Remember “Senator Anonymous”?

Mark Kilmer wrote about him here. Mark noted:

Unnamed Senator talks to Roger Simon of Politico.com:

“I don’t think we have learned much from the election in terms of what people want to see,” he says. “We have the same gridlock.”

By the “same gridlock,” he means that party hard-liners, both Democrats and Republicans, will remain in control of the machinery of Congress. And that means more of the same. It means more politics as usual — especially in his party.

“We need someone who speaks from the center,” he says. “Sarah Palin is not the voice of our party.”

It perhaps will surprise no one to learn that “Senator Anonymous” is none other than Senator Mel Martinez.

Roll Call reports today Senator Martinez did not even bother telling NRSC Chairman Senator John Cornyn that he was going to retire.

Good riddance.

COMMENTS

  • Tbone

He hasn’t peed a drop since he was elected.

  • dld1717

I will add that Martinez was not bad Senator and he helped give party a image of not just white men

There is nothing wrong with centrists; keep your principles but people in DC need to work together to get things done in this country.

  • Hammer2008

And let Gov. Crist appoint, um, Jeb?

  • Erick
  • towdogInCal

…he stood in for a conservative. Handy, you could simply mail him overnight to appearances.

Centrists indeed are important, and we need to actively seek them out on the other side of the isle.

  • aaronbg

I mean if you moderates spent half the time you spend defending your squish views defending the party we would still have a majority.

Instead you constantly betray those who put you in office and then cry about how hard it is to work with principled men.

    Cowards…and feckless ones at that.

And you wonder why we loathe you…get a clue.

  • kudzu630

A pol step aside for the good of party? Never… we can’t even get them to step aside for the good of the nation.

  • Rapunzel46

I just had this strong feeling Martinez was this source; IMHO don’t let the door hit him on the way out, I just wish McCain would have the good sense to retire in 2010 as well.

  • eschristian

This is from the speech that Ronald Reagan gave in 1975 at CPAC that Hannity spoke about. I think it is amazing that President Reagan is basically addressing todays problems back in that speech, I guess history really does repeat itself. You can read the whole speech at my blog:
    http://conservative-and-proud.blogspot.com/2008/11/no-pale-pastels-but-bold-olors.html

And to the person who said we need to be moderate – like Dr Phil says – hows that working out for you? It did not work out at all for the GOP. It was stupid and it is over!!! Bye bye to wish washy middle!!!

As far as color as the same person spoke of this has nothing to do with color – this guy just does not get it!!!

  • dld1717

U better watch ur tongue. Unlike u I want to win elections and not just become a party of Southern white religious boys.

I still maintain we lost this election and past because we were deemed too far to the right.

I want to work to help party it seems you want to work to alienate more voters.

    Who is loathed now

  • kyle8

    you make no sense

  • dld1717

There are more liberals and moderates then Conservatives remember that

  • Jaded

I am a conservative female and there were milliions of us who voted for McCain/Palin…where do you get off putting you own bias on this party.

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM…..your statement speaks volumes.

OBTW quite a lot of us are fighting to get Michael Steele to be RNC chair…so what say you racist? WE in this party are a party of men, women, black, whites, asians, hispanics etc. etc.

    You have BECLOWNED yourself!

  • dld1717

Yes, and Martinez was another face to this party and the only Republican Hispanic Senator.

I do not see point of knocking any elected Republican official. I follow Reagan’s rule and this is Florida just how Conservative a Senator do u think u are going to get here?

  • General_Confusion

McCain promised, PROMISED to advance the other side?s agenda (cap and trade, immigration ?reform?, put Democrats in high places in his nominally Republican administration, etc.) and LOST.

When voters are given the choice of Democrat or Democrat Lite they have always chosen the full on Democrat.

Going left fails every time it is tried by the Republicans. Look we did your way with Dole, in 06 and in 08, let?s try winning with a conservative administration, it?s worked every time its been tried.

  • dld1717

McCain ran horrible campaign, lacked any spark on trail, and never could unhooked to Bush

  • Jaded

anonymously says BS about the VP on our ticket who saved YOUR MODERATE GUYS BUTT….believe me when I say he would have been wiped out without her on the ticket….again just because he is hispanic does not necessarily make him a Conservative Senator….we DON’T play the identity politics the way YOU “moderates” and Democrats do.

We either respect you and vote for you (McCain got respect for his military background) or we send you HOME….WE do not say oh looky looky there is a hispanic guy QUICK vote for him…nor do we say looky, looky there goes a black man and say QUICK vote for him…..NO WE DON’T play those games….YOU DO!

How brave was your Mel when he was talking about a woman with great respect and dignity anonymously (behind her back)? He like the rest who belittled and talked without naming themselves are the PROBLEM with the party and GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH!

  • dld1717

    Bob Dole was Conservative

  • dld1717

Heck, I like Palin but she is not sole face of this party so how is his quote mean?

  • Jaded

We are always talking about 3.5-4 percent difference and than the rest break one way or the other however I will note that the BlueDogs are pro-life and pro second amendment or they would not be in the House or Senate….and they are mostly white religious guys from the south…..that must just be breaking your little heart.

Oh and upthread when you BECLOWNED yourself by using small I’s and U’s(for you) to show how those stupid white religious guys down south talk it denotes your lack of a solid educational core…perhaps you should go back to school! It also shows you be the racist I called you upthread as well.

  • dld1717

I am not sure if you are a real poster here or some troll but my patience has gone out the window. I would love to know where you were during the election cause you sure as hell were not on here trying to help the party.

If you want to talk education my Brown University degree that I worked hard to get is all proof I need and I am sure not going to defend myself to someone calling someone names just to make themselves feel better.

Try helping the party cause u sure were not on here for past election but now u are? Troll

This may be news to you but just because someone is pro life does not mean they are necessarily conservative. Thats why many people are fiscally or socially liberal/conservative or vice versa and call themselves moderate and hence why the party can not alienate them like you seem to be trying to do with me.

We can have a discussion like civilized adults but don’t u dare ever attack me like you did above. Its uncalled for!

  • General_Confusion

Perhaps some follow Redstaters can set me straight.

  • Jaded

I am a troll? I will no doubt just let your ignorance of me stand for your intellectual dishonesty. I have not been here during the general? I have been here for over 18 months I have 55 diaries I have been responded to 629 times on my 55 diaries….OBTW thanks Redstate for the information!

So you either were NOT here or you picked and chose certain diaries….BUT to call me a TROLL….well I would call you a TROLL when you show me your 55 diaries….WE shall see who has been here or not!

You are a bothersome little “moderate” who wants to pull the party back to the middle the same MIDDLE that just cost us an election and many seats and I am a hardcore Conservative looking to bring the party BACK to its roots of small government, less taxes, social issue’s back to the states OH and MY NUMBER ONE ISSUE…..The United States Military who NEVER cuts and runs from a fight! BUT moderates and liberals wanted to do just THAT!

I would be a neo-con and a fis-con but not a so-con BUT I believe those social issue’s need to WRENCHED from the Federal Governments deadly hands and given back to the states where I legislature’s have to live in our neighborhoods and answer to US!

So in closing you were to intellectually LAX to look up my profile and SEE how long I have been here and the type of diaries I write and the responses to the those diaries….I check you out because that is what smart people do. They look to see to whom they are responding and all I see about you is ……blather about “moderates”….for this Conservative I will NO THANK YOU TO MODERATION AND YES TO PULLING THE PARTY BACK TO THE RIGHT!

  • newagegop

I’ve always disliked my senator. I knew he was garbage when our Dem senator voted against the bailout and our Rep senator voted for it. If only Crist would go as well. Jeb Bush is the only Bush I’ve ever missed.

    Good riddence to whiny Rinos.

  • Martin Knight

A fiscal conservative/social liberal? A fiscal liberal/social conservative? A politician of no fixed principles but a wet finger high in the air? A politician who would vote for anything with “Bipartisan” stuck in front of it?

I like you, dld. But there’s no way this party would ever be a majority again if we follow your philosophy of “centrism” – whose only fixed tenet seems to be “Bipartisanship.”

Try to understand; just because a piece of legislation has “Bipartisan” support, “Bipartisan” in its name or is the product of some “Bipartisan” compromise, that doesn’t make it “good” legislation.

    “Bipartisan” != “Good”

What would you rather have? Good legislation that passed along partisan lines with the parties at each other’s throats, or bad legislation with Republicans and Democrats holding hands and singing Kumbayah?

    That’s the choice, really.

In a perfect world, good legislation would always have strong bipartisan support, with Democrats and Republicans working together to pass it. But this is not a perfect world.

When you believe this is bad legislation, with bad future consequences for the nation, you should oppose it, even if it does have bipartisan support.

The problem we have with you “moderates” and so-called “centrists” is that you consistently confuse Bipartisanship as being an aim of legislation or legislative fight, rather than a marketing strategy to get good legislation passed.

  • bs

Those who espouse catering to “moderates” generally either

    a) define it as fiscon/defcon/social liberal (what I would consider libertarian)

    or

    b) don’t have the guts to even define it because they know that they really mean a) but are afraid to piss off us socons.

I’ve yet to hear anyone claim that a moderate is anyone with social conservative beliefs. But I’m open for convincing.

  • eschristian

I am going to see if it works if I reply off of yours Jaded since I saw what you posted. I agree no to moderates our party back to the RIGHT!!!

  • JoeG

    Bob Dole was not conservative.

  • dld1717

I checked your profile out but all posts seemed like and still do sound like that of a troll.

You have a number of posts but they are all wacky topics and not one recently on any areas to help the party just areas bemoaning Conservatives. Moderates want to cute and run? Serious, check your facts.

McCain lost big time cause he lost suburbs in this country and most suburbs are filled with moderate people.

PS Try not using the caps it only makes you look dumb

  • janis

long and honorable history of posting and commenting here. Jaded has been front-paged for a couple of her diaries. I know of NO troll who has had that honor. She is a staunch conservative, a passionate supporter of our troops, and has a lot more credibility here than you do, quite frankly.

As to your advice to her that she should quit writing in her own style as it makes her look dumb, you need to quit handing out advice to people without taking a look at your own style–it’s snarky, ignorant and relatively useless. Posters like you are a dime a dozen and overvalued at that price. Go post wherever the likes of Kathleen Parker hangs out, that’s a crowd that would appreciate your “moderation.”

  • Aaron Gardner

You should probably just avoid Jaded if this is all you have to say.

  • janis

    And he deserves it.

  • Aaron Gardner

I wonder if he will cry about being beat up by a girl….;^)

  • Jaded

you get up out of your basement actually go to a Congressmen or Senator’s office or go downtown to Washington DC and roll with Rolling Thunder and support our troops by counter protesting the fluff moderates and the insane left that courts them to protest our troops….SO DON’T TELL ME NOT TO SCREAM when half of you “moderates” don’t EVEN know who is SPEAKING in your name 1/2 the time….WHY DON’T YOU get out of your basement and actullay go to a local VA Hospital and talk to the troops or join Soldiers Angels or another miiltary organization to help the TROOPS….I do see you actually posting about those items…..why don’t you get up out of the basement and actually hit your local RNC in your state and make your voice heard….I will be visiting mine in Richmond on Monday….WHY because I know who I want for RNC Chairman and am willing to go in person 2.5 hours to be heard….you see for someone like me I am unwilling to just sit and post and make a phone call…you would not understand that.

SO TROLL….DO NOT POST ON MY DIARIES AND I WILL IGNORE YOURS.

I scream with all CAPS and you use u to reference “you” and small i’s and I look dumb….take a trip over into the mirror and note the idiot standing in front of it!

  • Jaded

about those thing….funny when your brain is fired up by an idiot your typing skills drop!

  • Jaded

You guys really know how to make a girl feel great :-)

  • janis

took his lunch money and gave him an atomic wedgie. You go, girl!

And, dld1717, you got just what you were asking for. Next time, know your enemy before you shoot off your mouth.

  • Jaded

I really do not have time for the idiots WE have much work to do and I have my husband making a visit next week while he is Washington the NRSC for the crap their little peewee of a friend attempted to do to Erick….THOSE are the important issues confronting US……it is time to purge every little nook and cranny of these VIPERS that infest our nest!

  • RedWhite_and_Truth

… will let them defend themselves, their loved ones and their property with the gun of their choice,

will be able to say “grace” (if they want to; if they are not a religious southern white boy, they don’t have to) at a public diner before a meal,

will encourage them to make as much money for themselves as they can, to taste all the freedom this great land has to offer, WITHOUT REGARD to their skin color, religion (Unlike the ComLibs, who hypocritically obsess about such matters). . .

In what capacity do you want to help voters?
