EDITOR OF REDSTATE

An Amazing Time

As you can tell, we’ve been away and busy at the RedState Gathering.

Liz Cheney spoke. She was amazing.

“America needs a commander in chief,” she said, ” not a global community organizer.”

Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, Michael Williams, Ken Cuccinelli, Karen Handel, Tom Price, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Jim DeMint, and Rick Perry all joined us in person or via video.

It was an amazing time. Stand by for lots of video and pictures.

and Cold Warrior gave a wealth of input, all from Saturday’s meeting. I’m looking foward to next year. Didn’t get to meet Moe, bummer.

Off to see some beautiful Georgia countryside, then back to CA tomorrow.

  • Obis_Sister

Erick, Caleb, et al. – Saturday was an outstanding day – well done!

    Cool dude, huh?

There are also some alleged pics of Obama’s mom., allegedly taken by F. M. Davis. Can’t paste them here. Reason: Pornographic.

I had a great time Saturday. I’ll be posting my own diary (with pictures) about the event later once I get back home this evening. It was great getting to meet so many great conservative candidates for office. It was also nice getting to put some faces with the names of so many great RedStaters.

I’m already looking forward to next year’s gathering.

I will be spending the next, oh, 4 hours in ATL with nothing to do but eat, chat about the conference, and moderate RS.

    Law and order return.

New contributing Editor Vladimir was introduced.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

My blackberry is awesome (as in shock and awe). I am not hindered much.

  • smagar

But, I am curious—what happened to EPU’s “net 80″ diary that was on the front page yesterday. Or, at least I think it was on the front page…

    I mean…I remember commenting on it…or, at least I thought I did.

And, I REALLY remember JadedByPolitics—insightful as always—-asking if I was a Quisling. Boy, I could have sworn he said that. It seemed so real. After all, it sounds like exactly the kind of clever, constructive, Madame Defarge-like thing Jaded would say…

How could I have imagined all of that?

Let me see… is there an expiration date on this half-consumed case of Two-Buck Chuck?

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

Hope we all can make it next year

  • Rod_Patrick

I just want pics and videos from the RS gathering … fast (but not furious, I guess).

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

    Just keeping order. :-)

  • Rod_Patrick

Don’t you think you need a well-deserved rest?

    LOL.

It’s just a short ride in town fr me to go from where I live out in Douglasville to the Grand Hyatt, but I hope everyone else who was there this year is able to make it.

I’m already looking forward to who all will be speaking.

  • Rod_Patrick

But you also had your fun while they were all busy in the “Gathering”, right?

Besides, you also enjoyed your time with Neo-King, StoveLA, Speciallost, …. and Bicker. Admit it!

Can’t wait for the next RS gathering! LOL!

  • pilgrim

could be like Sherman’s march thru Georgia?

    Smile.

  • seesalrun

Saturday was awesome. All the speakers were fabulous and I was relieved that it was NOT about personalities, it WAS about policies, platforms and how to organize.

Readers, these are a great group of folks running Red State.

I bumped into Ms. Cheney and Victoria while they were waiting for their ride (funny I saw no SS) & had us a nice little chat.

    Two things,
I’m still in awe of what a gracious and intelligent woman she is and

As I told her. I hope she runs.

    She is off the charts.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

I can’t go three days without the whole place going loosey goosey.

    We lack discipline.

  • Leon H. Wolf

Oh, well. I knew he was a servant of Satan going in.

  • SteveLA

I haven’t scanned around much, but wonder if the RS event got any National press coverage?

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

from a bunch of VRWC, Obama bashing, lib hating, birther promoting (OK, that was Neokong), itinerant bloggers?

At least we didn’t crash the site. Well, not permanently anyway. We did slow it down some, lol :)

Glad you all had a great time. We’re looking forward to some pics and video. Thanks for all that in advance.

  • penguin2

You guys! I tell you, your spirit was strong and I would hear bits and pieces of what was happening on the site, so all of you were really with us. And we missed you too. As Erick is planning next year’s gathering already…

It was a great gathering. Outstanding speakers that you could listen to and believe. The speakers seemed interested in the RS community as well.

Erick, Caleb (apparently an events coordinator in another life), Neil, Moe, EPU, and most of the other contributors were there and they are awesome folks. It was also wonderful to meet some of the regular posters, but if I start naming names, I’ll forget someone and be annoyed with myself. I can just tell you that RS has robbed the talent store.

It is good to be back, and I’m sure diaries and stories will abound. Are you sure TNJim, you didn’t crash the site?

  • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

My Fri pm fun also involved a certain Charlotte Hen as well as the birther, libertarian, eclectic and angry old man you refer too!

    and threadjacks!

    to an Attorney.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

Most damage I did was to myself. I posted the wrong video in a diary (Hanging head in embarrassment).

Hope everyone had safe trips to and from Atlanta, dittos to those still in transit (or about to be).

Glad to see you back, penguin and everyone else. I imagine Erick and others will have some diaries up in a day or so discussing some plans of action we need to take over the course of the next 3 1/2 years, 2010 in particular in addition to the gathering itself.

As someone whose political experience has been limited to voting, listening to talk radio, and reading blogs, I appreciate what you at Redstate are doing to educate people like me.

Thanks to a column I read several months ago about becoming active in our local Republican group, I went online and printed the application, put it in an envelope, addressed it and left it sitting on my desk. I’m a school teacher so it sat on my desk for the two months of summer vacation. Last week I had to grab something from my classroom and saw the application sitting there. I put it in the mail immediately.

After listening to the informative speakers at the Redstate Gathering, I now know what to do next. I’m going to give the application a couple of days to get to our County leader and then I am going to call and find out if my precinct has a chairperson. If we do, I will attend the meetings and volunteer my efforts. If we don’t, I will volunteer for that position. I am also joining my local Republican Women’s group.

Thanks for the education, Redstate. Not only that but thanks for the opportunity to hear the speakers on Saturday. I took something positive away from each and every person that spoke.

My brother is trying to convince me to become actively involved in a third-party. I am trying to convince him that conservative, small-government people can take back the Republican Party.

Thanks so much to all who toiled to make this gathering possible. It meant a lot to me.

Now, where do I send my pics?

    Thank you all,
    Kelly

I took a bunch of pictures in the hallway and of some of the speakers (Neil and I were handing out badges for much of the morning, so I missed a couple of ‘em)

  • SteveLA

Well the RS leadership crew could have played the old “Special Mystery Guest” card with the Press. No mention of Salmon allowed….LOL

  • bs

Neil was hacking the planet from his blackberry.

  • bs

So there wasn’t much to report. Although I did go to bed around 12:30 this morning, unlike some people who closed down the hotel bar.

I may have missed some of the misbehavior…

  • MrsNachos

and remembers to charge her blackberry. :)

    So there.

  • SteveLA

    bs

At the risk of getting “them” started again, you could have claimed there was going to be a Obama birth certificate panel discussion. That ought to attract MSNBC for sure….LOL

Or was that the folks closing down the hotel bar were doing….Oh my.

  • MrsNachos

who wanted a card that I could not provide: http://blueshelled.com and http://twitter.com/blueshelled .

  • mom2oneson

The topic certainly came up in discussion, but mostly among some of us who would rather see the topic get thrown in the bit bucket.

You can bet that between Liz Cheney and “them”, that would have at least got the attention of the Kos Kidz. I think we pretty much flew under the trolldar.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

on the Kos Kidz that mentioned the gathering. The barbs in that one were slung at Erick. Something about it being hypocritical about suggesting public transportation be used in ATL…

    Don’t you know that’s socialism??

As you can imagine it went downhill from there…

I had a wonderful time networking with so many people. I got pictures with Marco Rubio, Michael Williams, Liz Cheney and Erick Erickson of RedState. It was a truly inspiring weekend. It was so amazing to be around all the great people who attended and spoke. One of the requirements for speakers was that they had to stay and interact with all us common folk…turned out they were more then happy because they were common folk too. The speakers didn’t use notes…or teleprompters…they simply spoke common sense from their heart out of love for their country.

For those who couldn’t attend this year, I hope to meet you next year.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

    WordPress logo and all

  • MrsNachos

I’ve about had it with your lip for the weekend. I will point you to vistaprint where I downloaded the card and put my last initial in which happened to be in a similar font to the wordpress logo. :P

Besides. That’s my professional card, not my blogger card, so there.

  • bs

    you’re not doing your job.

Glad to hear they were paying attention. Dan, Moe and I were talking this morning while riding MARTA – about how this first gathering was about the same size (maybe even bigger) as the first Kos meeting, once you factor in the site hit rates. They had about 1000 at their first meeting, yet their hit rate was probably at least 4x ours at that point. We had ~200-250

Given the fact that Caleb, Erick, etc. put this together in less than 3 months, it was a resounding success by virtually any measure. With next year being the election year where we recapture the House & Senate, it’ll be a perfect time to kick up the Redstate Gathering several notches. I can’t wait.

We gain advantage if they care more about us than we about them.

Nan from San Fran, Dingy Harry, and The Leader are our opposition, not hippy dorks online. They are the freak show, an amusing diversion. They are nothing and the actual Democrat leadership is what counts.

    So ignore the Kos kids.

It was good meeting the folks I met, and for those of you that didn’t meet me, I was the guy that was saying something that I’ve since found out is mistaken: NBA players aren’t guaranteed a salary of $1 million+ until they’ve been in the league at least six years. Still, everyone but NBA rookies are guaranteed a salary of >$500K, the amount that the government wants to limit the salaries of bailout companies’ CEOs to.

My overall point, however, is still valid: Fortune 500 CEOs do more for the economy and deserve to make more money than NBA players.
