As you can tell, we’ve been away and busy at the RedState Gathering.
Liz Cheney spoke. She was amazing.
“America needs a commander in chief,” she said, ” not a global community organizer.”
Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, Michael Williams, Ken Cuccinelli, Karen Handel, Tom Price, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Jim DeMint, and Rick Perry all joined us in person or via video.
It was an amazing time. Stand by for lots of video and pictures.

It was a great gathering. Outstanding speakers that you could listen to and believe. The speakers seemed interested in the RS community as well.
Erick, Caleb (apparently an events coordinator in another life), Neil, Moe, EPU, and most of the other contributors were there and they are awesome folks. It was also wonderful to meet some of the regular posters, but if I start naming names, I’ll forget someone and be annoyed with myself. I can just tell you that RS has robbed the talent store.
It is good to be back, and I’m sure diaries and stories will abound. Are you sure TNJim, you didn’t crash the site?

smagar (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 3:19PM EST (link)But, I am curious—what happened to EPU’s “net 80″ diary that was on the front page yesterday. Or, at least I think it was on the front page…
I mean…I remember commenting on it…or, at least I thought I did.
And, I REALLY remember JadedByPolitics—insightful as always—-asking if I was a Quisling. Boy, I could have sworn he said that. It seemed so real. After all, it sounds like exactly the kind of clever, constructive, Madame Defarge-like thing Jaded would say…
How could I have imagined all of that?

Heh.
Bill S (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 5:55PM EST (link)The topic certainly came up in discussion, but mostly among some of us who would rather see the topic get thrown in the bit bucket.
You can bet that between Liz Cheney and “them”, that would have at least got the attention of the Kos Kidz. I think we pretty much flew under the trolldar.
“It’s such a fine line between stupid, and clever.” – David St. Hubbins
There was at least one post
TNJim (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 6:05PM EST (link)on the Kos Kidz that mentioned the gathering. The barbs in that one were slung at Erick. Something about it being hypocritical about suggesting public transportation be used in ATL…
Don’t you know that’s socialism??
As you can imagine it went downhill from there…
If you're not getting the attention of the bad guys
Bill S (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 6:43PM EST (link)you’re not doing your job.
Glad to hear they were paying attention. Dan, Moe and I were talking this morning while riding MARTA – about how this first gathering was about the same size (maybe even bigger) as the first Kos meeting, once you factor in the site hit rates. They had about 1000 at their first meeting, yet their hit rate was probably at least 4x ours at that point. We had ~200-250
Given the fact that Caleb, Erick, etc. put this together in less than 3 months, it was a resounding success by virtually any measure. With next year being the election year where we recapture the House & Senate, it’ll be a perfect time to kick up the Redstate Gathering several notches. I can’t wait.

Listen here Neil Stevens,
MrsNachos (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 6:41PM EST (link)I’ve about had it with your lip for the weekend. I will point you to vistaprint where I downloaded the card and put my last initial in which happened to be in a similar font to the wordpress logo.
Besides. That’s my professional card, not my blogger card, so there.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 9:54PM EST (link)I normally go out of my way to HT sources. In this particular instance, given the post to which I was replying, I simply made an unfair assumption that folks would figure out it came from http://blueshelled.com.
It’s really cute. And I like your website. Especially the July 31 entry.
Please accept my apology. I will absolutely link to you every time I steal a great video or thought.
mbecker, SWEET! ;) Thank
MrsNachos (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 10:32PM EST (link)you. I work hard on it. I appreciate the kind words.

Just THANKS
kellymch (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 5:34PM EST (link)As someone whose political experience has been limited to voting, listening to talk radio, and reading blogs, I appreciate what you at Redstate are doing to educate people like me.
Thanks to a column I read several months ago about becoming active in our local Republican group, I went online and printed the application, put it in an envelope, addressed it and left it sitting on my desk. I’m a school teacher so it sat on my desk for the two months of summer vacation. Last week I had to grab something from my classroom and saw the application sitting there. I put it in the mail immediately.
After listening to the informative speakers at the Redstate Gathering, I now know what to do next. I’m going to give the application a couple of days to get to our County leader and then I am going to call and find out if my precinct has a chairperson. If we do, I will attend the meetings and volunteer my efforts. If we don’t, I will volunteer for that position. I am also joining my local Republican Women’s group.
Thanks for the education, Redstate. Not only that but thanks for the opportunity to hear the speakers on Saturday. I took something positive away from each and every person that spoke.
My brother is trying to convince me to become actively involved in a third-party. I am trying to convince him that conservative, small-government people can take back the Republican Party.
Thanks so much to all who toiled to make this gathering possible. It meant a lot to me.
Now, where do I send my pics?
Thank you all,
Kelly
WRT RedState Gathering 2009...
Aaron Gardner (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 6:16PM EST (link)I had a wonderful time networking with so many people. I got pictures with Marco Rubio, Michael Williams, Liz Cheney and Erick Erickson of RedState. It was a truly inspiring weekend. It was so amazing to be around all the great people who attended and spoke. One of the requirements for speakers was that they had to stay and interact with all us common folk…turned out they were more then happy because they were common folk too. The speakers didn’t use notes…or teleprompters…they simply spoke common sense from their heart out of love for their country.
For those who couldn’t attend this year, I hope to meet you next year.

“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”– Malcolm X, Audubon Ballroom, December 13, 1964
Next year I get the "Travelled Greatest Distance" award.
Achance (Diary) Sunday, August 2nd at 7:36PM EST (link)I lost the who gets the “mad miles” this year, so I’m off to CA at oh-dark-thirty tomorrow morning for a lovely two weeks with SWMBO’s relatives. At least I get a little Country Music and some poolside reading time.

Neil Stevens (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 2:58PM EST (link)I don’t think I’d win because I’m guessing we had at least one person from Northern California, but it’d be nice if we could make a map of where everyone was from.

Enjoying the reports and looking forward to the pics! I hope there’s another planned for next summer.
Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.
Chiming in late, like usual
Finrod (Diary) Monday, August 3rd at 11:16AM EST (link)It was good meeting the folks I met, and for those of you that didn’t meet me, I was the guy that was saying something that I’ve since found out is mistaken: NBA players aren’t guaranteed a salary of $1 million+ until they’ve been in the league at least six years. Still, everyone but NBA rookies are guaranteed a salary of >$500K, the amount that the government wants to limit the salaries of bailout companies’ CEOs to.
My overall point, however, is still valid: Fortune 500 CEOs do more for the economy and deserve to make more money than NBA players.
Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?
