Obama admits using tax policy to promote “fairness” not to raise revenue

Using taxes on investment to make things fair will only make people poor.

Ladies and gentlemen, when Barack Obama succeeds, the country fails. Look no further than this interview with Charlie Gibson:

GIBSON: All right. You have, however, said you would favor an increase in the capital gains tax. As a matter of fact, you said on CNBC, and I quote, “I certainly would not go above what existed under Bill Clinton,” which was 28 percent. It’s now 15 percent. That’s almost a doubling, if you went to 28 percent.

But actually, Bill Clinton, in 1997, signed legislation that dropped the capital gains tax to 20 percent.

OBAMA: Right.

GIBSON: And George Bush has taken it down to 15 percent.

OBAMA: Right.

GIBSON: And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down.

So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?

OBAMA: Well, Charlie, what I’ve said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.

There you have it. Barack Obama is not interested in raising revenue to fund the government. He is interested in to keep people from making money — because it is fair.

What’s worse is Obama goes on to prove how terrifically academic he is and has no grounding in real world economics. Gibson challenges him again:

GIBSON: But history shows that when you drop the capital gains tax, the revenues go up.

OBAMA: Well, that might happen, or it might not. It depends on what’s happening on Wall Street and how business is going.

Put it to you this way Barry: business won’t be going on at all on Wall Street if you jack up the capital gains tax.

The only refreshing thing in this whole exchange is Obama admitting he is not using tax policy to raise revenue, but rather to distribute fairness across socio-economically divergent pools of people.

Other than that, though, it is scary that the guy just over half the nation thought was qualified to be President has zero sense when it comes to fostering a healthy economy.

………Testing the waters, poking, prodding……. looking for the tipping point where people will actually rise up and say NO MORE and actually act on it.

Democrats want everyone to be poor except for themselves in power.
Poor people are easy to control as they need more help from the govt.
Does anyone doubt Obama’s socialist tendencies anymore?

Required reading for RedStaters: Harrison Bergeron, a (very) short story by Kurt Vonnegut. Yes, Vonnegut.

Capital gains taxes are the perfect example of “handicaps” in the story – government-engineered impediments designed to enforce a perverse concept of equality, a/k/a “fairness”.

THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren?t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General.

Ooops. Looks like we got there a little early…

And Obama is a marxist. This country will get severe whiplash when the rest of business puts on the brakes. Obama’s “solution” will be another “stimulus”. Take about squeezing blood from a rock.
Pretty soon there won’t be any “rocks” left.

Yes, of course, you are right, but Obama’s policy goes far beyond any Democrat ever before. And the bad thing is, the public is buying this nonsense. That’s the worst part. We need to get our message out or we’re toast.

The biggest problem with Vonnegut’s scenario is what you must do to achieve such a state. It involves lots and lots and lots and lots of killing.

Hitler wanted a “master race” to rule, not this noise we get from liberals…….but you have to kill a lot of people to get either one.

that the man is Communist! Leninist, Marxist, Bolshevik, what ever you want to call it.
He has all the traits, features and actions of same.
I know “enlightened” persons prefer to put their heads in the ground and hope they aren’t affected, many have been sounding this alarm for months before the election.

Just call it what is guys, take the gloves off.

I’m beginning to feel like Churchill. I may just take my oils down to the coast and paint seascapes for a while, tired of beating the drum and being ignored while the country goes down the tubes.

Iz , you are dead on sir, I am tired of seeing even some on this forum refuse to call it what it is, afraid of appearing “unenlightened.”

Well, I have been on the Kennedy Foundation hit list longer than some of you have been alive, so welcome Izone, I ‘m sure you are there or will be soon. Keep banging that drum….

we are entering into a self sustaining downward spiral.

As Obama’s policies create even more unemployment, more and more people become dependent on his programs – the “rich” are not expected to fund the programs (he has printing presses for that) they are taxed as a means to create even more economic havoc – thus perpetuating the spiral.

Taxation as a form of “justice” or social modification goes against the spirit of the governments mandate.

He is finding himself in a win win situation – if for some remote stroke of luck his policies create growth then he is a hero – if his policies create an economic standstill, enough people become dependent on government programs that they fear republicans would take away. Quite frankly without a significant number of Americans suddenly “waking up” or spontaneously seeing the light I can’t see how he can lose the public’s support.

It is sad to say, but I know a lot of otherwise smart people who are falling for this crap – if they can be sucked in then I really have no hope for the masses.

The founder of Planned Parenthood, one of Hillary’s heroes was a big Eugenics proponent, thinking we could murder our way to a perfect race….

    Heard that before??

I think the problem is, for the first time the our side of the debate truly and utterly sincere. And when it comes to politics people are not used to sincerity, so those on the left see our drum banging not for what it is, a sincere warning, they view it as hate mongering and name calling.

I can speak for myself (staunch Republican) when I say I actually relate less now to being a Republican as a result of what has happened, and more as an American who is pissed off, outraged, scared, befuddled, isolated, and mad as hell.

I think most of us are speaking as Americans who are pissed off at both parties, unfortunately, those we are debating are approaching the argument as Democrats, who are simply accusing us as being contrarians up to the same old tactics, sore losers who are unwilling to give someone else a chance.

Well actually, most of us are outraged at what Bush did with the first round of bailouts, we are glad to give someone else a try, but we will not stand by and “give him a chance” when the alternative he is proposing is SOCIALISM.

A good chunk of my compensation is in stock grants. I won’t cash out as long as Obama is president and probably for many many years after that. People with gains to realize will simply wait him out rather than pony up more money to the government. Expect capital gains to plummet.

One of the fundamental problems with Democrats and Liberalism is the failure to understand human nature.

  • mom2oneson

Would you exampe on the people fearing republicans would take away gov programs?
    1. First what government programs are we talking about? Is it stuff like TANF and Welfare To Work, Food Stamps, Medicaid, College Financial Aid, EITC, Additional Child Tax Credit, Section 8, housing projects, LHEAP, WIC?

    2. What kind of fears do they have? Do they think repuplicans will try and lower the income limits for food stamps or lower the capital gains limit to be elgible for the EITC? I’ve never heard this – being afraid that republicans will limit benefits and am curious about it. I’ve been around a lot of people at least on public assistance and have never heard this expressed by anyone.

Unfortunately, 44 would rather have a Lose : Lose scenario because it’s “fair”, instead having all Americans win. But I guess that’s what you get when an electorate its press chooses a leader on the basis of a suave persona, and a carefully crafted illusion of competence.

44 couldn’t close a door, let alone a deal. Strap in my fellow producers, we’re in for a crash landing.

on the Kennedy Foundation *hit list.

People are used to hearing mainly from Republicans and Democrats, (i.e. all BS , all the time…),not conservatives, (with an honest message.).

I believe you are on to something. This warrants further thought.

    Thanks!

I am selling some land on Thursday near Gamecock’s old home place and need to see if I can bank the check, or just sign it and hand it over to Geitner. After all I don’t want him to catch me cheating on my.. oh never mind.

I thought about keeping the land to build a Gamecock Memorial Park and Petting Zoo, but thought it better to part with it before Dear Leader nationalizes all private property along with the auto companies, banks and hospitals.
I wish to goodness I was kidding about that last part.
