Where is your Townhall?

We’re going to lock this calendar at the top of the site. I’m compiling all the townhalls into it.

Until it is locked up top, you can view it in this post. I’ll be adding a heck of a lot more data tomorrow.

According to the website and local office, here’s a draft of my letter( feedback is welcomed):

    Congressman McNerney,

Today I checked your website www.mcnerney.house.gov and called the Pleasanton office (925) 737-0727 and found out that you are not scheduled to hold a forum or town hall with your constituents to discuss the health care bill currently being debated in Washington. While District 11 covers areas of San Joaquin County, Contra Costa County, Alameda County and Santa Clara County, all primarily suburban or rural, your voting record is in lockstep with Representative and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of District 8 (San Francisco), a district far more liberal than ours.

Congressman McNerney, it seems odd that considering this district was held by a Republican from 1992 until your election in 2006, you would not want to hear the concerns of a constituency consisting of many moderate and conservative leaning voters. We are not San Francisco. I?m sure I speak for many when I say we need to ask questions and get answers from you regarding HR3200.

I will continue to check with your office and website.

    Sincerely,

    Me

It served as a reminder that I wanted to find out if Rep. David “what’s wrong with a little pork?” Price (D-NC4) would be holding any town hall meetings.

Didn’t find any information on the website (http://price.house.gov) but will try giving the office a call tomorrow. I suspect, though, being in his 11th term, he probably doesn’t feel the need to come and talk to us commoners…..

Just got an auto-call from Rep. Jay Inslee, (WA), asking me to “join him” in a conference call Townhall Meeting tomorrow night, regarding the healthcare issue. Laughed to myself and thought, yeah, you don’t want to go face to face with folks on this one and end up on Youtube, do you….

Apparently, his system calls my number, and I just stay on the line if I want to participate. Which begs the question of how they decided whom among the constituents to call?

  • George Claghorn

Sen. Murkowski will be holding four healthcare townhalls. They will be held in Fairbanks (August 13th), Anchorage (August 20th), Wasilla (August 28th), and Soldotna (August 29th).

The locations and times will be announced later.

Vic Snyder will have a townhall meeting at 1pm at the Chairman?s Hall in the Sturgis Building at Arkansas Children?s Hospital Wednesday 08/05/09.

However, it has been recommended that people not go to protest in anger due to the fact that there will be ill children and their families at the hospital. Snyder decided to hide in a hospital when he realized that he would face angry constituents.

He has not scheduled a townhall yet. Has a meeting with police group (ride along also) and business roundtable only.

  • DONTREADONME

I have been doing my ten minutes of googling to find out if Gerry Connolly the man that con me into thinking he was really undecided about the Cap and Tax bill has no formal townhall meeting scheduled.

The liberal Democrat Congressman from VA-11 conducted a phone townhall meeting yesterday according to the left-wing blogosphere. Apparently he had 11000 in attendance for that phoning-it-in conference, yeah right. Anyway, I will keep up to speed on the locations of our nutjob Congressman in a Purple county.

I did see a note on what appears to be a right leaning blog that we should have dates from a formal schedule of meetings at before the end of the month. I expect him to not conduct these meetings because PWC will most likely light him up regarding the single-payer free choice of death bill. The tide of sentiment in VA is starting to get hostile towards the President and the Democrats running the state. Now that private industry DoD contracts are being slashed and burned to replace with what they call “Insourcing”.

I’m sure it’s just a typo, but Ken Salazar was appointed as the Secretary of the Interior. Thus, as God saw fit, we were gifted Michael Bennett.

Also, for those of you in Colorado CD2, Jared Polis will be holding a meeting this Friday morning in Boulder.

Steve Kagen (D-WI) held his sessions earlier this week. Attendances was great! In both cases there were 100 or more concerned citizens waiting to get in. 400 to 500 showed up in both cases and the venues couldn’t support them.. My wife attended the Green Bay session, there was some thoughtful, researched opposition. Kagen wasn’t actually listening it became clear. In fact, an announcement was made at one point that he was going to do most of the talking. The Green Bay session wasn’t set up for people to talk to him. They didn’t have microphones or a process in place for questions. It turned into a shouting match as folks tried to communicate in-person with their elected official.

Reports are available (with limited video) here and here and here and here.

The theme in these reports is the “shouting match” nature of the meetings. What isn’t reporting on with any real thought into why the people are shouting.

Interestingly, a local group called Fox Valley Initiative organized a session to discuss heath care. Two hundred folks showed up.

The best the Left can come up with is to claim we’re astroturfing, organized, or somehow showing faux opposition. HA!! HA HA!! HA HA HA!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! Those claims make me laugh. Those funny kids can keep thinking that all they want.

    Sessions were here:

I’m an idiot. That was from 2008 (says so right in my comment).

    From Face The State

U.S. Reps. John Salazar and Betsy Markey, both Democrats, and Mike Coffman, a Republican, have not yet scheduled any town hall meetings for the August break, which runs Aug. 3 to Sept. 4. Staff for all three say dates and times will be announced shortly. A representative from Salazar?s Grand Junction office said they are ?currently gauging interest before deciding where to hold the meetings.?

Leading the pack with the most scheduled constituent meetings is Rep. Jared Polis, a Democrat representing the 2nd congressional district. He will host gatherings around his district August 7, 17, 19, 22 and Sept. 2 and 3. Rep. Doug Lamborn, a Colorado Springs Republican, has announced two meetings in Woodland Park and Chaffee County, August 18 and 25.

“But that’s exactly what Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota did when he told Politico why he doesn’t hold town meetings: “25 percent of my people believe the Pentagon and [former Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld (pictured at left) were responsible for taking the twin towers down.”

Now Peterson, a conservative Democrat, is scrambling to diffuse anger over the comments, the Star Tribune reports. Apologizing for what her called an “off-handed comment,” Peterson said he “certainly wasn’t trying to make fun of anyone.”

Now Peterson was obviously grasping for any excuse not to get blasted by constituents but he may be partially right. I don’t know what is in the water here in MN but I’m drinkin imported bottled water. From the state that gave you Al Franken.

As for his apology? Um another mis-calibration courtesy of Zero.

Staff indicated he would be “traveling through the district” and “not every event is open to the public.” I was referred to his site to sign up for his e-newsletter. Also, could post my “concerns or questions” about the health care bill on the site.

I politely pointed out that there is still a population group out there who do not use the computer or e-mail, noting that this group are the elderly. This group needed to have access and give and take with their congressman. Silence greeted that statement. They said they would let Nye know.

From WAPT: JACKSON, Miss. — Congressman Bennie Thompson has scheduled a town-hall meeting to discuss President Barack Obama?s health care proposal.

Thompson will host a forum in Jackson Aug. 24 at the Stringer Grand Lodge at 1072 J.R. Lynch St. He will also hold a town-hall meeting in Greenville on Aug. 25 at the Elks Lodge and on Aug. 26 in Greenwood, also at the Elks Lodge. All three meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

Congressman Gene Taylor has a regularly scheduled town-hall meeting for Monday Aug 17 at 6 p.m. at the Pelican Landing Conference Center, 6217 Highway 613 in Moss Point. His office said that health care can be discussed, but he will also cover other issues during the meeting.

Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and congressmen Travis Childers and Gregg Harper said they are planning forums, but nothing has been scheduled.
