EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Keep track of your enemies, McCain

UPDATE(by Dan Spencer): Liz Mair, RNC spokeswoman, further clarifies:

“RNC efforts are ongoing in these states, and Barack Obama would assume otherwise at his own peril.”

The trends are still working in McCain’s favor. As I said the other day, the polling is headed in McCain’s direction and it is starting to show up in the state level polling.

So here’s the thing: CNN breathlessly reported tonight that McCain was pulling out of several must win states. It’s an effort to disrupt the trends and momentum flowing in his direction.

It is also categorically untrue. McCain is not pulling out of the states CNN listed. Oddly enough, within a few minutes of the reporting, we had several repeat trolls show up here to rattle off the states McCain was pulling out of.

Was there some Obama dirty trick spinning involved? It’s like when the media breathlessly reported Fred Thompson was throwing in the towel the day before the Iowa caucus. That didn’t happen either, but Thompson insiders are convinced it hurt him there.

Perhaps CNN needs new sources. Or perhaps we just need to put them on the list with MSNBC and the New York Times.

In any event, Senator McCain, I hope you realize the media is not your friend and some of them are, in fact, the enemy.

But then I’ve been known to be cynical. CNN has been on my s–t list for some time now. SEN McCain is just too doggone nice for his own good.

It’s astonishing how many polls are continuing to have a relatively large difference between the weights or proportions of Democrats vs. Republicans in the samples. It’s one thing to expect more Democrats to show up at the polls, but to assume that the difference will be more than 4% seems ludicrous to me. Sen. Obama is still in a better position than Sen. McCain, but even with these strange, volatile polls McCain is hanging in there. Even if things tighten further, I’m not sure we’ll have any idea until the actual raw vote totals start coming in late on 11/4. No matter what the polls look like I’m going to be voting for Sen. McCain and all the GOP candidates down-ballot. We can’t risk letting the White House or more Congressional seats fall to the Democrats without a vigorous competition.

I just go to http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Calendar/ and check out where McCain and Palin will be. That tells me pretty much what’s hot and what’s not. This week, NH, OH, NV, PA.

and several in NM yesterday, McCain will be in CO next week. There’s no chance that McCain will pull out of CO or any state where he is about 5 down. This is a dirty trick by Obama/media.

I have to admit I agnostic on Iowa — I have had in obama column for months — but McCain has been campaigning there.

Obama’s EV strategy has always been, win the Kerry states from 2004=252 EVs, pick up Iowa & NM (Bush won by 1000 in 2004) and get another medium state, CO or VA or (in their dreams) IN. Hence McCain strategy to deny him some or all of these.

I often hear conservatives speculating about whether all of this premature talk that McCain is finished and Obama has it wrapped up is part of a plot to despirit Republicans–to the advantage, somehow, of Obama.

I don’t think so. I believe it’s just their own wishful thinking, because if it’s a “plot” then it’s a plot that’s more likely to backfire than succeed.

If people think the election is over, then turnout will go down, the traditional “Likely Voters” who habitually vote no matter what will become a higher percentage of those actually voting, and that will favor McCain.

I stopped watching CNN 5 moths back completely… Not even a few minutes… When my wife turns switches the channel to CNN I instead prefer a nap :-)

CNN was in the tank for Obama long time ago… Look at all the scums on that channel.. David Gergen, James Carville, Gloria .. , Donna Brazile …

O.K. I have been wondering about this. McCain said on April 22, that he would want to keep the Bush Tax Cuts. Obama wants to get rid of them. So by voting for McCain our taxes will stay the same. Obama by getting rid of the Bush tax cuts would increase everybodies taxes just by getting rid of them. The tax rates would go up to 15% to now what is 10%, 28% to now what is 15%, 31% to now what is 25%, 36% & 39.6% to what is now 33%. This means that your tax bracket will go up in 2 years with Obama straight across the board to everyone…. READ THIS…..McCain To Keep Bush Tax Cuts

    22 April 2008

Republican presidential candidate John McCain will fight to retain tax cuts passed under the Bush administration, seek a cut in America’s corporate tax and bring about comprehensive reform of the US tax code if elected to the White House in November, he has announced.

McCain chose to outline his economic and taxation proposals on 15th April – the tax filing deadline – to drive home his message that the US tax and budgetary system is fundamentally broken, and to emphasize his belief that taxes should be “low, simple, and fair.”

McCain’s promise to maintain income and investment taxes at their current levels represents something of an about turn for the Arizona Senator, given that he opposed the temporary tax cuts pushed through Congress in Bush’s first term. He now contends, however, that it is better to fight to keep taxes lower rather than accept Democrat plans for “a crippling tax increase” in 2011.
