Sarah Palin Runs A State. Barack Obama Runs His Mouth.

Maverick and Barracuda Take On The Status Quo

I cannot tell you how excited I am about the Palin pick. McCain lived up to his maverick reputation and did well.

It is time to pony up to the campaign. Sure, we’re still going to have to put up with some of McCain’s McCainisms. Let’s just get used to it. But, he’s proven he listens to us. Today he puts us on the trajectory toward victory.

Now let’s deal with some of Obama’s charges. Mr. Hope and Change, who picked a 35+ year veteran of the Senate to cover his own inexperience has the gall to attack Palin for inexperience.

Were I Palin, I’d first point out that balancing the budget of a working family with five kids gives her more experience than Obama in relating to families out there.

I’d also point out that, in addition to being elected for five years before Obama was first elected to any office, Palin has been balancing local and state government budgets while Obama was relying on Tony Rezko to balance his budget.

As for foreign policy experience, Palin’s neighborhood has Russian and Canadians. Barack Obama’s neighborhood has unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers.

I’ll take Palin’s experience. She, by the way, did not run for President on her resume. Obama did.

to the McCain campaign. I think most of you know I never thought I’d be writing that.

This is a fabulous choice. Check out volokh.com for a post on the Hillary forum comments (they love this pick!). I’m a little tweaked at the folks on our side who are disappointed or worse. I’m ecstatic!

Presidential historians will tell you that a candidate’s choice of VP tells alot about a potential presidency. The fact that Obama chose someone who could step into the presidency in case something happens to him is admirable and patriotic. The fact that McCain picked a VP that may help him win an election is shady and shows a fundamental disregard for the safety and security of the American people. Is anyone else as mad as I am?!

I felt very good about this choice. McCain will be our next President.

I am miffed at McCains choice. If he wanted to pick a woman I can think of many better suited. Lingle for one.

Linda Lingle (born Linda Cutter on June 4, 1953) has been Governor of Hawaii since December 2, 2002. She was sworn in for a second term on December 4, 2006.

Lingle holds a number of distinctions: first Republican elected governor of Hawaii since the departure of William F. Quinn in 1962, first county mayor elected governor of Hawaii, first female governor of Hawaii, first Jewish governor of Hawaii; the first twice-divorced governor of Hawaii; and the first governor not to have any children. She is also the second Jewish woman elected governor of a U.S. state. During the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City, Lingle served as chairperson of the convention during the absence of permanent chairperson Dennis Hastert from the convention floor.

Prior to her gubernatorial administration, Lingle served as Maui County mayor, councilmember, and chaired the Hawaii Republican Party. On November 20, 2006, her approval rating stood at 71% with only 24% disapproval.

10 Quick Thoughts on Tim Pawlenty as Veep Nominee

10 Quick Thoughts on Tim Pawlenty as Veep Nominee

    [...]

This pick shows that McCain doesn’t believe he needs to freaking impress anyone. He’d rather pick someone he likes personally, someone who is ethically sound, represents a blue state, and will not offend any significant niche of the base – in other words, McCain’s passing on testing the boundaries of political history.

    [...]

McCain clearly believes that Obama-Biden is self-destructing – weighted down under their own hubris and a campaign staffed by people who know how to win small-money caucuses, not big-money general elections. And he won’t interfere with that pattern by going outside of the box.

Does the Palin pick mean that McCain does indeed want to “freaking impress”, is “testing the boundaries of political history” and doesn’t “believe that Obama-Biden is self-destructing”?

  • rjd27

The McCain Camp needs to spend the money and purchase rights to that song.

Pull your head out of O’s butt man and breath. I think you’re seriously compromising your cerebral cortex by breathing all of his gas. You guys are going to get creamed, because Senator McCain knows how to pick a champ when he sees one.

  • Maggie_in_Indiana

I’ve got to tell you folks, from what I’m hearing on the radio and seeing in my email, the Down Syndrome community is psyched about Sarah Palin! If this breaks out into the larger “disabled” community, you may have another group of voters (albeit small), who will have cause to re-examine their traditional political affiliations. (My guess is that DS folks tend to lean right anyway for pro-life reasons, but the larger community probably has a lot of left-leaners.)

  • Hammer2008

…you’ve been here an hour and already you’re spinning.

If you want evidence of Obama’s self-destruction, look at the following:

    1. McCain, yesterday, releases a very polite ad congratulating Obama on his official nomination.

    2. Palin, today, speaks of both Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton in positive terms, congratulating them both on their historic achievements.

    3. Obama’s campaign, today, issues a petty screed which completely ignores Palin’s service as Governor of the largest state in the union, painting her as a small town mayor–which will no doubt not play well in 99% of the small towns in America, where people still have the right to vote, which may be news to Senator Obama.

Obama’s campaign has entered maximum-flail mode, and it’s highly entertaining to watch.

Ron Paul supporters advocated that Ron pick her as his vice presidential running mate eleven months ago, stressing her libertarian policy stances and her family values.

    http://www.dailypaul.com/node/2317

She has strong, rooted family values (she has four children and her husband is a commercial fisherman), was a two-time mayor of Wasilla, one of Alaska’s fastest-growing communities, was elected President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors, and is probably the most popular governor in the U.S., with an approval rating in the 90% range!

In addition to being the youngest Governor in the history of Alaska, she is also the first woman to hold that office.

She has publicly complained about fellow Republicans’ unethical behavior and references Alaska’s Constitution whenever she speaks. Considered a maverick in the GOP, she goes around saying things like: “Fiscally speaking, the private sector can do a better job than government can do.” and “Also just trusting individuals to make wise decisions for themselves and families. I have a lot of trust in individuals. I don’t trust government nearly as much.” She recently signed a bill making it a crime for public servants not to report bribery they know about.

  • snottykitty

I see. I was wondering if that was it. Thank You. I was speaking with someone who pointed out than Palin is young, Perhaps with vision and understanding as to where we are in a differnet light. I can appreciate this.

  • septembergurl

the VP has been outstanding, especially the last few weeks but really the whole process. It has been great to be able to come here and exchange ideas, info, opinions etc.

Palin was my first choice and I am really psyched as this is the strongest possible ticket.

And it speaks volumes about McCain as a man & politician. The choice is gutsy and visionary, the execution of the roll-out perfect. It’s a good indication of what McCain’s administration would be like and the way he would roll out policies & personnel. Also, I’m thinking no leaks to the NY Slimes.

It also shows what a good VP Obama would have been for say Biden, and what a mistake the Dems made in putting him at the top of the ticket.

Sigh. You want the ready on day 1 guy as your President, and the new exciting rookie for the VP.

Let’s see, on your experience charge:

    1. Palin has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined.

    2. She has far more accomplishments than Obama, including more accomplishments with bipartisan support.

    3. She has spent more time as Governor than Obama has in the Senate.

    4. Not even 1% of Democrats thought Biden was qualified to be President.

    5. Nowhere on Palin’s resume will you find plagiarism. You won’t find it on Biden’s either, come to think of it, because he falsifies his.

    6. Palin has done more for ethics reform, (one of Obama’s 3 listed bipartisan accomplishments, though overstated in his case), than Obama.

    7. Does it make more sense to have the more experienced candidate at the top of the ticket or bottom of the ticket?

Go ahead and keep calling the incredibly accomplished mother of 5 inexperienced and watch the results as you piss off all the working moms out there who took some time off to raise children, and all the women who will see the double standard of liberals now saying a Governor is not a valid job to hold before becoming Veep.

  • ekevlar11

And McCain captures the news cycle for the entire three day weekend!

  • paint_it_red

Good points. Obama is the far more negative candidate. His campaign puts out an attack on Palin highlighting only what she did before she was Governor, and even there skimming over her substantial ethics reform stands she made at that time.

  • snottykitty

I found this from about a month ago in ‘the wall street journal’
“Ms. Palin has shown similar boldness in going after Big Oil, whose money has long dominated the state and helped fund its Republican machine. In a snub to the oil majors, she has proposed TransCanada Corp., a Calgary energy company, be given the primary contract to lead the $30 billion job to build a natural-gas pipeline from Alaska’s North Slope.”

    Why this is cool~
out source a $ 30,000,000,000.00 pipeline project to a Canadian outfit?

    1. combined Biden and Obama have 0 experience running anything more complex than their mouths. Admittedly in Biden’s case that is complex but not as complex as running a state.

    2. When it comes to foreign policy, Obama has none and really isn’t sure how many states we have. If your point is the guy at the top of your ticket has no more experience that the number two on ours, you win.

to President of the United States! Only in America! She is a tough cookie…Wikipedia..Then-Governor Murkowski appointed Palin Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission,[10] where she served from 2003 to 2004 — until resigning in protest over what she perceived to be the “lack of ethics” of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders.

In response to high oil and gas prices, and in response to the resulting state government budget surplus, Palin proposed giving Alaskans $100-a-month energy debit cards. She also proposed providing grants to electrical utilities so that they would reduce customers’ rates.[21] She subsequently dropped the debit card proposal, and in its place she proposed to send Alaskans $1,200 directly

In the first days of her administration, Palin followed through on a campaign promise to sell the Westwind II jet purchased (on a state government credit account) by the Murkowski administration. The state placed the jet for sale on eBay three times. In August 2007, the jet was sold for $2.7 million.[31]

Shortly after becoming governor, Palin canceled an 11 miles (18 km) gravel road outside of Juneau to a mine, reversing a decision made in the closing days or hours of the Murkowski Administration.[32]

In June 2007, Palin signed into law the largest operating budget in Alaska’s history ($6.6 billion).[33] At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. The US$237 million in cuts represented over 300 local projects, and reduced the construction budget to nearly US$1.6 billion.

I am sorry but to say she has all this experience is funny. Here is food for thought since everyone is saying she has more experience than Obama and Biden combined. By that thinking she has more experience than McCain too. Because if her 2 years of experience gives her more than the Obama Biden ticket combined it also gives her 2 more years of experience over McCain.

Just as he risked his candidancy recommending the surge that is working right now, John McCain is making another risky move. He has actually picked a VP whose major qualifications seem to be that she cares about her constitutents and actually delivers results while office. That is change I can vote for. Obama did a great job of channeling Michael Douglas’ Bob Rumsford speech from the American President last night, but if we really looked at true change delivered to constituents, I’d bet Gov. Palin would come out ahead. Right now I think we need folks who can deliver more than great speeches. I’m excited about this choice and see it as another example of John McCain challenging paradigms.

Third i worked on McCain’s Primary campaign in 2000 was a donor then and i am a donor now I joined the Straight Talk Express in 2000. I am Huge Fan of a great amount of McCains stances whether you like them or not. I now its hard for some of you too understand but there are a Great many Republicans out here that our Moderate. I do not vote for any person just because of the party he or she is in, i vote my Gut and issues. If there is a Dem, Ind, Lib, Con, and etc that best fits my Issues and gut i vote for him or her. I can tell you living in Rural Missouri i have voted for a Rep, Dem, Lib and Ind alike.

Next i never said you were Hating on me, but calling someone a crapwessal, zombie, kossock, troll and telling him to go away and not come back is being a little hateful.

While he should have phrased his words better. What he Pointed out was that Palin is thin on Experience and that she is. He never said Obama had more or didn’t have any. I can tell you that the amount of experience she has will be a great concern to some Ind and it is to me too but i am already on Board and have been. But to say she has this vast amount of experience is a little weird considering we attacked Bill Clinton for having no experience when he had approx 12 years of experience as Gov and State Attorney General. Thats just the way i see it.
