The House GOP Protest is Working. Pelosi Folding Like a Cheap Tent.

The Hill is reporting overnight Nancy Pelosi is caving to the House Republican protest.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday night dropped her staunch opposition to a vote on offshore oil drilling in the House.

Republicans, reacting to high gas prices, have demanded a vote on additional oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf, where drilling is currently blocked by a moratorium. Until now, Pelosi (D-Calif.) has resisted the idea as a “hoax.” But in an interview on CNN’s Larry King Live, she indicated that she was open to a vote.

“They have this thing that says drill offshore in the protected areas,” Pelosi said. “We can do that. We can have a vote on that.”

Keep up the pressure. Later on today I hope to have up individual videos on the variously targeted Democratic congressmen who are in their districts saying they are fighting for lower gas prices in Washington, but are not actually on the floor of the House standing shoulder to shoulder with the House Republicans.

In the meantime, circulate this video to all your friends:

This is bad news – It would be better if the Dems did nothing IMHO. Now they’ll have a two-pronged attack that helps the greenies long-term and gets us nothing while also helping vulnerable Dems this fall.

    1) Assuming every Republican shows up and votes for whatever comes up, she had to count how many Dems in bluish districts would be permitted to vote for it and still have it fail. This is what will happen with any GOP proposals or major amendments. The conservative [sic] Dems will be able to tell their constituents not to blame them.

    2) The Dem version will be something that will pass regardless of what the GOP does. It will give the left many things and set up a compromise [sic] for the people who want more drilling that will have so many limitations that it will mean de facto that no new drilling was actually approved. The conservative [sic] Dems will tell their constituents to give them the credit. The other 98% of the Dems will tell their constituents no to worry because wink wink there isn’t going to be any new drilling anywhere regardless of what the bill says.

    for #1 obviously

In reality, the only way we’ll get any drilling done, ever, is to vote the bums out. I hope people realize this. Compromise on this issue can’t be allowed, because any compromise will serve to restrict access to our resources in some way. It is unfortunate that things have become so bad in Washington that a simple issue like supply and demand of a vital commodity is politicised to the extent that it becomes the #1 issue in America.

    Digging In (Kathryn Jean Lopez)

A prediction from a Senate friend that rings true:

Pelosi will come back in September and offer a vote on a bill that includes “drilling.” The drilling component will be even weaker than what?s in the Gang of 10 bill, and it will be coupled with obscene amounts of new spending, taxes on oil companies and other provisions that Republicans won?t support. The headline in the next morning?s New York Times will be “Republicans block bill to provide oil drilling.”

Not that we didn’t already assume that, seeing as how her lips were moving.

When push comes to shove, she and her cronies will continue to stall, to play parliamentary games, to lard up any useful bill with such bad stuff as to make it completely unhelpful (you know, like that same proposal that the Idiot Five have signed on to).

But it sure is fun to watch her crawfishing.

To help vote the bum from my district out of office.

Representative Shuster is correct, you won’t see Chris Carney there. He is too busy back home (5 minutes from my own home) on his paid vacation eating bbq. Notice how he manages to have all sides of the issue covered? And how he spins earmarks? Jerk, bum, etc, etc, and isn’t he humble (remarkable record?!?!). We need to get Chris Hackett in to replace this loser or we’ll be stuck with him for a long time.

And that Republican County Commissioner (newly elected trial lawyer who I couldn’t hold my nose to vote for) mentioned at the fundraiser better watch out when he comes up for re-election.
