Friends of Barry (Part 1): The Tangled Web Between Bill Ayers and Barack Obama

Oh what a tangled web they weave

Well, it looks like the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records are going to be opened up after all. No doubt the University of Illinois and Barack Obama’s campaign have sufficiently scrubbed the records to remove the most glaring of details about Barry’s friendship with Bill Ayers.

But we know there has to be some panic there. As we have theorized all along, Barry cannot take a punch.

Consider this: despite all the denials and assists from the media in downplaying the relationship, Barack Obama has resorted to a new ad making the case that he has no real relationship with Bill Ayers. This is full blown panic. He’s trying to build up a media sponsored and reported narrative before the world starts digging anew.

Unless those Annenberg records have been sufficiently scrubbed, it is terribly poor timing for Obama. It is an act of desperation. Obama knows people are now paying attention and he knows people are questioning both his ties to the far left and his judgment (Obama calls it “questioning my patriotism”).

The connections between Ayers and Obama, despite Obama’s commercial, are too intertwined to be merely bumps into each other on the sidewalk walking back from New Party meetings.

Bill Ayers helped found and fund Annenberg Challenge and Barack Obama ran the program. In addition, they live just a few blocks from each other in Hyde Park. In 1995, if you will recall, Bill Ayers invited Barack Obama into his living room to raise money for Barack’s Illinois Senate race. Remember, in 1995, Obama was aggressively seeking the communist New Party endorsement.

Ayers even gave Obama money in 2001 for his re-election. The same year, Ayers told the New York Times he didn’t “regret setting bombs.… I feel we didn’t do enough.” Obama did not give the money back.

Here is the key detail. Bill Ayers, a man who thinks he should have done more than try to blow up the Capitol, the Pentagon, and kill a few cops, saw something in Barry Obama that he liked. He liked Barry enough to hold a fundraiser for him and give him money.

What does an unrepentant terrorist see in a politician and like? Whatever it is, I suspect most Americans would not like it if they’d seen it. Maybe that is why Obama is in full panic mode, working hard to change the story and deny the facts.

An advisor to Senator McCain’s campaign tells me, “Senator Obama’s enduring friendship with bomber William Ayers brings serious questions about his judgment to the surface.”

I suspect, now that Obama has gone to great pains to deny the connection, thereby making it a story worth media coverage, we’re gong to be exploring the depths of Obama’s poor judgment.

I cannot believe that Illinois University has this guy on staff. He has a pulpit from which he can spew his garbage to impressionable minds.

  • wt259

is in the eyes of the alumni, er, beholder. Ultimately, the taxpayers are his employers, and bear responsibility for him being able to infect the skulls full of mush around him.

  • CroakerNorge

is how the index of the material will match the actual documents. Apparently an index is like a table of contents for the files. According the Powerline guys, Stanley Kurz was provided an index by the university before his access was denied.

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/08/021285.php

Were documents removed, or maybe just pages in the documents? Either way, could be very interesting.

  • Dem_Lurker

This Ayers guy sounds terrible, how many people did he kill?

  • Erick

They just weren’t good enough to blow up anyone except other members of the terrorist group.

    Nice try, btw.

  • slowmodem

Obama was on the woods board with Ayers and with a comically respectable list of Chicagoans and others ? including Republicans and conservatives

More lies and attacks that is quite frankly getting pathetic. McCain must be getting desperate. The only chance he has is if he just flat out lies and his staff keeps him away from reporters.

  • Vegas_Rick

The information is there for anyone who wants to see. If you can disprove these assertions, please do.

  • blooch

Or is is just a bad case of “Lurker’s Butt” which made you stand up and scratch that itch?

  • Rod_Patrick

You will vote for Obama by November, that’s fine. But be fair. You should at least offer some explanations of the so-called “lies” in the diary. You’ve just repeated what the Ayers Ad said.

But you know what? The gravest lie that a man can come up with is “HALF TRUTH” – missing out vital information. In the Bible, it’s called The Serpent’s Lies. BO has the possession of the whole truth about his relationship with Ayers. Then he has the responsibility of telling the public about everything.

Unless BO tells everything, he is the one committing “The Serpent’s Lies”.

  • spainishirish

It won’t just be what Ayers apprehended in Obama that made him an appealling character. It also–no, mostly–will be if there is any indication Obama apprehended in Ayers and his terrorist past something he liked. It is logical to assume this was a mutual admiration club.

  • slowmodem

Its a lie – its all accusations but nothing of substance. Obama did work with this guy on a community board and they lived in the same neighborhood. They knew of each other and moved in the same chicago political circles along with all others of the political spectrum. Nothing about that means that obama supports communism or terrorism. You are slandering a US senator for your own personal vendetta and its disgusting. You are all traitors to this country and should be ashamed.

  • spainishirish

dedicated to this nation’s destruction is not a traitor. Someone who calls that person out on it is. That’s some bizarro world you inhabit, Skippy.

  • Tim_Schieferecke

If that ain’t evidence of a cozy relationship, I don’t know what is.

  • streiff

    isn’t much of a defense.

  • streiff

starting his political career in living room of a terrorist. Other than that, you mean?

  • slowmodem

You still don’t have any evidence of exactly what that association is cinderella. The entire Illinois University has an association with him, I am sure lots of them attended meetings with him. Maybe they are all terrorist and commies too. I guess I misspoke, its not treason, its mccarthyism.

So you really think Obama, a US senator is a communist and terrorist. You are the one living in a bizarro world.

  • aaronbg

Obama has touted marxism throughout his campaign.

  • spainishirish

Those who call them out are (or were) “traitors” or “McCarthyites.” I think that summary of your position is not only accurate but perhaps the greatest condemnation of Obama himself I have seen in print.

I am sure than when reams of evidence emerges, you won’t care about it. That’s the only assumption I make, Skippy.

  • Rod_Patrick

If not, please stop putting words into Obama’s mouth. Everything you say is hypothetical and a BIG LIE.

You are lying because you are pretending to be fully knowledgeable of an inside story that you are totally ignorant of.

Finally, you are the one who is guilty of slander. Where can you find international Communists and all anti-American group who want to sell America to the enemies? DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

    By your standard Mr. Slowmodem,

DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS THE PARTY OF THE TRAITORS.

    Change your style please.

  • Rod_Patrick
  • Tim_Schieferecke

I grew up on a farm, but I quickly tired of talking to fenceposts.

  • Dem_Lurker

right next to the Michelle Obama “whitey” tapes?

  • slowmodem

“Obama has touted marxism throughout his campaign”

That is by far the most outrageous claim I have ever heard. Any evidence of this? links? anything?

  • slowmodem

Well when “Obama bites the head off a puppy on tape” or even if there are reams of evidence that emerge, I will see your point and not vote for him- until then none of you have any evidence and all of you have lots of weak accusations.

  • aaronbg

…you stumped us all…now can you go back to DKos?

  • slowmodem

“Were you there in Chicago and part of the clique of BO and Ayers in the 90s? Are you Bo? Are You Ayers?”

Cute – but by that logic neither were you or anyone else making false accusations.

“Finally, you are the one who is guilty of slander. Where can you find international Communists and all anti-American group who want to sell America to the enemies? DEMOCRATIC PARTY.”

What are you an insane person? How many democrats sold america to the enemies? Better yet how many republicans have a history of selling the enemy weapons- don’t bother answering… keep ranting in CAPSLOCKSS!!!! mission accomplished.

  • spainishirish

I never bought the tapes story, incidentally, but when I see this much litigation and obfuscation “reams” is easy to write.

  • Rod_Patrick

The issue of Ayers is different from the whitey tape. Which evidence you’re looking for? BO is Communist?

Of course, there is no evidence. He never admitted in his books that he attended some communist/socialist meetings in Chicago.

Who cares if CPUSA, Democratic Socialists of America (many are members of TUCC), Young Communists League, AFL-CIO and radical labor unions, Democrats who are advocating for World Government, Che Guevarra sympathizers, Anti-US troop CODEPINK, Moveon, Sen. Sanders, Socialist/Communists parties in Europe, Socialists in Latin America, and so on ARE SUPPORTING your Obama. You call them Guilty By Association.

Who cares if BO’s father is a hardline socialist, Odinga is a socialist, her white grandmother is a Socialist supporter. You call them Guilty by Blood Relation.

If someone forces the issue, that’s definitely McCarthyism. Right? NO EVIDENCE AT ALL.

Friends and relatives don’t define the person. It’s the person’s individuality that is important. That’s why Obama is advocating for collectivism, right?

    NO EVIDENCE AT ALL. Period.

  • Rod_Patrick

The issue of Ayers is more than the issue of Obama as a socialist. It’s about the “not so clean” activities by Ayers and Obama in dispensing funds to supposedly non-partisan NGOs and foundations, including Khalidi’s AAAN.

RS is not really the place for these issues. RS is for advancing conservative principles. Please go to other websites such as this one: www.discoverthenetworks.org

The site offers thousands of accusation againt Obama based on records. I am not saying they are true. I never made any “analytical work” to prove or disprove them. Since you support Obama, may be you can offer counter-evidence.

  • blooch

Or are there just a lot of sighing trolls out there? Seems to be a common trait…maybe it’s just waiting on that slow modem that causes your exhalations.

Anyhow, why don’t you go back to the basement and wait for us to report on the sanitized Annenberg records? You seem quite willing to deny any affinty between Ayers and Obama beyond the coincidental and occasional, and you seem perfectly willing to assume Obama was but a political naif who knew nothing of Ayers’ infamy when he kicked off his political career in Ayers’ house.

That fact alone is enough for most of us here, but if you require signed documents, letters, e-mails, wedding pictures and wall posters to convince you that Bill Ayers is, indeed, the same Bill Ayers that Obama didn’t know when he was eight years old but knew quite well when he was forty years old, then you’ll just have to stop worrying that old shoe you’ve found and wait until we can throw you a bone.

Now, go down to the basement,or go outside and stop peeing on the carpet.

    Sigh….

  • mschuyler

It’s not just his ties with Bomber Ayers. He also stood for election as a New Party candidate for the Illinois legislator and worked for Acorn. 1-2-3. Add them up. Then you have his Communist mentor in Hawaii, Jeremiah Wright’s racist diatribes, and his ties with Rezko, the slumlord. 4-5-6. Add them up. Rezko offered him a job he did not take. Ayers made him chair of the Annenberg Challenge, a completely failed project to ‘improve the schiools’ which wasted $150 million. This is far from ‘just a guy in the neighborhood’ which he claimed.

  • Rod_Patrick
    1. You admitted that your kind “sold” America. Your take of my “want to sell America” is crude enough for further discussion.

    2. It’s your kind who are insane! Look at the protesters in your Denver Convention and tell me if not many of you are insane! You resorted to name-calling when your Party is touched, just like your friends and brothers marching in Denver. Go to anger management class. Bring your friends.

    3. American weapons sold by Republicans. Wow! You really belong to the Denver group.

I was wrong. You are not worthy of my time. GO AWAY TROLL!

If you can show me where he wants the government to take over the means of production, eliminate organized religion, etc. He is not even a Socialist. He is an American Liberal which means that he is for some relatively minor redistribution of wealth and income, an increased role for the government in regulating business and most recently for increased trade protectionism. All of these are counter to my political philosophy and therefore I’m not Obama’s or the Dem party’s biggest fan. However, claiming that Obama or other Dems are Marxist is almost as bad as Liberals labeling Republicans as Fascists or equating them to Hitler. The comparison is false and therefore the argument is invalid.

  • Rod_Patrick

But can we really tell that these pictures are not indications of insanity.

Wanting America to get out of the planet.

I don’t really judge a person by his/her outward looks, but the above “looks” are fashionable statements of what democratic populace really is.

So these are but a taste of the sanity of the Democrats.

If all pictures of proofs of “sanity” in the Denver Convention are posted here… the RS will collapse.

Thus, I need to breathe fresh air … I’m signing off.

NB: All pics are NOT MINE but are borrowed from various good conservative blogs as mentioned by Blue Collar Muse.

  • Rod_Patrick

But whose Obama are you talking about? The Obam of 2010? 2009? Nov 2008? Sept 2008? Today? May 2008? 2006? 2004? 1996? Or the Obama who lived in Hyde Park? I don’t really know. Obama is the Candidate of Change!

Regarding the Dems… unless they explicitly alienate themselves from CPUSA, DSA, and so on… I will accept your argument.

  • buckeye

Dan Rather can have them re-typed and scrubbed in a font that didn’t exist in 1995? hhhmmmm….

  • buckeye

political fudraisers for the others “across the political spectrum”? Did he set them up as the point man to run things while he oversaw them, to be his right hand man? Did the others “across the political spectrum” seek the endorsement of the New Party? Is it the facts you dispute or the unique picture for Obama painted by the unique facts?

The truth hurts doesn’t it? And spare us the personal “traitor” attacks. Many of use out here have honored oaths to the Constitution our entire adult lives and would never vote for anyone that would darken Ayers’ door or sit on a Board with him period; Obama, any other Democrat, Republican or otherwise.

I’d say the same thing about any sitting U.S. Senator and have a First Amendment right to do so despite what Stalinists like yourself think. Criticizing the character of a U.S. Senator is not an act of treason even if it is not done in a coherent and intellectually consistent manner, which is not the case out here.

  • buckeye

Can you name anyone McCarthy accused of being a communist sympathizer that hasn’t turned out to have been involved with the communists politically in the 1950s? Can you give me one name? Or is that just a word you throw around like “hope” and “change”. Just curious.

  • buckeye

Looks like the Students for Peace and Justice I recall at Ohio State back in the day, a.k.a College Democrats but didn’t use that name despite all the Sherrod Browne for Sec of State signs (1988) in their office because being a political organization causes rent at the Student Union.
