How many more breathe free because of one man?

Kosovo has named a street after President Bush.

Kosovo decided Wednesday to name a central street of its capital Pristina after outgoing US President George W. Bush for his support of the territory’s split from Serbia.

Backed unanimously by Kosovo’s cabinet, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said the move was “a sign of the huge state and national respect and appreciation” for the United States’ contribution to independence, declared earlier this year.

Both Republicans and Democrats in this country have grown weary of the President in recent years. Some have grown weary because of the war. Others, like me, because of his domestic policy. Instead of putting conservatism into compassion, Bush tried to put compassion into conservatism, but his compassion meant big government — a notion not compatible with the freedom of men.

And that will be the irony of the Bush legacy. Abroad, George W. Bush has been the great liberator. He has freed millions of people from ruthless dictators and radical Islamists. At home, he has kept us safe. But he has presided over a government that has encroached on American freedoms and eroded the free market he pledged to support.

The advance of liberty across the globe owes its progress largely to President Bush and his relentless assault against evil and terror. At home? A mixed bag. But one thing is indisputable.

George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, kept us safe. I can forgive much for that.

If only the thickheaded group of bitter individuals could let this sink in…

Bush is getting a street, but Clinton is getting a statue.

bhc1....that seems appropriate...

I'll tell you one thing...

There are two things I don’t blame the President for:

1) The tanking of the economy
2) The mores of society

You can’t legislate culture and you also can’t tell people in a feeding frenzy that maybe, just maybe they’re overinflating the value of their own homes, taking out heedless loans on the equity, and then loaning more wasted money to people who will never pay it back, while repackaging that debt as AAA bond-level investment to all of the rest of the world.

When the country gets into a cultural binge, like it did with housing and mortgages, there’s not much the President can do. He could have rolled in the tanks to stop people from selling their condos in Chicago, I suppose, but that’s about it.

As far as society’s mores are concerned, I also don’t place any of the blame on him. What’s he supposed to do? Culture is something that comes from the people, not the government. He came into office saying that he didn’t want to “kick the gays” and that would have been a big mistake. He also wasn’t by termperament or credentials a member of the pro-life Conservative movement. He acted as precisely who he was, it’s other people who misread that.

George W Bush has done more than any president to advance freedom abroad. Iraq is more democratic than most European countries, really. Clinton did absolutely nothing for countries like Iraq or Kosovo. The liberals say they want to export American democracy, but secretly don’t want to because they hate our Constitution, and wish we would adopt a Soviet-style government.

But you are wrong about his policies at home. The only people he took away freedoms from are groups that support terrorists, such as Muslim political organizations and liberals that supply them with lawyers. Know that O is in the White House, I’m not sure I want the patriot act around anymore, since he’ll probably use it against Christians and other conservative groups. But when W. was around, I didn’t care if people listened to my phone calls because I’m not a terrorist, and I have nothing to hide.
And I don’t see how he eroded the free market either. Corporations are good for America, largely, though people don’t want to hear it, and they sometimes government help to stay afloat.

Uh… that comment has so much fail in it, it’s hard to know where to start… but I’ll say that this is exactly the reason why some of us opposed the bill in the first place.

On the corporations deal, you’re somewhat right about that corporations get a bad rap, but Bush has most definitely eroded the free-market by taking money from successful corporations and individuals, and giving it to failing industries and companies that made poor financial decisions. That’s what the whole “bailout” thing was about, remember?

Years from now, when 43's legacy has withstood the test of time...

…alll those half-men and half-women in our MSM and chattering classes who spent the past few years criticizing him will pretend that, oh no, they never had anything cross to say about 43 at all.

I think it’s a testament to the quality of Bush’s leadership on the world stage, that he’s thought highly of in India and Kosovo and Poland—all places that have been imperiled by terrorism and totalitarianism.

Meanwhile, places like Paris and London and Davos revel in spitting on 43. Notice that those are all places that have been able to revel in safety and security the fast few years, because bold adults (like George W.Bush) have been willing to do violence on their behalf.
