EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Thank You!

The House GOP held the line. They voted unanimously to oppose the Obama Stimulus Plan. The Democrats will now own this failure.

Earlier today I said we must make our side feel pain when they displease us. But we should be prepared to say thanks too.

I’m giving a $22.00 donation to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the group that elects House Republicans.

We may not agree with them every time. But it is quite important that we say thanks to them when they hold the line on the advance of socialism.

I have been on the tightest budget I have ever lived on in my life because I know who is President and in charge of Congress. I know what is coming and I am so proud for the first time in a long time of the GOP (with the exception of when Palin was chosen as VP – I was happy and proud then too ; ) )

I think I will break my current spending rules and send a little something to them as a symbol of my appreciation too. Also, I won’t be able to send much to either but I want to send something to Heritage Foundation too because they have gotten some great info. out there (as well as Redstate.com) ; )

THANK YOU!!! Seriously – thank you for standing strong and letting Obama/Pelosi/Reid and the other liberals/socialists own this!!!

By the way didn’t out “conservative” democrat Congressman vote FOR THIS??? I am just getting home from work but I heard on the radio that all GOP voted against this and in Georgia ALL DEMOCRATS voted for this – that would include Jim Marshall who claims to be conservative!!!

A good reminder that we should always say thank you in some way to those in our employ who at times go above and beyond our expectations.

    Cheers !

  • Vegas_Rick

when I get home tonight. I’ve had an e-mail requesting a donation that I’ve been holding until this vote. Now, I can respond! Yeah!

  • bobinsc

Where were the “profiles in courage” last fall? Last September, before the original bailout bill, I called my GOP Congressman’s office and begged him to vote NO and, surprise, he did! I then did the right thing and called him the next day to thank him profusely. A few days later, when they took the re-vote (after adding some more pork) he switched his vote and voted YES. I then called his office and said I would never vote for him again.

  • St_Louis_Conservative

…this was the EASY vote. The question is, will they hang tough and still oppose it after it goes through the senate and some compromises are made?

  • http://www.leadingstrategies.net Mike Friesen

Thank you to the GOP for growing a spine. I donated some $$ as well.

  • NeoKong

It must have been down in the basement in the box labeled Christmas tree ornaments.

To show my thanks for the no votes! Doing the right thing deserves it reward. I will express my thanks to those that did the right thing.

Oh and to my congressman Chris “fake Blue Dog” Carney? Not that I voted for you either time you’ve run, but believe me the people of the district won’t forget your “yea” vote on this one. I won’t let them.

  • Bourbeau

They took a stand; they sent a message; they’ll be ridiculed mightily by the MSM for sure, but for this night, this vote, the House GOP stood shoulder to shoulder and said no. For that, the House Leadership and their members, deserve our thanks and a hearty Job Well Done!

  • jdkern

The GOP voted unanimously against Clintons plan – which led to surpluses and the “remote” idea of no deficits.

Because they also recuit liberal & moderate Republicans who vote more often with the Democraps than they uphold any conservative principle. Reward True Conservatives by DONATING TO HOUSE CONSERVATIVE FUND. This is the group of Pence, Flake, Hensarling, Cantor and other true conservatives.

Kudos and my apologies to Boehner. He has received rough treatment lately, but perhaps the message is now clear.

The next hill to climb is Mitch McConnell, who really needs to retire- and I have no doubt will show us why very soon.

We are done accepting excuses as a tactic for stringing us along. No compromise is acceptable unless all the global warming, social entitlements, gifts for the Smithsonian and every other piece of Democrat pork is stripped from this bill.

There will be no excuses and demurrals accepted in the name of expediency.

About time the republicans in congress stood up to the Marxist spending bill! Too bad McConnell won’t be able to keep his flock in line. We need to let them own it, Repubs should have nothing to do with it!

Also, did you see the gigantic smile on Pelosi’s face when she announced the vote. I thought this was an urgent necessity, not something you should be proud about!

  • The Server X-Angel

Will McCain hold firm? Who else we need to worry about?

so we had this so called notion of surpluses because of Bill Clinton, correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the Congress have control of the appropriations. Let me see here, Republican Congress, hmmm? Lastly, show me where the Federal Government or more specifically where the Executive Branch departments are allowed to save money. I think there is also something else called neutral debt expenditures in the spending bills. Again correct me if I am wrong here jdkern.

Now to stay on subject, Thankyou GOP House members for choosing the win-win-win-win solution.

And the NRCC got $22.00 off me after I read this blog. I’m reallly proud to be Republiican tonight. This was needed and the right thing to do.

  • OccamsRazor

This may be a done deal, but we ought to let our guys and gals know that we’re appreciative.

They get a scratch and sniff sticker.

  • calcons

I will also be respnding to the request from the RNC with a check for $188.00. One dollar for every vote against insane spending. Keep it up ladies and gentlemen 2010 is not that far off.

  • Praying

but I was very excited when I heard how our peeps did on the vote! I immediately emailed my congressman to say THANK YOU! My husband was upstairs in his office listening to the news, and I was downstairs fixing dinner, and we both shouted out “YES!” when we heard the results of the vote. Of course the bill still passed, but it’s not stained by the GOP at least thus far. Here is some “wishing” that there will be a continuing “transformation” within the GOP. (I just couldn’t use those overused, tired, empty terms “hope” and “change”)

  • Mark Malcolm

and will also be sending my $22 in this Friday (payday) when I can fit it into the budget.

For anyone who reads this chain on The Hill, let it be known, we’ll reward you for holding true to conservative principals!

Is always closer to the heartbeat of the people. Celebrate today, but let’s reform ranks and ready for next week.

That’ll be the best we can do for a while.  The Socialist-Dems can always rely upon the “Republicans in name only” within the Senate and what few of them will show up every now and again in the House, but if the majority of pro-American Republicans (and what few Democrats may decide to toss the party line) continue to stand against this, it might bode well for their future as representatives of those amongst the people who still bear some personal responsibility in their lives and resist the urge to join the herd of “housepets” rushing to the Socialist corral.

My dad pointed out that we may expect a lot of the items taken out of this bill in an attempt to get Republican support in the House remains in the Senate version of the bill and that they will be put back into the combined bill put together by the joint Congressional committee.  If the Republicans have the stomache to be called the “Party of No” for the next two to four years, they’ll have my vote if they continue to go against the Socialist majority now running DC.  Should this bill only serve to deepen the recession and make it impossible for businesses to work as they could to revive the economy, at least I won’t be pointing any fingers at the Republican Party when it fails.  I’m prepared to play the role of passive resistance, that of a refusenik in Soviet America…

  • spreadthered

I’m with eschristian, aside from Palin, this really made me proud to be a republican! I was so happy to see not 1 republican voted for it! It showed leadership and respect for the American people.

I will be happy donate too!

Anyone wonder what Obama means by having a more transparent government? I’m not sure he knows what that means. Every time I heard the white house press dimwit speak all he could talk about in defending this bill is “building roads, bridges and power grinds” I haven’t heard him mention that ONLY $30 billion of the nearly trillion dollars is going into roads and infrastructure. Why doesn’t he mention the truth?

  • Vegas_Rick

I think the current figure is slightly north of $900 billion and climbing. That may be an even easier vote. Besides, I really fail to see any down side to voting against this crap. IT WILL NOT WORK.

I think, if our Congress critters play their cards right, 2012 could be a huge reversal in both houses of Congress and the White House. But, I doubt they can hang tough long enough to be proven right about this “stimulus package.”

    Good Job guys.

BTW Boehner was on Beck and said something to the effect of “You just watch”…say to Beck that the House R’s where not going to budge on this one. Good leadership Boehner!! He went to the people and told them what they would do and then did it.

The only reason we had surpluses (unfortunately) was that Republicans cut spending.

Your statement simply has no basis in fact.

Be aware that we do enjoy “Happy Bunny!”‘s occasional appearance.

Thank you very, very much House Republicans and the 12 Blue Dog Dems!

Keep this up and we just might have a shot in 2010 and 2012.

  • Franz Prince of Dogness

But it wasn’t me. If I’d been involved the vote would have been 188 to 0 and the bill would have failed. I’d have killed and eaten the YEA votes. And I’d need some Pepto.

    Is an obvious failure.

Let us bow our heads for the Democratic Party.

they will be called “The Party of Know” instead of the party of no.

  • Jaded

I feel dirty about it :-) I do thank them for standing firm today BUT the reality is they should have done so in September when it mattered. It really is much to easy when you have NO POWER to stick to your value’s and yes I am still JADED!

  • $peciallist

And we don’t want no ‘prevent defense’…

  • drohan00

they actually did what I wanted them to do. I will send them some cash as well. But we need to keep up the pressure, especially on our foolish Senators. Snowe was the only Republican to vote for the bill in committee, and I think Specter has stated his anger at the process, so I think they will only get a few Republican votes.

I don’t think we’ll have McCain to worry about, I mean this bill is diametrically opposed to everything he has stood for in the previous 25+ years in the congress.

The Democrats now own the economy… Now we need to take it to them for two more years!

the dems don’t need gop members to pass this. they just want to be able too point a finger at them when it blows up on them, which it will. i am predicting at this point that they will shoot it down just to play nice later. the first half of the tarp plan was an example of this. the gop is leaveing me with the impression that anyone can be bought with the right amount of pork. GOP LEADERS PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG.

  • JadedByPolitics

I found an alternative to the stimulus bill put out by Rep. Tom Price. It didn’t have any spending but lots of tax cuts. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen it. If so do you think it has a chance of working and working quickly? If it does I wonder why we haven’t heard anything about it since it was submitted on January 14th

The GOP hanging this around Obama’s neck is a good first step but only if the American People think the Bill is bad. As long as the MSM spins this Bill as GOOD the GOP looks bad. We need our conservative Blogs to post item by item the ridiculous spending items in this Bill. We should all know them as well as Dems knew ” Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich”.

  • CarlSchurz

But I’ve seen FNC revealing how pork laden it is and many Economists have said it is a Stimulate nothing bill.

This Stimulus Bill is one part PR Stunt and other half vote buying Ponzi scheme.

  • Jack_Savage

I want to go on the record saying that I did not feel that there was a chance that Republicans in the House would show the courage that they did in opposing this bill. They absolutely proved me wrong, I am grateful for their votes against the bill, and it gives me hope that they haven’t taken complete leave of their senses and that they are not so smitten with the ObamaLove that principles have gone out the door.

  • Martin Knight

But seriously, Boehner, Cantor, Pence, Hensarling, et al should take a bow. Discipline like this builds even more discipline and it soon becomes strength which then leads to victory at the polls.

Thank goodness Shays and his type are no longer around.

  • jpd1

In all fairness, we cannot correctly refer to the stimulus package as a “failure” yet, since it has not yet been implemented. I’m curious, then, at what point do we determine that it has failed or succeeded? I’m reminded of the Iraq war, where nearly everyone agrees that the surge succeeded. Before the surge, however, there was disagreement as to how the war was going. Those on the right said we were winning while those on the left said we were losing. When the Anbar Awakening and subsequent surge clearly turned the tide in our favor, suddenly it became okay to admit that the war had not, in fact, been going that well after all (hence all the hooplah over the “success” of the surge). So that’s my question: when and how do we determine if the stimulus package is a success, and how long do we give it before we conclude that it failed?

  • Mike gamecock DeVine

rejected the bill as it stands.

My view is that Obama is going to agree to several fairly significant changes with repubs in the senate that will remove ACORN, STD and other spending and add some actual and significant tax cuts that will make the final decision on the bill a closer call.

I suspect that I will be torn given my desire for real supply side stimulus to relieve real suffering in the economy asap, but that I will have to oppose the final bill due to the more long term danger of a fed government 30% larger and permanently.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

This strategy failed before, in the 30s. It’s already a failure until proven otherwise.

  • Mike gamecock DeVine
