Bill Clinton Speaks & Joe Biden Is Next

This is going to be fun.

The crowd goes nuts. More nuts for him than they ever did for Hillary.

Michelle looks happier tonight.

“I’m here first to support Barack Obama and second to warm up the crowd for Joe Biden . . . . I love Joe Biden.”

“In the end, my candidate didn’t win, but I’m really proud of the campaign she ran.” Heck, I wouldn’t be.

We’ll be putting the rest of this in the live blog thread.

Clinton couldn’t argue that Obama’s inexperience wasn’t true… just that it wouldn’t work, just like it didn’t work on him.

But he actually had some relevant experience as a governor.

What’s Obama got? Hillary reminds us: A speech in 2002.

He’s ready for the job? But is he ready to lead? More crickets on that question.

The Clinton speeches so far have been a lesson to pay more attention to what’s not said just as much as what is said (which in this case was contradictory to every honest comment he made about Obama off the cuff).

Meanwhile Obama’s convention has been 3 days of Clintons… with tomorrow’s analysis coverage promising more of the same.

    Political comedy gold.

Will Slick Willies speech be seen as positive for Obama?

Was his speech better or worse then Hills?

I don’t like him, but he can sure work a crowd. Best line:

“People are more inspired by the power of our example, than by the example of our power.”

I’m glad he can’t run anymore.

had to do a quick re-write after Hillary pulled the carpet out from under him. No way Bill was expecting Hillary to cave like she did.

But, once that happened – once Michelle O. had a reason to be proud of her country because Obama had finally won the nomination – all Bill could do was remind everyone he’s the only Democrat President to win re-election since FDR*.

*Truman (’48) and Johnson (’64) ran only once as the top of their tickets.

My two roommates and I watched the NC tonight. We had some good drinking games going on re: Biden’s speech and Clinton’s. I am glad that we didn’t do the Wild Turkey shots as suggested in the live chats- if so, I probably wouldn’t have any typing (or thinking) abilities at this time.

Funnily enough, one of my roommates that was watching who tends to run more blue (sigh… there’s one in every house) said that watching these speeches tonight made her less fond of the DNC and more inclined to vote McCain. I wonder if any other independents are reacting in this manner to the Convo?

Okay, I have now made my first comment. Hope I didn’t break any RedState rules by not introducing myself properly or something- and keep up the great work! You guys have pretty much become my election news source, and I’m greatful to you all for standing up and saying what you do.

That was the real message of Bill’s speech.

I agree, great speech, and if he was the candidate I’d be very worried. But in tonight’s context, it mainly served to show how good he is at the game and diminish Obama in comparison.

How many Democrats tonight were wistfully thinking how much better they would feel with Bill, rather than Obama, taking on McCain? I’ll bet a lot. (And no, Hillary is not even close to a substitute.)

The Clintons know the conventional wisdom is correct: an Obama loss in November is the best hope of Clinton the Lesser ever becoming President, but it would hurt Hillary’s chance of winning the 2012 nomination if Obama’s loss was blamed on their lack of support. So they “support” Obama in a way that diminishes him, making him their punk in the convention where he’s supposed to be in charge.

And no worries, Tim- I can’t have more than two glasses on a work night. :)
