Putting the Biden Pick in Perspective

  1. When Joe Biden entered the United States Senate, John McCain was in his fifth year of captivity at the Hanoi Hilton.

  2. Barry Obama was eight when Biden began his Senate career.

  3. Nixon was starting his second term as President.

Barack Obama’s campaign says Joe Biden is “not of Washington.” Linda Douglass, formerly of ABC News and now an Obama hack (not that it’d be different were she still at ABC) told Wolf Blitzer, “you know, the thing is, he is not of washington. he is, as you well know, wolf, he doesn’t own a home in washington. he goes home every single night to his family in delaware.”

What spin. The man went to Washington while McCain was still being tortured and yet McCain is somehow more of Washington that Biden? Give me a freakin’ break.

He takes the AMTRAK… not that it makes a difference…

We pay for the Amtrak and then we reimburse him for his ticket…

  • bs

he wouldn’t be “of Washington” either.

    What a maroon.

  • ranscot

this is actually quite a polarizing pick for Senator Obama.

Senator Biden is CFR and the cheerleader for corporations in the Senate.

Senator Obama defeated Senator Clinton by tapping into the progressive vein of the Democratic Party.

By choosing Biden, Obama has thrown his primary voters under the bus for his backers at the DNC.

    There will be backlash.

  • PhxG

so Biden can commute. Seems like a typical DC insider trade off to me.

  • ConservaGeek

Joe Biden has run for President twice… once in 1988, and once this year. This year he didn’t survive past Iowa, where he finished fifth with about 1% of the vote.

In short, this is not a man who interests 2008 Democrat voters at all.

  • The_Rebel

Baron & Budd. Just this month, founder and trial lawyer Fred Baron allegedly paid for former presidential candidate John Edwards’s mistress to re-locate. His firm’s employees have given Biden over $100,000 during his career.

    Just saying…….

  • SteveLA

One of the things I hope someone brings up is how little “real jobs” in the real world the Dynamic Duo of “The One and Gaffy Joe” have had.

Joe Biden was first elected at 29, after years of school and short stint in a law firm.

John McCain may have married well, and has the houses to prove it, but the dynamic duo have never really earned a living, something John McCain as a military officer did.

How to frame that point is beyond me, but there is a point to be made.

  • Jwt4412

Could you imagine the reaction of the Hillary supporters when this condescending fool started ripping into a mother of five during the VP debates?

I hope McCain picks Palin just to see Biden’s head explode… figuratively not literally.

  • Tim_Schieferecke

    But that’s just me.

  • RedFox84

Backlash like when he rolled over on FISA?
Backlash like when he bailed out of public financing?

Right, you keep telling yourself there will be a backlash.

  • gamecock

  • RedFox84

Oh, and by the by… It’s irrelevant to Obama if there’s a ‘backlash’ from the netroots.

He’s already taken what he needed from you.

And He was never that into you in the first place.

I’d love to see her as Veep candidate, and not just because of her gender. She will be a very strong proponent for the issue that is tailor-made for the GOP to pound the Donkeys… drilling in ANWR!

  • The_Rebel
  • wiseprince

    All by itself

  • ranscot

You must have me confused with someone else. I was running with the Paultards during the primaries.

And I ceded the point on backlash, forgot he sold out on FISA.

  • MCPO_Airdale

    Hope you screen-capped it!

  • Pentagon16

we need to have a strong woman like Palin or even better Meg Whitman as our VP- they would be incapable of reining in Biden’s pomposity and arrogance and it would ensure millions of women would vote for McCain after seeing Biden go off on the mother of five

  • Cowboy

I just caught a replay of the end of the Biden/Obama rally.

I was struck by the slouching Obama sitting in the hot sun behind the gasbag and the look of total boredom and a wry forced half smile on his face.

The look on his face and his body language was screaming WHAT THE —- HAVE THEY DONE TO ME!!!!!

  • kowalski

Trying to put this choice in perspective is a real challenge from anything but the most surrealistic viewpoints.

Let’s think about this for a second:

Barack Obama has chosen a man to be his running mate who has not only said he’s not ready to lead the country, he has said he stands by it in a nationally televised debate. Now he wants to make him President of the United States.

President of the United States is arguably the most important job in the world, and where I come from, people who have a sincere belief that someone isn’t qualified to hold a given job or a position and have said so very clearly and emphatically don’t turn around and do the exact opposite. But that is what Joe Biden has done. And did I mention that it’s the most important job in the world?

I guess for Democrats, the way things work is that if you want to be President, the best thing you should do is have a “respected” senator with “gravitas” say that you shouldn’t be President, and then get him to join your ticket and enlist his help to make you President.

    It all makes sense, no?

Expect four years of the same if Obamiden win.

  • Tim_Schieferecke

Throw a little power or coin his way and he’d sell you his own mother.

  • Mary_Contrary

    Psychologically, Palin = oil.

  • Rod_Patrick
  • mcrill

If only Arizone was next to D.C. he wouldn’t have to be “of Washington”.

Doesn’t it seem that this whole thing is just highlighting the fact that Obama’s been lying ever time he trotted out that wonderful hobby hourse of “Change”?

  • nivlem

I have been reading the blogs all day and
I really do not have a good understanding of this pick by BO. It just doesnt make sense. Were is the “change”? Where is the “newness”?
Where is the passion and vibrancy? This
pick negates all of his original value as a presidential nominee.
Does he really belief he is “the one”, or
is he a puppet being played by different
    forces?
Either way, the last 30 hours have been
a huge boondoggle. How anyone can gain
any confidence from their nominee making decisions as he has is beyond me.
Playing the media well is not a Presidential qualification. Making
clear and decisive decisions is. OB
completely blew it at all levels.

  • RatedTV_MA

why Biden is a PERFECT choice. Both of them are liars and cheaters.

  • dld1717

Remember who was in charge of helping him choose a VP (Caroline Kennedy) so you know she was liking a younger version of Uncle Teddy (Irish, Catholic to boot)

  • RonsBoy

Some think Obama blew it with his vice president pick. I don’t. It’s part of a beautiful stragey to keep the pundrity and press so focused on drama and gimmicks. That’s all they report. An inattentive public will watch the spectacle. Never realizing nothing of importance will have been said.

I know this is truly cynical but really is anyone noticing the Obama campaign in one year of time has managed to say nothing. His opponents have but have been unable to break through the media’s protective coverage. While cracks have appeared in the hull of USS Obama. It could still make port into the White House.

He is sailing right pass the iceberg this national convention is for him. Could you imagine 4 days of Hope and Change in the most flowery language possible. It would be like a 100 word essay stretch out to make a 1000 word essay. It would come painfully obivious all Obama has to offer is just words for the next four years. Unfortunately, it will be the same ones over and over again. Yes no hope and no change from the mantra of Hope and Change.

My prediction is we open with the Obama’s biography. The next few days the Clintons take a self absorb moment to toot their horns. Press will wonder about the ramifications–will Democrats be able to unify. Then out to Invesco Field to learn “Obama is the one we are waiting for (HOPE) and now is the moment we start the CHANGE to heal the world.”

WHAM-BAM!! Nothing said but it did seem historical.

PS McCain is BUSH’s third term.

  • streetwise

a connection that we can look forward to explaining to the supporters of Hope and Change.

  • speciallist

She’s Tori’s sister..want me to hook you two up???

  • graceful_klutz

“Hey, Tavis, I want you to know there’s only four guys served longer than me; there’s still 44 older than me. That’s the important part to know.”

Joe Biden to Tavis Smiley – August 8, 2007

  • Crowe

Is it just me, or does it seem like Obama tried all the “good” options for veep, found they either had “prior obligations” or were screening their calls, and then when forced to make a decision went with The Last Resort.

    Obama was forced to punt.

  • WOSG

He had other plays, and chose a play that will cost him yardage and screws up his campaign strategy in multiple ways.

Baron was the paymaster for Edwards love-child.
Baron has also been a huge builder of the Texas GOP. he is a mini-Soros and an big-money trial lawyer.

  • graceful_klutz

“Baron has also been a huge builder of the Texas GOP. he is a mini-Soros and an big-money trial lawyer.”

According to wikipedia, Baron is a huge fundraiser for the Democratic Party, chaired Edwards 2004 finance committee then Kerry’s, and has given $1.7 million to the Texas Democratic Trust in the last two years.

I am confused RonsBoy as to how you can just trhow out a critical statement as that and yet not back it up with anything definitive. McCain has been a huge critic of the administration on many issues key to conservatives, whether it was the handling of the war in Iraq, pork-barrel spending and earmark, or giving out tax cuts while not cutting spending. Sen. McCain will not be a 3rd Bush term. Yes there will be some similarities (anti-abortion, strong national security influence, low taxes, etc.), but that is the conservative way. There will be differences on how they go about obtaining those goals, with Sen. McCain being more responsible to Americans (fiscal responsibility, engaging allies more, strengthening treaties, and putting more pressure on beligerent nations like Russia). I would love for you to explain how McCain is going to be a 3rd Bush term, because that is a loaded comment that broods much resentment in a large portion of our population and yet you have no ground to stand on with it.

  • Pentagon16

You have your guys confused. John Edwards and Bidens financier is different from the Texas guy. Nice try

  • Neil_Stevens

By the way, if you have a problem, Charter can help.

  • Neil_Stevens

If you wish to appeal to the Directors about the ban, feel free to explain to them why you should be let back on to spout the Obama line of “Third Bush Term.”

  • Rod_Patrick

I mean, there’s nothing to say except … just be careful, Ronsboy. Please don’t think too much. I may not be healthy anymore.

  • itrytobenice

Ron’s boy was clearly being sarcastic at the end and just didn’t put the snark tag on.

Read the whole comment. Either I’m blind, deaf and dumb, or he just posted a cognizant post on Mr. Hopeychangey’s empty suit.

  • bobnivik

or complete non-sequiteur. I don’t think he’d tag that on after typing all of that if it weren’t part of his channeling empty suits.

  • Rod_Patrick

It will take a genius to decipher it as a sarcasm. An average guy like me (only a reader/commenter)won’t take it as such. I want to be educated about issues … that’s my first goal here at RS. Humors and other stuff (e.g., sarcasm)that distract readers on the flow of discussion are not helpful.
What if a independent/moderate read such comment while paying a visit to RS website? How will he/she take it? a sarcasm? I don’t think so. An immediate follow up is necessary to clarify such comment. Or else, it could result to a dangerous “misconnotation”.

Further, I am not sure if such subtle sarcasm is the right way to promote and advance our rep/con principles/agenda here at RS.

  • itrytobenice

Some think Obama blew it with his vice president pick. I don’t. It’s part of a beautiful stragey to keep the pundrity and press so focused on drama and gimmicks. That’s all they report. An inattentive public will watch the spectacle. Never realizing nothing of importance will have been said.

He says what we all know…O is an empty suit full of empty promises but all the media reports is the show.

I know this is truly cynical but really is anyone noticing the Obama campaign in one year of time has managed to say nothing. His opponents have but have been unable to break through the media’s protective coverage. While cracks have appeared in the hull of USS Obama. It could still make port into the White House.

He says that if we have noticed (and we have) Obama has said nothing but we have not been able to break through the veneer of hope/change. Even though his poll numbers are slipping, he could still win this thing.

The convention has pratfalls for an Obama campaign as focused attention may cause people to recognize the emptiness of the affair. All four days are going to be empty sloganeering of hopey changey, stretching what should be a sentence into a campaign. Ronsboy believes this is the iceburg aspect of the convention, people might notice.

This is just a summary of the activities of convention that we know is coming.

WHAM-BAM!! Nothing said but it did seem historical.

Reiterates the convention is going to sound historical, but BO is still just an empty suit.

PS McCain is BUSH’s third term.

The line that is causing the consternation. He is saying that this will be the other big theme of the convention. Mr. Historical HopeyChangey slams McCain as McSame.

All this is just my translation of ronsboy’s comment. And I’m not a sockpuppet, so I won’t sign it in blood.

  • itrytobenice

I guess I’ve already screwed up once today. On the other thread about Biden funneling money to his lobbyist son, I commented that we couldn’t say anything, as McCain supported the military and his son is in the military.

I was definitely joking, but I didn’t even bother to put a snark tag on it. This guy’s entire comment was about the empty suit that is Obama and his campaign, then for the last line, he used an Obama campaign talking point. It is obvious to me, even if it isn’t to anyone else.

I suppose it takes all kinds to make the world go round, but it certainly doesn’t look like a banning offense to me.

  • graceful_klutz

I don’t know why the Baron-Edwards-Biden connection is important, but it is only slightly interesting that Baron specializes in asbestos cases and asbestos was one of Obama’s pet projects while working as a “community organizer” in Chicago.

I also saw on FNC tonight that Rezko was one of Obama’s first clients with his first law firm. I was only half paying attention, but apparently Obama was also involved in a business with Rezko and it was the only business of Rezkos to fail. LOL
