part its because they have an effective local government. Isn’t this political progress? They have regional elections scheduled for the fall. Isn’t this political progress? How much politicial progress will we need before Democrats admit there is political progress?

What Obamites miss are the central benefits achieved because of the ?Surge?. This is of course in deference to the Chief Denier himself. These facts are undeniable, irrespective of how one views the war.

The Surge created an environment in which political reconciliation could take place. I believe the accomplishments, in terms of what has been achieved, well outweigh the talking points of Democrats. The Iraq national budget went from about $41 billion to $70 billion and jumped in percentage related to investment from 55% to 70%. The only reason the budget did not go higher was their parliament felt it may be implausible to actually effectively spend that money. Sounds to me as though more Democrats should go to Baghdad, skip the photo ops? and learn a few things about effective government.

It took foresight, courage and decisiveness to embark upon the Surge strategy. When every liberal and pseudo Republican was screaming for retreat, our President, supported by wise people such as McCain, listened to the military and commenced this action. So while Obama and his ilk stood in the wings, those who knew better and supported a military entrusted with our security showed leadership. Obama demurred because he lacked the trust and faith in our military to achieve the objectives. Obama is destined to fail this country miserably because his decision paradigm is influenced by a severe lack of experience, a socialist/liberal philosophy, incorrigible judgment and deep seated doubt in this country. Trust and force of will are not a bumper they are qualities endeared only to true leaders; which Obama will never be.

She’s right, but she got the country wrong. There has been considerable political progress in Iraq, and it all happened after The Surge stabilized things there.

The U.S. Congress has been an utter failure during the same time period. All we hear is whining and complaining about how they can’t get anything done, instead of real leadership.

Which country had the more difficult environment in which to work? Are they really saying that the so-called idiot Bush has been able to out-smart them and out-maneuver them so effectively? If so, either he’s much smarter than they give him credit, or they’re much dumber.

    My money is on both.

    D-Day was NOT effective.

All it accomplished was killing a bunch of Nazi’s, stopping the Holocaust and taking down Hitler.

There are STILL political differences in Europe.

48 people killed in Iraq yesterday in the deadliest bombing of the year.

The Surge = Weapons of Mass Destruction

    More Republican lies.

Isn’t it obvious? The Republicans needed to make up The Surge to have something positive to say. Iraq is as bad as ever!

  • NightTwister

You hid yourself well for two weeks. That’s quite an accomplishment, I must say.

As for failure, all you need to do is look to your liberal congressional leadership. They are the definition of failure.

I have to say though, they have done a fine job renaming Post Offices.

Thank you for enlightening me to the new Liberal Logic, a system by which simple relationships are defined by crime waves.

After applying your carefully designed formula, I have determeined that due to a recent rash of murders, bank robberies and violent crime perpetrated by insurgents in LA, the US would save billions of dollars by withdrawing from the war torn region, and just admit defeat.

Next, we will abandon NYC, DC and several hotbeds where lawlessness prevails! The people will be better off without the US meddling in their internal affairs.

Such Login and Reason are self evident…

according to Joe Biden the Taliban is not our enemy. Heaven save us from these Democrat idiots. To make it worse, these are so-called “leaders” in their party. Is it required that you check your brain at the door to be a member of the Democcrat party? It certainly appears so.
