Morton Blackwell sent a very lengthy questionnaire to the candidates for RNC Chairman. He has gotten back his responses. Matt Lewis posted them in full at Townhall.com. In reviewing them, I have to say I am very impressed by Ken Blackwell’s responses.
That said, I continue to touch base around the country with RNC folks and continue getting the impression that Mike Duncan is probably the front runner in the race.
In addition to Morton’s questionnaire, we have ten issues we’d like answers to.
Saul Anuzis has already provided his responses. We continue waiting on the others.
I do hope the RNC voters understand the consequences of re-electing Duncan. -nt-

The only problem with Blackwell is that he is not a very inspiring campaigner. For that reason, I would give the edge to Michael Steele, who I think is an outstanding campaigner and political organizer, for RNC Chairman.
But Ken Blackwell would get my nod for President.

In his answers he tip-toes around what caused the losses in ‘06 (when he was not yet chair) & ‘08 (when he was) but does not strongly say what went wrong & what to do to fix it. One does not lose because one is better or has a better strategy/plan, one loses because of lack of skill, poor strategy or planning (or a combo).
I would like it if the top 2 had a runoff. I’d like to see some of the new blood coalesce around someone other than Duncan to keep from splitting the “new blood conservative” vote.

Steele, Anuzis, Blackwell, Saltsman, & even Duncan were all solid. I still lean toward Anuzis, though Steele, Blackwell, or Saltsman would likely do well. I’d love to get some evidence from Ducan that he was a voice crying in the wilderness against the profligate spending and growth of government, but he nor anyone else has come forth with it…

AncientTom Thursday, December 25th at 2:28PM EST (link)I first met Ken in the late 80’s when as a Cincinnati councilman he was fighting the local (Hamilton County) machine to make principle matter - not just money (which to a machine means electability). He took political risks to help the local pro-life folks try to get the machine to adhere to the Republican platform.
Anyway, he is a first class guy and in whatever office he is in, I am quite certain you will hear the words “What is the right thing to do?” used a lot. Very smart guy and his own man.
His run for governor here was doomed only because of the incalculable damage done by the Ohio machine’s pick for the preceding governor - Bob Taft. Their rationale “Hey, he’s a Taft, right? That means he can get elected and deserves it.” brought the party to ruins in Ohio.
