Kay Hagan Embraces Leaders of “Godless America PAC”

Two minutes and thirty seconds is all it takes to see why you need to support Elizabeth Dole.

Two minutes and thirty seconds is really all it takes to watch this:

What is it?

It documents Kay Hagan’s ties to the Godless America PAC.

Godless America PAC is a legitimate organization that denies there is any such thing as God. They want to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency. They want to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance. They even, no kidding, want to get rid of Christmas as a federal holiday.

Seriously.

And one of their board members, who is also in a group for “secular Americans” invited Kay Hagan up to Massachusetts for a fundraiser.

Yes, the Godless America PAC supports Kay Hagan, ladies and gentlemen. Hagan says North Carolina needs someone in Congress advocating for North Carolinians every day of every month of every year. I suspect North Carolinians don’t know Hagan is perfectly willing to take money from people who advocate getting God off the money, out of the pledge, and ending Christmas as a federal holiday.

Here is an easy way to support Elizabeth Dole.

Two weeks ago, the Politico (I know, I know) quoted a McCain aide who said Dole was toast. That was two weeks ago and things seem to be better for Republicans. Has her standing in the polls improved? What about Republican Senate and House members in general?

Erick, if you get a chance, I would love to see another post about the trends in the race. Is the tightening continuing? What about Wright? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Erick

Dole’s people are all of a sudden feeling more confident. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Stay tuned for what I have on tap tomorrow about Kay Hagan.

  • Whacker77

Confidence is better than nothing. Any chance Rick Davis and McCain will give up on bipartisanship and mention Wright?

  • Black_Water

One of the benefits of Sarah campaigning in NC is that she should help Dole. I know a lot of people down there who have signed up to help thanks to Sarah, should help.

I’ve seen a grand total of ONE (1) Hagan sign. We in the conservative base have our reasons for not being in love with Mrs. Dole, but she was one of the leading voices against the Grahamnesty bill last year. This could explain some less-than-happy feelings from the McCain camp.

I’m doing everything I can to convince people on the fence to back Mrs. Dole, and I’m fairly confident we’ll hold the seat in the end. North Carolina may go wobbly once in a while (see Edwards, John for reference) but we’ll stay red this year.

but there’s really nothing new about Democrats taking campaign funds from unscrupulous or foreign sources.

Hagan’s record of taxing and spending, and then taxing some more, speaks volumes here in North Carolina. We have the highest personal income tax rate in the Southeast, and our punitive gas tax should make every liberal proud.

I simply don’t understand why congressional Republicans won’t:

    • Dump Freddie and Fannie’s failure where it belongs, squarely in the Democratic Party’s lap.
    • Demand a federal investigation to look into the ties between Obama, Ayers, Acorn and congressional Democrats and their involvement in the current voter fraud scheme.
    • Nationalize the election in a coordinated effort to retake the Congress.
    • Put the Democratic Party, and every single Democratic candidate across the entire country, on the defensive for two solid weeks.

I will be sick if Dole goes down when she with Sununu where the first ones to call attention to what was happening at Fannie Mac when Schummer who has spent nearly 10 mill against Dole was one to stop it

If every single noble North Carolinian sent this to ten people. this race is ove by Wednesday. Game over, fibber Kay.

The woman featured in the video as head of the Godless America PAC is Ellen Johnson. I know her because she was also President of American Atheists. She invited me to speak as part of a debate at the American Atheists convention in Minneapolis last March.

I am an atheist. Yes, conservative atheists do exist. There are actually quite a few of us hiding ?in the closet?. You don’t need to be religious to know that socialism is a really bad idea.

As the token conservative, my task was to argue that your political philosophy does not have to be determined by your position on issues of faith.

In other words, stop being liberal jerks.

I did persuade about a dozen. The rest of the thousand people in the hall were about as moderate as William Ayres and as rational as Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Advocating equal treatment for atheists is fine. We elect Christians, Jews, Mormons, even a few Muslims to Congress. It would be nice not to be disqualified from public office because of my religious beliefs, but demanding “In God We Trust” be removed from the currency and Christmas be eliminated as a holiday just reinforces the public perception that being an atheist is the same as being an arrogant liberal jerk.

So, as much as people of faith may find Godless America PAC offensive, they offend me even more. Because of people like them, I’m embarrassed to tell people I’m an atheist.

The authorities were contacted, by the way. I gave them all the information I could find.

I check the ones that give me reason to check them.

  • Moe_Lane

80% of them default to a set of tells which I have absolutely no intention of fully revealing.

  • Idioteque

… since when is being an atheist a bad thing?

We make up something like 15% of the population and it’s even higher (think 30-35%) among young people. That’s a bigger proportion than African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos, Jews, Muslims, gays, and just about any other group in America.

I don’t mean so sound like a troll but is bigotry against such a large group of people a great electoral strategy?

  • Badill_T

Since so much of the base is composed of evangelical Christians it makes sense to use atheists as the bad guy to energize GOTV.

I agree that it makes little sense, especially given the trend away from religion, but it’s the old rock and a hard place problem. The logical contortions required to support both small government and government intervention in personal morality are amusing to observe, and I can only hope that this part of the Republican party dies a quick and painless death so that it can get back to its fundamental platform of fiscal conservatism and personal responsibility.

  • tcgeol

Most of us don’t want a lot of federal laws pertaining to individual behavior. That is up to the states under the 10th Amendment. We might push for particular state laws that deal with morality, but that is the beauty of federalism. As long as proper Constitutional tenets are followed, states may run themselves as they see fit.

  • Badill_T

While I would prefer that all governments stay out of my private affairs a Federalist approach would be nice.

Republicans aren’t united in pushing for a Federalist approach, though, they pushed for a Constitutional amendment banning gay sex. They also support the War on (some) Drugs, a colossal failure. I am bothered that so many tax dollars are going towards a failed prohibition policy that increases the supply of criminal funding and does nothing to stop the root problem. I wish the SoCon branch of the party hadn’t become so ascendant in the past few decades, since they stand contrary to what I view as more important conservative values.

  • tcgeol

Homosexual marriage, yes. There is a huge difference there. I agree on the WoD. I’ve yet to see a good Constitutional provision allowing the federal government to prohibit drugs.

Abortion is the biggest issue for socons, and I can’t see a much more conservative priority than life.

  • Robin_Lionheart

I’m afraid it seems that Elizabeth Dole is no friend of conservative atheists.

They want to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency. They want to remove God from the Pledge of Allegiance.

That’s understandable. It’s an insult to every patriotic nonbeliever. “In God We Trust” on our money spits on the grave of troops like Corporal Pat Tillman, who sacrificed his life serving a country whose motto says “you’re not one of us, you’re not American”.

They even, no kidding, want to get rid of Christmas as a federal holiday.

“No kidding”? I don’t believe it. That has to be a lie.

Please, show me some evidence of GAMPAC advocating removing Christmas’s status as a federal holiday.
