Congrats Senator Cornyn, Now Be Careful Who You Pick

Dear Senator Cornyn,

Congratulations. You are now de facto NRSC Chairman. I trust you will do a competent job.

I’m very concerned though, sir. Members of the House and Senate, when they get in leadership positions, sometimes surround themselves with people who want to be there for the resume line, not the cause.

Your cause, sir, is to pick up seats in 2010. That will be a year that sees Jim DeMint, Tom Coburn, and other good conservatives on the ballot as Senate candidates.

It would concern me greatly, then, if you hired Rob Jesmer for any position at the NRSC. I realize he was on your Senate campaign in Texas, sir, but I’m troubled by him.

As you know, Congressman Scott Garrett is a die hard conservative champion in Congress. And as you know, Congressman Garrett was in the fight of his political life this year.

It was, therefore, unfortunate, that Mr. Jesmer would try to hit on or otherwise play nice with your opponent’s press secretary by bashing a conservative leader like Scott Garrett.

In fact, with a tape recorder on, Rob Jesmer called Scott Garrett a nut to Garrett’s opponent’s daughter. She served as your opponent’s press secretary.

And guess what? Your campaign manager’s statement that Garrett is a “nut” made the papers in New Jersey.

Rob Jesmer showed (A) distain for a true conservative; (B) terrible judgment; and/or (C) great immaturity in that act. I would be deeply, deeply concerned about having him in the NRSC in such a critical election cycle.

Sincerely,
Erick Erickson

    Ready, Aim, FIRE!

    What a bullying, threating post. While the point may be valid, the tone could have been a bit nicer.

    And, why even comment on the NRSC at all? It’s not like anyone here cares and supports there activities. This place always has a problem with them, so why even bother?

  • Erick

    with that whine?

  • ladymac0901

    I respectfully disagree. There is certainly a serious tone to Erick’s post, but I’m just not feeling the threat. Quite frankly, I think that it is important to let “the powers that be” know how we feel ahead of time instead of whining after the fact.

    As to why we should even bother with the NRSC? In my humble opinion, we need to clean house in every possible organization – keep out those people who will hurt the party rather than help it.

    You must live in a cave if you think this post is bullying and threatening. Heck, I thought it was pretty wishy-washy. Erick did a good job of:

    • Congratulating the Senator on his “new job”.

    • Providing a personnel recommendation to the Senator with clear reasoning and links to background.

    • Offering no threats if he was ignored other than noting his disappointment.

    As to “why” we should care about the NRSC, there is no reason why it can’t be an instrument for good and for rebuilding the party. It just needs to be under the right leadership and build and maintain a solid focus on priorities.

    I was going to post that Erick wasnt threatening enough…

    Its a contact sport buddy. Dont like it, take up ballet.

  • mbecker908

    Ballet requires, at a minimum…

    • Fantastic conditioning;

    • Great strength without appearing “muscle bound” on the part of male performers;

    • Fantastic coordination;

    • The ability to dance and to follow tightly choreographed instruction;

    • The willingness to set aside your ego because the job of the male dancer is to help make the female star look phenomenal.

    • Very long hours of practice interspersed with lots of pain.

    I would suggest this toad take up checkers.

    any of these might be this guy’s speed:

    • group hugging classes
    • cry therapy
    • advanced transference training (accusing others of what you yourself do)
    • ‘West Wing’ watching parties
    • ’24′ avoidance lessons

    Or maybe, just get him a poster of Chuck Norris, and he’ll faint.

    Your cause, sir, is to pick up seats in 2010.

    In which direction do you suppose he will try to “pick up seats”? I will never forget, not for one instant, that Sen. Cornyn voted in favor of the bailout. I am not at all convinced of political courage on his part.

    Fight on!

  • Daimyo11

    Scott Garrett is a great conservative Representative, a champion of our cause. Aim your vitriol at the opposition. Fight the Libs and Dems not each other. Say something constructive, something that will help us forge a new vision for the American people.

    We’re taking back our party and our government by storm if need be…let the rebuilding begin today, right now!

  • Whitehorse

    We will need bold color candidates, not pale pastels. It seems this Jesmer fellow is in the pale pastel category. We need candidates who will take up the fight, assume the mantle of limited government fiscally responsible conservatism to go along with strong national defense & social conservative values. This combination in a candidate will prove formidable – pale pastel candidates trying to be less left Democrats will not.

    Rob Jesmer shouldn’t go to the NRCC because the Cornyn re-elect campaign was terrible. His ads were terrible and against a real opponent Cornyn may have had to run a real campaign.
