That shows pretty much the same result:

http://www.ronsachs.com/docs/may2009poll.pdf

Crist has to be driven under 50% for Rubio to have shot.

I believe he was the best Chairman the FLGOP has ever had. Is there any sign that he'll be interested in the Governor's office?

I voted for Crist when he ran for governor because I believed that he would follow the same track as Jeb Bush. Sadly, this RINO sealed his fate when he not only greedily accepted the Swindelus Package, but then went on the road with Obama as a RINO lap dog.

I have listened to Rubio and he is EXACTLY what the Republican party needs! He is young, articulate and will attract the much needed Hispanic vote. Please listen to this man and you will see that he can beat Crist.

I will ONLY vote for the RINO if he can beat Rubio, and then only by holding my nose. And let me tell you, many well informed voters I know feel exactly the same way. Crist sold us out!

Like the tax increases he's trying to push thru? Like the total fecklessness with regards to property insurance? Like the asinine Drill Nowhere, Drill Never attitude -- to "protect our tourism industry"?

I can't be the only one to note that if gas is too expensive, Mom&Pop will be unwilling to load the kids in the Grand Touring MegaSUV for a road trip to Disney -- and there goes our Tourism. And somehow, Cuba and China are more to be trusted drilling 45 miles from Miami than American regulated companies are, 60 miles from Tampa. (And I'll mention two direct hits by major hurricanes over NOLA way, with nary a single drop of oil spilled).

Crist has a high overall approval rating in FL because the Democrats like him. Republicans, not nearly so much. And when push comes to shove in the general election, those FL Democrats who "approve" of Gov. Crist are NOT going to vote for him. To be well-liked by people who will NOT vote for you, while despised by a large cohort that, other things being equal, would be inclined to vote for you, does not make a majority on election day.

I'm not ready to impale John Cornyn for stepping forward to support Crist. Given his view of things, I can see where he'd think it was the smart thing to do.

You can't go on offense if you're playing defense. The Dems will outspend us in 2010. Cornyn can't afford to lose any more GOP seats. (He probably will, anyway, based on what I'm hearing).

If we still had 55 Senators, maybe Cornyn could have risked letting Rubio and Crist duke it out. Unfortunately, though, the TX Senator has precisely zero margin of error.

Let's also not forget that lost Senate seats are lost for six years.

Cornyn's job is not to worry about Florida. It's to worry about the Senate.

Why can't Rubio run for governor?

Anyone in congress the past few years had to know the US government was hugely behind making loans to people who couldn't possibly pay them back. Nevertheless they did nothing, resulting in a collapse of our economy and loss of the life work and savings of many of us. All these guys huddling in DC right now are the definition of white collar criminals. They don't behead you but they kill you just the same. From each one, I'd like to know in one sentence whey they haven't resigned in shame.

Since you used a sport analogy, I'll try this one.....

This is the Story of a couple of people who have been customers of a Deli for some time. The first customer wanders into the Deli on a Daily basis, looks at the sandwiches, and informs the owner "I have been a long time customer, but I don't like this new way you make the sandwiches and am therefore going to go over to the Deli across the street to buy my sandwiches. But, I'll stop in each day to see when you change your sandwiches."

The second customer is also not "pleased" with the new sandwiches. They kindly inform "I'm not really keen on the new sandwiches, but I'll be happy to buy some of your wonderful Chicken Soup."

To which Customer do you think this Deli owner is going to ask "What might we be able to do to meet your preferences?"

Maybe that will help?!?!? Since the Story method can work getting a point across to kids. and since some seem to act like children around here at times ;-) lol (of course, some with ZERO sense of humor will no doubt think I am calling them children and how I'm such a Bully and this another personal attack... yadda, yadda, yadda..... boo hoo.... he's picking on me...... it was a JOKE - did you see the ;-) and the lol -- just some rib-poking...)

Take care friends

I agree with that is how they see it... and from a strategy standpoint I perfectly understand and agree in principle that if you can lock up a race or two you can focus your efforts to those harder fights.....

That is all any of this is about.... Strategy.... I don't have to like their Picks, but I fully agree it is the best strategy!

Some seem to view that every little fight is the only fight.... there is alot on the plate -- it is not like having that wonderful sports team with just a few areas that can be examined to be improved in the hopes of going over the top in the Championships.... This Republican team is looking to plug holes in a whole lot of positions and you just cannot get PERFECT free-agents for each of those spots.

We can continue to lament the choices we don't agree on (but not that we should stop saying we are unhappy about the Player signed, just if we badger them endlessly so as to completely hurt our own cause because they will just stop listening to us ENTIRELY) or focus on helping with the overall strategy and get our REMINDERS in how we are NOT PLEASED with some aspects of how the Management is building the team.

Marco means well. He's a good conservative. But Crist delivered the goods to the voters, which is why they like him.

I was talking to a long time Republican political consultant. Marco is dead in the water and just doesn't know it yet. Crist will win this nomination and the General. The NRSC simply made the mistake of alienating Base Conservatives by stating the obvious too early.

The problem, of course, is that this leaves the Governor's office open for Alex Sink. Unless Jeb gets his buddy Al Cardenas to run against Alex, this place is going D for redistricting. Not nice.

As to Rubio? He should go for statewide cabinet office or even try a run at Alex. He won't beat Crist, though.

but I think he caved to the daily whine of his Ultra-Liberal spouse! It is NOT as if he needs the Salary... he could have and should have let the Liberals go on and on and take the Veto to the ultimate and SHUT DOWN THE CA GOVERNMENT ENTIRELY until the Legislators relented to reasonable Budgets with Cuts and No Increased Taxes -or- the people recalled him. Without the Ultra-Liberal he married in the house with him, I think he would have stood his ground more. She convinced him it would be okay to be a Country-cluber and go along to get along rather than be a Real Leader he wanted (and we expected him) to be!!!

I do think we should encourage (instead of discourage) good people to challenge Republicans in primaries. For one thing, if politicians, even good ones, just keep getting rubber stamped by their own party without having to answer questions from challengers then they become like so many of our old warhorses (especially in the Senate). They forget about the constituents and start to think like the beltway.
