EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Answers Still Wanted

A few weeks ago, the Directors of this site published this post seeking answers to ten questions from the candidates for RNC Chairman.

We are still waiting.

Here is my compromise plan. I’ve heard from a few of you that you are bogged down in Morton Blackwell’s questionnaire. I’ve seen it. I’m sympathetic. Send us a copy of your answers to him and we will be placated.

But pick one or the other or both.

who they are seeking to lead? Especially when it comes from the most read Conservative blog on Capital Hill?

No big surprise there…but it doesn’t bode well for the change we need going forward does it?

  • Aaron Gardner

    Are you on twitter.com yet?

  • itdiehard

If the story does not come to you, don’t go out and get the story. Maybe someone Red State can ask the question to the candidates and record there answers. This is only way I see Red State getting an answer to the questions.

Which just proves we need to buckle down and get involved in the party apparatus.

  • Aaron Gardner

I believe all of them are on twitter, with that in mind imagine if all of us here at redstate and elsewhere decided to get on twitter and follow these guys and send a direct msg to each via the twitter service to answer that questions presented by redstate. They will either be forced to answer or forced to show they are unfit to lead the grassroots because they refuse to even engage them in coversation.

    So what do you think?

  • Diogenes314

I just sent him this link. He’s the only one I’ve found so far.

Thanks for the links. I’m following both now, can’t send direct messages unless they add me on their list though. I joined it because 2 0f my 3 RNC reps are on it.

    hard to learn lew tricks…

I’ll get it done…and let ya know when I’m up…I don’t even know what twitter is or what it does?

  • AceInTX

I put that boat in the water last week and you shot a hole in it….

    Well…sort of

    @Aaron_Gardner

Also you should go to TCOT and check out the list

I definitely suggest using a third party app like tweetdeck in order to keep it manageable. I use it and I make custom groups for the tweeters that I know from RS and TMR.

Also you should go to Top Conservatives On twitter…it is a list of conservative activists that are on twitter for you to follow.

There’s a difference between our approaches, Ace. You’re ready for war with the existing party establishment. I’m not. :-)

To borrow from Pat Buchanan, I’m not interested in a battle for the soul of the Republican party. I just want to have my say as a part of the team.

  • http://brockwayfamily.spaces.live.com/ Erick Brockway

He doesn’t seem to follow or respond. Maybe afraid answers he gives will haunt him, I don’t know. He just seems to toss random stuff out, like someone is reminding him to say something…anything.

  • Diogenes314

…is how I heard about it. The guys who set up the site were interviewed on Hugh Hewitt last week. It sounded kinda weird, but when they said they were going to try to get all 168 RNC members on it I decided to check it out.

For those who were concerned about this, he left the group last spring.

Steele withdrew as an active member of the leadership council last spring. He no longer sits on its national board and as a result, Steele told editors and reporters of the Washington Times last month, he should not be listed on their Web site.

“I left, honestly, because I have a fundamental issue with organizations getting involved in primaries, and the organization was endorsing candidates in primaries, which I am fundamentally opposed to,” Steele told the paper on Nov. 18.

A statement last summer by Whitman about Steele’s decision to leave her group didn’t mention any disagreement over political tactics.

She said Steele was “taking a step back from some of his previous commitments, including the RLC, to focus fully on GOPAC, which he chairs.” GOPAC, an organization Steele has headed for two years, recruits Republicans for state and local offices.

“The RLC is pleased to partner with GOPAC for a number of events and looks forward to continuing to work with Steele and his staff on future endeavors. I am personally very grateful for his efforts in helping to get the RLC to where we are today,” Whitman said in her June 23 statement on the group’s Web site. A spokeswoman said Whitman was unavailable yesterday.

Steele is reaching out to religious and social conservatives in his campaign and denies that they have too much influence in the party. He has said he would keep a constitutional ban on abortion in the Republican platform.

    But some conservatives aren’t convinced.

Erick Erickson, who edits the influential conservative blog RedState.com, wrote that “the RLC alone makes me deeply leery of Michael Steele as RNC Chairman. These groups want to purge the GOP of social conservatives.” He is opposing Steele’s candidacy but says he might be persuaded to change his mind.

Also Hugh hewitt interview transcripts with Michael Steele and Saul Anzuis for anyone interested.

    He spoke to CBN…

So the fact that he’s trying to expand the party makes him a pariah?

Some people need to get a grip.

  • Jaded

returning the social issues back to the states for decision taking the power back from the Supremes….I wish he had not thrown out the “black” canard….not very helpful at all! and not very subtle. I would suggest that is a bigger issue because WE did not put up with that crap from Obama and called him out on it and NO ONE IN ANY PARTY ought to be using RACE or sex to win anything!

Nobody is making him a pariah for trying to expand the Party.

He has a history of running away from the Pro Life issue in his run for Senate and the RLC has a goal of freezing out SoCons and minimizing the pro life issue and supporting gay marriage etc…

This is what burns my ass and I’m getting increasingly sick of it…You don’t see SoCons working endlessly to push FisCon issues out of the party or to de-emphasize tax cuts for the wealthy. You don’t see anyone fighting to force National Security Conservatives to minimize their issues…but it’s perfectly fine to openly discuss what pariahs SoCons are and how we cost the Party votes…It’s perfectly acceptable to openly discuss what intolerant bigots we all are.

You don’t see us forming groups with the stated goal of forcing FisCons and DefCons into the shadows…but they’re everywhere in the pasrty when it comes to pro abortion, pro gay rights groups hell bent on attacking SoCons at every turn…

and Steele allied himself to one of the chief anti SoCon leaders in the Party when he hitched his wagon to Whitman…So excuse me if I don’t get all week in the knees and go all gaga for Steele…

and as for expanding the Party…howed that work out the last two election cycles?

  • Aaron Gardner

Jaded is one of the sole people on RedState who has been pushing for Steele to become RNC Chair…she has spoke out early and often in support of Steele. Jaded was, I believe, using that video clip as a means of support for Steele. And you chose to be condescending to her. Dude, you are in serious need of some people skills.

Now I am on the fence with Steele right now. That video made some good points. What I gleaned from it is that Steele was the token conservative on a moderate organizations board, trying to effect change from within.

ACE PAY ATTENTION REAL QUICK TO ME
I know what you are saying and yes you are correct on the RLC and RMSP in general, but I think Steele may be exactly what he says he is. Steele is the type of guy that believe in working within the system that exist to effect change. He goes into “enemy territory” with the intent to engage, rather than with the intent to bend to their moderate views. I believe Steele is attempting to expand on Thatcher’s famous quote:

First you win the argument, Then you win the fight

Steele’s mindset seems to be first you argue, then you win the argument, then you win the fight. We will not win the abortion debate by doing the same thing that Al Gore did vis a vis the AGW “debate”. We can’t just say what we believe is the truth and it must be followed, even though it is true and should be followed….we just don’t have the bullhorn that the left has (thanks for nuthin MSM!!!)

Any how this is what I see going on. Steele may be the man we need, maybe not, I will wait and see if he answers the questions directly to Erick and make my judgment. Until then I will continue to try and convince the opposition of the rightness of my positions any way that is effective.

  • Aaron Gardner

ok not this but what I wrote above it…;^)

  • Mike gamecock DeVine

I wanted him to be the VP nominee (or Watts) but was also thrilled with Palin. I agree with Jaded and you.

  • Aaron Gardner

I just got a tweet from Saul minutes ago replying to my call on twitter for the candidates to respond to Erick’s blog. He stated:

Red State questionaire…mine is on it’s way

Grassroots in action…via Twitter…you gotta love it.

  • Diogenes314

Appearantly communication skills would be a better start. I addressed my comments in a response to Jadad because that’s who supplied the link. When I said ‘some people’, I meant Some People-Namely those who start going all Oliver Stone whenever his name comes up. No, there is no grand conspiracy to foist a Manchurian RNC head on us to roll back the social conservative angenda. No, he’s not some ‘modterate pro-abortion’ trojan horse carrying out Whitman’s evil deeds. As far as I can tell, NOBODY is carrying out her evil deeds.

Aside from some irrelevent talking heads ( and some overly sensetive socons) who actually listens to CTW?

If you have some personal dislike for Steele, fine. Just don’t pretend it based on a rational and informed assesment of his statements and positions.

  • jeffreywturner

If someone truely is a racist or has a racist past (ie: Robert Byrd), I think it is perfectly legitimate to use that against them. The media agrees, unless of course the racist is a Democrat, in which case it should be off limits.

  • Jaded

I believe that is also why he left as he has stated because they were involving themselves in primaries……I will STATE again that the RACE ISSUE is a non issue in this party Mr. Steele and I would encourage you not to bring it back up again….that kind of reverse racism did not work against the conservative base for Obama and it is not a necessity nor is it desirous to be RNC Chair.

I do not support Steele for his color I support him because he is conservative and he is exciting and he in unafraid to say exactly what he means and makes no apologies for it. This is what we need to run this party!

we want the same things…i.e. getting Conservatives in leadership and I’m for whatever accomplishes that goal…

I guess I’m just a little less genteel about it
