Mitch McConnell Scores Huge

Friends, read that headline again. It is worth pointing out that Senator Mitch McConnell has been most excellent on the issue of Sotomayor. And I, given my frequent criticisms of him, want to this out there.

This morning, the NRA is announcing that it is going to score the Sotomayor nomination. This is a great thing. And I have no doubt that while outside groups have applied much pressure, Mitch McConnell leading so effectively on this front was a deciding factor. No group wants to come out and be left hanging by a failure of leadership.

McConnell has mitchslapped the Democrats through this entire process and while I may have qualms about him on several fronts, there is no doubt this morning that he has been extremely effective on this front.

Well done.

Given that he has already said he is going to vote for Sotomayor.

Ultimately, though, I blame SC Republicans for this – they knew who the guy was last time he ran for reelection, and yet made no attempt to get rid of him in the primary.

In the end, SC Republicans have no one to blame but themselves.

Probably from being prodded by several groups.

“No group wants to come out and be left hanging by a failure of leadership.”
Not exactly sure what the implication here is. Which group? NRA?

The NRA wrote the Judiciary Committee, Leahy , Sessions, Reid and McConnell on July 7th:

and published a strong statement and letter to the Senators on July 16th,

and wrote Reid and McConnell , copying the whole Senate opposing, once again Sotomayors approval.,

Senator McConnell did well. Very pleased with his response.
He has been hearing from the NRA before today,
    Am I missing something?

He does right once in a while, but anytime there is TV time to be had, he will do whatever is required to get the publicity.

Hard to believe he and Senator DeMint are from the same state…

…so we in his family can be glad too. It doesn’t mean that we don’t lobby for a more competent surgeon for the future.
