An Overabundance of Ironies: U.S. Senate May Get Shut Down

From a Senate source to me:

A Senate page has swine flu. Because of this, votes may be canceled on Friday (convenient) and if an outbreak is declared they will shut down the whole complex.

Lets shut it down for 6 months

or 9 months or 12 months. They aren’t accomplishing anything in the best interests of the VOTERS/TAXPAYER/CITIZENS.

Well it time to say a little money

Richard Mullins Wednesday, July 29th at 7:09PM EDT (link)

I’m all for a long shutdown of the Senate right now. It would be the best thing to happen in Washington in a while.

If so, prayers for the young page

(S)he is about to have a couple really lousy weeks.

That's one thing to do while there out

Richard Mullins Wednesday, July 29th at 7:12PM EDT (link)

I hope for the best for the senate page. Hope she comes out of it very well.

So...nothing will be accomplished in Congress for a bit.

George Claghorn Wednesday, July 29th at 7:17PM EDT (link)

In other words, it will be business as usual.

“Victory comes, though we know not when. We must be happy warriors until the end.

For those of you who struggle with what goes on, who see retreat and capitulation, and who feel like not just your political opponents, but those who hold dear all those things you hold as blasphemous — be cheerful. Be happy. Victory is already yours.

You must just have the courage to not get discouraged and have the will to fight on.” – Erick Erickson at RightOnline

How they should handle it with some of the Senators

bk Wednesday, July 29th at 7:41PM EDT (link)

The following Senators will be over 75 before year-end. They should receive end of life counseling but no medication.
Robert Byrd
Frank Lautenberg
Daniel Inouye
Daniel Akaka
Arlen Specter
Jim Bunning
Ted Kennedy
Dick Lugar
Dianne Feinstein
Chuck Grassley
Bob Bennett
This would demonstrate true leadership when it comes to backing ObamaCare.

The following will be between 70 and 75 by year-end. They should receive medication only if 1) a panel of 25 randomly selected registered voters deems it appropriate by a majority vote, 2) NIH and other govt agencies certify that there is no shortage of the required vaccines or medication, and 3) the Senators pay the full cost out of pocket.
Orrin Hatch
Richard Shelby
Carl Levin
Jim Inhofe
Herb Kohl
Pat Roberts
George Voinovich
Barbara Mikulski
John McCain
Jay Rockefeller
Roland Burris
Thad Cochran
Kit Bond
Ted Kaufman
Tom Harkin
Harry Reid

John McCain

should never have to pay for any medical treatment. He’s earned it.

OK, now they're just messing with us.

Moe Lane Wednesday, July 29th at 7:43PM EDT (link)

Seriously, I hope that the page is OK.

Oi, I've got an idea...

stixxxnstones Wednesday, July 29th at 8:13PM EDT (link)

…if this chap has bad medical bills, how about we do a RedState fundraising drive to pay for some or all of it?

Would be a hilarious alternative to socialized medicine :D

Special considerations

grinlap Wednesday, July 29th at 7:49PM EDT (link)

This story reminds me of something I don’t see discussed wrt the health care mess. That is the special treatment some folks are going to get because of their social status, who they know, how much extra they can pay, etc. I’m not talking about the different and special plans congress critters are likely to have but just folks with somewhat higher “status” of one form or another but still covered by the “plan for the masses”.

Like your cousin who’s married to Barney Frank’s brother so that when your cousin gets sick old Barn will make a call just like he did for that GM plant in his district and your cousin will magically appear at the top of the waiting list.

Remember the panic when it wasn't a problem?

eliminatedebt Wednesday, July 29th at 8:26PM EDT (link)

I can imagine the ensuing panic when things actually get shut down. It doesn’t matter that the Senate might shut down, they were going to be on recess soon anyways, its that the media will latch on to the former and scare the heck out of everyone.

Independent, fiscal conservative.

"Business as usual"?

willik Thursday, July 30th at 6:46AM EDT (link)

I don’t think so.

If they stay out, regardless the reason, the more time we have to keep our money in our wallets.

I say: “Thank God” and please stay the heck out.

I wonder what legislation they can’t pass at this moment. This swine flu “crisis” seems to be rather opportune and so close to the August recess.

Hmmm!

A New Concern About Obamacare and the "Underserved!"

snappysue Thursday, July 30th at 8:41PM EDT (link)

With the emphasis on compensatory classifications for the “underserved” which would result in preference for minorities first in medical schools, perhaps the same preferences would apply to medical care itself, you know, fat cat whites have had medical care for generations, so now, the best care, standing at the head of the line goes to poor politically correct minorities. Hm m m m so that conservative white males go to the back of the line for cancer treatment and heart surgeries etc.. H m m m another sort of reparations. Sound impossible to you . . . well, I understand that the GM dealerships that were left in the cold without a business going forward were owned and operated by Republican contributers . . . So politically correct medical care . . . it truly makes me wonder about flu shots for the weak and elderly. After all, if Hitler could have had his targets peaceably line up for a vaccine it would have been much neater. In the Netherlands they give hot shots to the disabled and . . . So sorry, blame the manufacturer. I guess I just don’t trust chicken little or the government. I hope that I am wrong and alarmist. But me and my family will NOT be first in line.
