EDITOR OF REDSTATE

I told you guys Georgia was not in play.

The Obama team realizes it too.

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has put the brakes on ads that were running in seven states carried by the GOP in the 2004 presidential election, FOX News has learned.

Of the seven states — including Alaska, Georgia, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota — Florida and Virginia are considered key battlegrounds this year. Obama’s decision to stop advertising in those states is raising eyebrows.

They say it is related to the convention next week, but I really don’t believe that.

Considering the spectacular burn rate and the lack of poll numbers going up in those states, it was time he aborted the effort anyway.

All for show and media buzz. To be sure, it got lots of media buzz and the media will never play up the take downs as much as they played up the fact Obama was targeting these states.

As I said way back when, he only was doing it to distract from how close things were for him in states he should be confidently ahead.

Now he’s got to save his money for the hard slog. In the end, I think running these ads will be one of the strategic moves that should not have been made.

If there is any strategy to the Obama campaign in the first place.

I’m sick of seeing that same stupid “I’ll create 5 million jobs from out of unicorn farts and pixie dust” commercial that has been running non-stop here in NC during the Olympics.

I can see cutting out ads in some of those states, but FL and VA??? The latter is quite confusing since it is his best pick of those states to flip blue. Maybe the Obama camp’s internal polling is showing something the other pollsters aren’t picking up…

Or, he’s planning to pick Kaine and thinks that will bump him up in VA…

    …that was priceless.

I kinda like the view of Obama spending huge amounts of money with no results; his Central Planning Team standing around scratching their heads searching for solutions, which session always end with “We need more money!”

The same Brain Trust that outspent Hillary 4 to 1 in PA and still lost; the same Acme Academy grads that have spent $4 million+ in FL where McCain hasn’t spent a dime (and, yet, are losing) are still running this show –stupid is as stupid does.

to make big noise about a campaign in rural or “Bush” Alaska – that’s not a reference to GWB, it’s a reference to the parts of the State that are accessible only by air and summertime boats and barges. Those are about the only districts outside Juneau, the university district in Fairbanks, and the snobby “granddaddy made millions mining and I’ve got mine” downtown in Anchorage where a Democrat wins sometimes anyway – no real effort required. Here’s the ADN story and some blog responses: http://community.adn.com/adn/node/129391

No matter what’s going on elsewhere on the ballot, Alaska isn’t going to go to a Democrat for President, not this year anyway.

FYI, for any that go to the link, Mayor Whitaker of Fairbanks sorta flies a Republican flag of convenience at times, but he’s more of a Green/Libertarian really, not out of place with Democrats.

Guess that leaves 5756 states left in play.

Or did his Georgian translators all quit?

maybe we are reading too much in the ad withdrawals. Maybe the VP pick has something to do with what these states may have in common. Maybe he needs to shore up his supporters in the blue states and wait for the bounce from the convention before hitting these fence-sitters Aain.

Or maybe His pick could steal some Red States? Umm ??

Someone should check with Tim Kaine to see if the cessation of ads in VA raised his eyebrow.

is not in play either, based on this news. So much for that prediction. :-)

those states? Not a chance. Not even VA. The south is now solidly McCain and my guess is all standard red states will be solidly McCain shortly after the conventions conclude. A few typical battlegrounds will remain, but those seven won’t be in them. Not even FL.

Hopefully the Putin team will realize it too…. :-)

You mean he can raise it even more than its normal position? Does it have a Medusa-like effect?

“I kinda like the view of Obama spending huge amounts of money with no results”

Dittos! I was really hoping that the Obama campaign crank up the election efforts in the critical states of Guam, Puerto Rico, and maybe revisit Berlin to nail down the all-critical Ostlander vote.

And send more money to Texas. It’s like the charge of the light brigade. We’ve got the big guns here … the truth about Obama.

  • David_Hinz

maybe he was setting us all up for a challenge when he wins on EV with 100 extra from those seven states.

  • jdripper

In 2004 Howard Dean and his campaign thought he was being so clever running TV ads in the Crawford, TX, area.
    It wasn’t.

    You heard it HERE first:

Arizona will not be in play this year.

    Your’re welcome.

on abortion. 18 months ago, before I knew of Obama I said the dems would lose in 08 because they had rejected Clinton DLCism.

    good job GC

it’s Obama/Nunn with Bob Barr getting near 10% traction (20% should McCain screw the pooch on his VP pick)..?
