Congratulations To The Man of Steele

Congratulations to Michael Steele on his victory in the hotly contested race for Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The former Maryland Lieutenant Governor was not our first choice for this spot, given our concern that he was not the most conservative choice in the race. But he is an eloquent and persuasive spokesman for the party and an impressive man, and we wish him well.

The Republican Party needs to do two contradictory things in the years to come: return to the party’s conservative roots and sell the party’s message to voters who are not base conservatives. Chairman Steele has promised an aggressive outreach to do the latter; we urge him, in that effort, not to neglect the former. We can’t sell a message based on our principles if we don’t have principles.

Congratulations Chairman Steele.

As a new precinct committeeman (well almost, paperwork is still in transit), I hope that you will do what you can to work with people at the local level.

We have to rebuild this party from the ground up.

Congratulations to Mike Steele

I’d like the Directors to know that I didn’t do any lobbying personally on behalf of Michael Steele in any way, shape or form other than the few words I said in his support earlier this month right here on Redstate.

I’m glad he won!

And I think he’s going to be a great spokesperson for the RNC and a wonderful organizer, manager and leader. This is the best news I’ve heard in several weeks, frankly.

Go Mike! Hopefully some day you and I will meet up at 32nd and North Charles and go for a beverage together, or just a walk around the neighborhood. Work hard and make me proud.

If I didn’t tell you that of course I intend to work hard with you. We’ve all got a lot of work to do, but I really think that with you at the top spot in the RNC we’ve all got much brighter days to look forward to. I know that you know you’re here at a crucial time in our country’s history and I want to make the most of it with you.

You’ve earned it.

Excellent quote

“We can’t sell a message based on our principles if we don’t have principles.”

I am stealing that!

I am however worried about the numerous bumper stickers, signs, etc. that are already popping up all over the internet from his “Steele Democrat” days.

I’m not too worried if Steele used to be one. (I actually didn’t know it). In fact I may be able to use it as a recruiting tool. “It’s OK if you’ve always registered Democrat, our party chairman was a Democrat once too. But that party left him..”

And please Chairman Steele start speaking up in that wonderful way you have of conveying conservative points of view that is just terrific!

Goodness knows our Republican and Congressional R leadership could use some help, and after 8 years of the great Uncommunicator it’s about time to start punching back!

You mentioned that

“Chairman Steele has promised an aggressive outreach to do the latter”

I honestly hope this to be the case. We definitely need to reach out and make the point to other conservative minds aside from the party base. I especially hope this is the case of the Log Cabin Republicans. Liberals heads would just explode if they lost the gay vote!

We are the most non-racist people around. We judge each individual on their merits.

Michael Steele got to his position because he shown he was capable of the position and committed to our Principles.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I don’t think the House ever lost it but I do worry about the Senate and the party leadership. This gives me “hope” for “change”.

1st Black RNC Chairman - I just heard that on the radio, and we had our first woman VP candidate (SARAH) in 2008 ; )

To be honest Steele was not my first choice but I liked his energy and passion. I wanted Ken Blackwell to win and I hope that Michael Steele would include Blackwell in the RNC because he is a strong conservative.

I like the tone he set earlier - “if you stand in our way, get ready to get knocked down” - I like to hear some strength coming from the RNC - I just hope exactly what was said above from the directors is taken into consideration by Steele and the RNC - I am just glad it is somebody new, somebody people knows, somebody with passion, and I pray that we are a stronger party from all the recent “change” that has been going on at the RNC and the Congress GOP members (Senate GOP please don’t screw up our momentum - do the right thing). ; )

Your potential to lead this party back from the abyss is enormous. Your communication skills are the biggest thing we’ve been lacking. We’ve needed a voice to carry our values, principles and ideas to the uniformed 53%.

But first you must share our values, principles and ideas. I was disappointed at your defense of the Senators who voted to confirm Holder to AG. You said we shouldn’t waste political capital on fights we can’t win. When nominees are clearly unacceptable as were Holder and Giettner (sp), yet Republican Senators vote to confirm them, what message does that send? Do you think either of those two would have gotten out of committee when we had the majority? Hell NO. We’ve GOT to stand on principle.

Now that I’ve said my piece, I wish you every success as RNC chair. I am excited about your leadership and vision.

But I’ll be watching.

God Speed!

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge.

olsmithie Friday, January 30th at 7:23PM EST (link)

If we don’t show true colors against unprincipled people such as Holder , or dishonest people like Geitner, then it is business as usual for the RNC.

Opposing th riffraff of the Obama administration is the way to raise “political capital.” Look at the reaction to the house voting unanimously to oppose the “bankrupt my grandchildren bill,” if you have any doubts.

Watching and hoping for “change” for the better.

Godspeed.
