EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Mitch McConnell Needs Our Help

Image descriptionLast night the House GOP stood together, moderates and conservatives, and opposed Barack Obama’s socialist stimulus scheme.

Today, Mitch McConnell is going to address the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting. According to Roll Call, in his speech McConnell intends to outline a “post partisan path” to leadership that “could also provide a rallying cry for old-line Republicans to reassert their authority within the party” — the same old guard that supported the Bridge to Nowhere and capitulated repeated to President Clinton when he was in office.

Already, McConnell has been favorably quoting Bob Dole on the need to compromise with the Democrats.

So here’s what we need to do. I’ve said he lost his testicles and is now spreading a cancer of capitulation throughout the Senate Republican Conference. We need to send Mitch some balls.

Seriously.

We’re teaming up with the Don’t Go Movement to do just that. Go here and send Mitch some balls. The House GOP can hold the line. Mitch and the Senate GOP should do the same and oppose the stimulus bill.

Mail the balls to Mitch’s Louisville Office:

Sen. Mitch McConnell
601 W. Broadway
Room 630
Louisville, KY 40202
Phone: (502) 582-6304

They can donate them to a local youth program, I’m sure. And they’ll get the point. And thanks to Don’t Go for helping us spread the word.

The Senate GOP Leadership needs to stand up for the GOP, not kowtow to the Democrats.

I was actually considering a diary the other day about sending our Senators some of those car decorations but I was afraid I’d be in violation of Redstate etiquette. I’ll give you a hint as you may have seen ‘em. They hang from the rear of the car, center of bumper…

It’s pretty much the same and relatively inexpensive.

See that’s why your on FNC and I am still working on writing a new diary…lol…;^)

Be sure to pick a shipping option that gets the balls there by Monday-Tuesday of next week. He needs to get the message soon.

what the Dims are doing is nothing more than a Ponzi scheme that makes Madoff look like a beginner. They are giving money to all their investors (voters) with the hope that they will get new voters (our future generations) to pay; so they can have a good time today and they hopefully won’t be around when the bill is due.

We as conservatives need to keep driving home this point day after day after day.

Last night was a defeat for Obama. His strategy is to grow government and to have Republican join with him to provide cover for the next election.

And grow government in a way designed to strengthen the liberal democrat power.

No Republican cover leaves him open to defeat in 10 and 12.

The threat is McConnell, Specter, Gregg, Hatch and company will now make a deal with Obama that will provide the cover Obama is so desperate for.

Further, this would laid the foundation for a further deal on a new and even larger bailout for the banks. Then on socialized health care.

And the voters are not good at just punishing Senate Republicans while rewarding good House Republicans.

All the Republicans are probably going to be hurt by any deals.

I even went for the expedited shipping. I’m not gonna donate balls to some spoiled kids if I don’t get my fun out of it.

I’m having fun imagining FedEx unloading an entire truck at his office. I’ve already gotten my $8 worth of entertainment!

Okay – I sent Senator McConnell 2 Big Red ones–

I’d gladly send some to each Senator with an R —

I also plan on faxing Mark Warner none stop about the fiscal responsibility he claimed to believe in when he was campaigning.

  • http://conservative-and-proud.blogspot.com/ eschristian

this is hilarious – but if these Senators are going to yet again try and undo what the House Republicans did – they better think again. The better get this message.

Perhaps we could find plastic spines online to send to them next if this does not give them the message ; )

GREAT IDEA – I’m being very conservative with my money right now because I feel the consequences of this past election will last for a long time – but that was the best $$$ I spent in a long time – it made me smile ; )

  • Kyle-MI

“And the voters are not good at just punishing Senate Republicans while rewarding good House Republicans.”

Unfortunately, this is all too true. What we need is a civil war between House and Senate Republicans. We are much more likely to regain control of the House in 2010 then the Senate. If it weren’t for the filibuster, I would advocate voting against Senate Republican wimps even in the general election.

  • chemjeff

Don’t you think we should wait and see what he has to say before we start insulting his manhood? McConnell is in a tough spot because he has to attempt to herd the Senate cats. And frankly I was impressed by his performance with the car bailout. Is there any reason to believe he is actually in favor of this porkulus bill?

There may be other things out there but this was the best thing I found and only costs $8.95

Hopefully when he receives his “pair” ; ) he will get the message but maybe this could be part 2 if he does not ; )

The meme out in the states is about getting the state’s share of the “stimulus.” Gov. Palin is catching Hell from the Daily News, Sen. Begich, and not a few State legislators for not asking for enough for Alaska. Every one of those House and Senate members is going to have their “Nay” thrown in their face for trying to “harm” their state by both the MSM and Democrat opposition.

  • azaeroprof

part of “growing a pair” is to do what’s right regardless of the political costs. Besides, do you REALLY think that “Stretch” Pelosi and “Dingy” Harry Reid are going to bend over backwards to send ANY $$ to Alaska to help Sarah Palin’s popularity??

  • http://conservative-and-proud.blogspot.com/ eschristian

“part of ?growing a pair? is to do what?s right regardless of the political costs”

  • Marcus_Traianus

McConnell is the architect of the largest political power loss in history. Yet here he stands as a party leader? I doubt he even remembers what that means anymore.

Congress calls for the heads of shabbily run corporations to resign, but political failures get a pass. In what galaxy does that make sense?

We are all really impressed with gratuitous inside-the-beltway talk about how great a political tactician McConnell is- sure; history proves that. Perhaps this discussion carries philosophical value at the local Mensa meeting. But in the real world we call that bunk.

When storming the hill, I don?t want to look back in order to see who is with me, and who is trying to teach the cannibal savages Kumbaya.

  • Achance

I think what BHO is going to send to Alaska is a bunch of federal auditors and investigators. Not just Alaska, but all Red states. The Public Integrity Section and holdover US Attornies have laid out a pretty good template for making being a Republican elected or appointed official a crime. What better way to discredit potential adversaries? After all, it is a KnownFact that all Republicans are corrupt.

  • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

Watching the election process and their stratigy, it’s not hard to figure out.

And with the Holder nomination (which our Republican senators can’t seem to find any balls to at least bring the facts and witnesses up in hearings about his past – just like we could never get details about Obama’s past out into the public record) it’s beyond doubt that the DOJ will be doing everything possible to destroy every Republican it can individually to deny the GOP a credible POTUS candidate in 2012 and to give them 2/3rds majorities in Congress and controlffo 3/4 of the state legislators. (A 7-2 SCOTUS will be icing on the cake) Then it’s curtains to democracy.

The important point that you keep reminding us of Art is that the Democrats aren’t simply interested in majorities at the Federal level, they want control of the state apparatus (and as many local governments as possible too) too so that there just aren’t enough Republicans in office at any level of government to enable the party to be credible as a national opposition party. Just like every other left-wing one-party state. The playbook hasn’t changed.

And if our Senate Republicans want to grease the slides here because they think they’re going to save their posteriors and keep receiving their rent boy checks, they’ll discover when it’s too late the price of perfidy.

  • NightTwister

…should be demanding that their Senators reject this bailout.

Colorado, while we have our own budget issues, isn’t facing anything like Michigan, California, etc. Why should we pay for their fiscal irresponsibility.

This meme could actually play well in the West where it’s fashionable for pretty much everyone to hate California, where the bulk of this money will be spent. This will be the message in my letter to both Senators and my House Representative.

  • Achance

So, I only have one Republican Senator now, and she is under attack by Begich and the Daily News for not doing enough for Alaska in the Pork Bill. That would be the pork-hating Begich and Daily News. Of course, I’m sure lots of people here think it is all a small price to pay to do in Sen. Stevens.

  • NightTwister

Allard (R) was replaced by Udall (D)
Salazar (D) was just replaced by Bennet (D)

Actually, I think it’s more important that we contact Democrat senators. They’re supposed to represent the State in Washington, not give handouts to other States. I know they will, because they’re part of the collective, and they’re going to try to blow sunshine up our skirt and tell us about all the green jobs we’ll get, but bottom line (and they know it) is we’ll ultimately end up subsidizing other fiscally irresponsible States with this bill.

I think you meant to say that if Mitch has any balls, he’d better do something to protect because Obama’s bringing out the long knives – else Obama’s going to own them.

  • Spartan4Life

Why not show some courage? There is no public support for this plan. Everybody knows it is a boondoggle for big government and a bailout for liberal states at a time when we can’t afford it.

    Show some leadership, damn it!

    Ol’ Mitch “No-nads” McConnell…

Come next week… that gelding’s gonna have more balls than the million man march.

  • Kyle-MI

Are you seriously arguing that Stevens would vote against the Pork Bill? Maybe he would if Democrats would lock Alaska out of any pork. On the other hand, in the pursuit of bipartisanship, it wouldn’t take much pork for Dems to buy Stevens’ vote. With Steven we would be worse off because he would be another vote to count for Obama’s bipartisan strategy.

  • Kyle-MI

This thing only has the support it does because most people don’t know what is in it. The more voters find out about this bill, the more they will find to oppose.

  • Rapunzel46

Indicated that it is doubtful GOP Senators will support the spending bill.. said “a couple” may vote for, but it will be slim pickings. I guess the question is… any dem senators from conservative districts who are up for election in 2010 we can pick off?

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

Seems that’s what The One is trying to send us.

  • http://conservative-and-proud.blogspot.com/ eschristian

but I have noticed over the past week – the more info. that comes out about this stupid bill – the polls are tanking – from like 80% (which I still don’t believe), to like 58%, to 52%, to 42% – no mention of the One’s approval rating (could it be dropping too)???

As far as above link – labor unions calling for Obama – how appropriate.

I emailed my Senators and if either one of them (Georgia) vote for this mess I will vote against them – even if I have to write in a vote for “stupid you voted for the Obama pork bill!!!” – I wonder could you write in such a long name??? ; )

  • Vegas_Rick

It appears the Senate Republicans are at least making noise about following the House Republicans example in reference to the “stimulus” bill.

I know exactly how Begich will vote on this and every other Democrat/BHO bill. The only exception is that they will give him a ceremonial pass on any bill that is directly to the detriment of Alaska, e.g., wilderness status for ANWR. A vote for something like that would be something from which he could never recover here. Stevens would have been a caucus vote on procedure and if the leadership had decided to generally oppose it, he’d have gone with the leadership.

  • Samsara

This thing is going through. The Economy will probably continue to tank with or without the ?stimulus?. Republicans would be fools to sign on. Not one Republican vote was needed in the House to pass the bill, and that is exactly how many they bought?er ?got.

Now our little story moves to the upper chamber, where Democrats need 60 votes for cloture, There are 56 Democrats, and the two Independents Senators (Liberman and Sanders) caucus with them. That leaves the Democrats two short on a closure vote. So, what is Mitch McConnell to do?

His options as I see them are:

    1. Whip hard on the Republican Senators in the hopeless task of keeping them in line. Through superhuman efforts keep them in line and mount a filibuster. Watch as each new piece of bad economic news can be hung around their necks.

    2. Play nice and craft a compromise that will bring more of the despicable graft to Republican states, but piss off Rush Limbaugh.

    3. Fane outrage against the ?stimulus? during press conferences along side the Republican Senators opposing the bill. At the same time wink at the few Republican Senators who vote for closure and exact zero payback. Hang every piece of bad economic news around the Democrats necks.

My money is on option three.

Despite the jabs at his anatomy, McConnell remains a skilled tactician in Senatorial warfare. That is his job. If you are looking to blame someone for the collapse of Republican ?manhood?, call Crawford. The original ?sky is falling? bailout has made this and future bailouts almost impossible to stop.

  • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

Even if a fillibuster is available, better that the Republican insist on a genuine debate and delay cloture until get their full say, exposing all the dark corners, state their alternatives, present their amendments, and then all unanimously agree to cut off debate and allow for a vote.

Then McConnell should hold the line and allow the Democrats to own the bill, as in the House. This prevents a legitimate charge of obstruction (a charge the Republicans could not politically defend against) – as they allowed the vote – but the Republicans still make the Democrats take a stand – and leave the bill’s fate up to the Blue Dogs. Whereupon the Republicans can hang the outcome, good or ill.

This is responsible opposition – the Democrats come up with the bill and you let the cards fall where they will – win or lose.

Not chess…poker. Hopefully McConnell knows the game

  • Vegas_Rick

No filibuster (as if), just get as many no votes as possible. If Snowe and Gregg and Graham and McCain want to split with the party, let them.

The dems will still own this horror show.

    I learned somthing

Budget bills are governed under special rules called “reconciliation” which do not allow filibusters. Reconciliation once only applied to bills that would reduce the budget deficit, but since 1996 it has been used for all matters related to budget issues.

    But

The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 created reconciliation. (See Pub.L. 93-344, ? 310; 88 Stat. 297; 2 U.S.C. ? 641.) But Congress came to use it in the 1980s. Congress used reconciliation to enact President Bill Clinton’s 1993 (fiscal year 1994) budget. (See Pub.L. 103-66, 107 Stat. 312.) President Clinton wanted to use reconciliation to pass his health care plan, but Senator Robert Byrd insisted that the health care plan was out of bounds for a process that is theoretically about budgets.

    Thanks

If he actually makes use of tone pair, perhaps he can help another Senator with the second pair.

Its not like there’s an overabundance currently in use in the GOP.
