BREAKING: National Rifle Association Wusses Out On Holder

They will complain about Holder, but they will neither score a vote nor actively work to oppose him.

The NRA Grassroots Hotline is 1-800-392-8683. Remember, if they tell you they are opposed to Holder, ask if they are going to score a vote and testify. The answer is “no.” They’re just going to send a letter.

Sources inside the National Rifle Association tell me the NRA has succumbed to pressure from Democrats to not actively oppose Eric Holder.

Holder has strident, well known anti-second amendment positions. Nonetheless, because the NRA likes to play nice with Democrats, they are going to roll over for Barack Obama on the Holder nomination instead of fighting for, well, the second amendment — their reason for being.

Harry Reid and Pat Leahy both [Ed's Note: I got careless here: I'm told it has to do with Reid's rating. Leahy couldn't care, but was able to exert pressure via Democrat members of the NRA board] have good NRA ratings on the second amendment. They will support Eric Holder. The NRA does not want to hurt their scores. Therefore they’ll make noises in opposition to Holder, but they will not score a vote for Holder to impact legislators’ rankings.

Pitiful sellouts.

Meanwhile, Gun Owners of America will actively oppose Holder and score votes relating to him.

[UPDATED:] I’ve now received additional confirmation from the Senate. The NRA will not actively oppose Holder. The NRA will send out a letter in opposition to Holder, but will neither testify against Holder nor score legislators based on their votes for or against Holder.

I gotta see THIS to believe it! Can this be possible?

  • StuckinBlueJersey

They will be hearing from me in two minutes when im done work. I’m not happy about this at all.

  • Tanggor

them some more of my money.

Which they will likely use to deluge me in mailings asking for my (rhetorical) opinion on gun control (like they don’t know already) whilst asking for still more of my money.

Where’s the fight? Did it die with CH? (God rest his soul)

Had two NRA employees tell me this and have just had it confirmed from Senate sources. The NRA will not testify against Holder nor score a vote for him.

for the NRA to become irrelevant.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.

I find them to be really, really good when it comes to 2nd Amendment issues. Like, not only good but totally humorless about it.

When I make bets online (“I bet you that such and such will happen!”), the terms of the bet tends to be that, if I win, the other guy donates $20 to the JPFO.

I find that they’re much less into the whole “reasonable people can disagree” thing when it comes to the right to defend one’s self and one’s The Children.

    NRA Member ?

    Me too.

    Kind of “miffed” at this?

    Me too.

Whatcha gonna do about it ?

I’m gonna send a very polite but extremely forceful letter to the directors asking if they have lost their collective minds and are looking to have The NRA disbanded due to quite probably everyone canceling their membership.

I’m joining Gun Owners Of America tonight.

God help us, because without The NRA at least trying, we’re gonna have much bigger problems than we thought.

Their office is already closed for the day. Their direct number is 1-800-392-8683.

This is very disappointing. I hope Wayne LaPierre has a good explanation for it. He’d better, because he’s going to be hearing an earful.

What in the hell is happening to our GREAT country when even the NRA won’t fight….man this SUCKS!

  • Cheetah772

Isn’t it great when we have a cool president in Barack Obama? Look on the bright side, at least this way, maybe Obama will stop referring to gun owners as “hunting sportsmen”. That really irritated me a lot. I don’t own a single handgun, but I would never dream of taking away God-given right to own a single gun for self-defense, hunting, or recreational purposes. Never. That’s just so…un-American!

  • scottj

    and I hadn’t gotten around to re-upping.

Guess GOA will get that money now.

  • Jaded

being Canonized being The Messiah and all…..this is a sick, sick world.

  • IL_Glock21

I can’t remember what the track record of the NRA was for Clinton’s appointments for AG.

The only thing I can think of to justify their current actions is assuming that any appointment made will be problematic and they’re merely picking their battles.

Just a hunch from an NRA Life Member

    Organizations.
But I always believed that the mental image of Charleston Heston, holding that long rifle in the air and clearly articulating what I believed….well that’s what I thought the NRA was.
    Apparently not.
Sure hope that the GOA will be that which I and the Nation need, and never trades core values for political expediency.
They get my $$ for the continuing 2nd Amendment fight. A fight we should never, as Americans, even have had to get involved in, and absolutely cannot afford to lose.

  • johnCV

    They are done.

I reluctantly renewed my NRA memebership earlier this year – never again. I just have joined GOA because they have proven to be the real 2A advocates (along with JFPO).
Nra has become just another flaccid, inside-the-beltway, self serving, coctail party going fraternity.

I am calling again 1st thing tomorrow (8:30) to withdraw my membership (they were closed tonight – 5 pm ya’ know…).

    pffffttt

  • USNJIMRET

Do I misunderstand the “scoring” thing?
Isn’t it something on the order of how Conservative Organizations “rank” votes?
If so, and some Democrat Senator, or Representative, wishes to be on the positive side of the NRA ‘score’, isn’t that a more powerful influence then caving and not scoring at all?
Or is this whole thing just more of the corruption that seems to afflict everyone and everything in D C?

  • Kenny Solomon

GOA was a given as I was going to join on “coronation day” anyway as one of the ways to remember the day freedom died in the USA.

But The JFPO ? I should wear a sign…….Somebody kick me hard.

HOW COME I NEVER HEARD OF THAT PLACE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

That’s a real wake-up call for me seeing that website….. Turns out I’m not the only Jewish civillian in the country with a big ol bang-stick and other toys that go boom.

    ;)

Wondered why they late and reluctantly endorsed McCain. Would they not have had more credibility if they didn’t endorse at all. I would like to think they endorsed McCain only because of all the fears they had with Obama and the majority anti-gun Liberals in Congress. Seems that breaking their own rules for qualification for endorsement, was their move to the center, and then some

Do we have any organizations that used to be reliably Republican left?

  • BlueLandRed

so cynical but I think the NRA would love to have a pro gun-control AG. Heck, I bet they’re hoping that Obama and the Congressional Dems push for whole bunch of new gun control legislation. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the NRA leadership was secretly happy to have a bunch of new gun control legislation pass – because it would certainly increase their membership numbers. Personally, I think most political action committees are run be people that don’t want to win, because then what do they do. They just want to keep the fight going on for a long as possible.

This is the same slander that says the Republican party really wants to keep abortion legal everywhere in order to keep the party locked in as-is.

It’s faulty thinking because it assumes the battle ends when we win. That’s not true at all. Just ask NARAL.

  • NedReck

There was a reason. However… I wished they would have shared it with you. I wished I could….

Cam Edwards hosts a live radio show on Sirius Patriot Channel 145 and http://www.nranews.com Monday through Friday, 9pm to Midnight Eastern Time. The NRA News site also streams in-studio video of the show.

I have a feeling Cam may have a few questions asked of him regarding “this little problem”.

You can ask Cam questions via I/M or e-mail.

  • Lammo

OPPOSE ERIC HOLDER PUBLICLY AND VIGOROUSLY or you can likely kiss a whole lot of us good bye. If everything that can be done to stop Holder from becoming Attorney General is not done there will be absolutely no point in contributing to NRA or NRA-ILA. And, I shouldn’t even have to explain why.

  • Whitehorse

whatever, however I’m not happy with this. I remember reading in an NRA publication about Holder & am perplexed that they are not fighting his nomination other than in a letter. I am a life member & they will hear from me regarding this.
