The 4% Problem

The Senate Republicans are out-gaming themselves on the stimulus bill. No wonder the Democrats are sitting on their hands right now.

The Senate has already approved Johnny Isakson’s (R-GA) tax credit plan for home purchases. That makes it more likely Johnny will vote for the bill.

The Senate GOP is also proposing the dreadful 4% mortgage. Mind you, it is a number they pulled out of thin air, despite multiple attempts to justify it.

The problem with the 4% plan is that it is a bad idea. The GOP seems intent to throw a bunch of bad ideas at the plan to look reasonable in front of the public. They do not actually expect the Democrats to embrace the 4% plan.

But what if they did?

Privately, I’m told a lot of the GOP, including some of the biggest proponents of the 4% plan, are not actually in favor of it. They just wanted to get something out there. They assure me it won’t be embraced by the Democrats, so they are safe.

That is until the Democrats embrace the 4% plan in the stimulus or in separate legislation.

Then the GOP will either have to vote for its own economically bad idea, or look more stupid than they already do.

The GOP should keep its hands off the stimulus bill. They should vote against it. Following Johnny Isakson’s lead will lead them straight to where Saxby Chambliss found himself this past year — fighting for his political life.

The GOP need not vote for the stimulus. They should make the Democrats own it.

Trying to get a little piece here and there for the GOP is a great way to make the GOP look as if it has still not learned its lesson.

The House Republicans is beginning to succeed in the eyes of the public. Rasmussen polls show the decline of support to the stimulus package.

We can all expect the launching of “major attacks” by the libs and dems against the Republicans. Small mistake by the Rs can easily be made into something big.

One example is the article from the very blue www.salon.com written by Joan Walsh. URL of the article is here:

    http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2009/02/04/obama/

Walsh is so eager to depend Obama’s plan. She’s encouraging Obama to show his skills as Great Communicator, better than Reagan. Walsh is proposing for Obama to reveal that “Republicans have been lying to the people in 30 years”.

Although I find her article so INCONSISTENT, she is using her idiocy to spew venom against Republicans. Walsh is actually the making a case for the benefits of “Big Government”.

This 4% mortgage measure by the Senate Republicans is really ill-proposed and is inconsistent with the workings of the market. It can be used by KOs, leftist blogs, lib/dem writers. MSM and all the lying Democrats in Washington to wash away the great stride made by the House Republicans and by ordinary conservative Americans including the people at REDSTATE against the further expansion of the Government.

SENATE REPUBLICANS, WAKE UP!!!!! [ Or, it is really better for you all to just sleep during sessions.]

Not only is the stimulus plan extremely unpopular, it also violates the most basic conservative principles. It’s the best of both worlds. This is a home run pitch right down the middle, and Republicans decide to bunt?

All kinds of ridiculous pork is going to be revealed after this bill has passed. It will be even more unpopular than it is right now, especially once the public has seen it has done absolutely nothing to help the economy.

The fact that that even liberal Democrats are scared of it should be enough of a signal that Republicans should go nowhere near this thing.

The base needs to hold the Republican leadership’s feet to the fire on this. Take names and make these “Obama RINOs” famous.
