Is Kay Bailey Hutchison the Republican Diane Feinstein?

Diane Feinstein is notorious for supporting greater funding for China and cooperation with Chicom military authorities because, in part, her husband makes millions of dollars dealing with China.

It’s not just China. Feinstein has made out like a bandit from the Iraq War too.

As chairperson and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee (MILCON) from 2001 through the end of 2005, Feinstein supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars a year for specific military construction projects. Two defense contractors whose interests were largely controlled by her husband, financier Richard C. Blum, benefited from decisions made by Feinstein as leader of this powerful subcommittee.

That’s what happens when you’ve been in the United States Senate for 17 years. Who else has been in the United States Senate for 17 years? Kay Bailey Hutchison. And guess what? Hutchison looks like she could be sending taxpayer dollars to her husband just as much as Diane Feinstein:

In 2007, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison boasted how she helped secure $700 million in federal funding to expand a mass transit line in Dallas. But here’s what she forgot to tell you: The law firm of her husband, Ray Hutchison, worked on the bond financing for the same project, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars in hourly fees.

In the long run-up before Hutchison officially announced her candidacy for governor this week, the popular GOP lawmaker has fended off criticism that as a member of the Senate appropriations committee, she helped dole out money to her husband’s deep-pocketed municipal clients.

That may be how they do things in Washington after 17 years of living there, but that’s now how they do things in Texas. The Washington way is not the Texas way, but that’s all Kay knows and that’s why she needs to be defeated.

I have never understood her argument for running against Governor Perry. Ooooh, he wants to serve a third term and needs to be defeated. She’s in her third term as a senator, and her terms are longer than his?!? I don’t understand the logic this woman is using to attack him.

Rick has a pretty good PR team.

I am sure they have storyboards in hand.

  • irishgirl

She has no logic, just her own personal agenda. I fired off an email to her reps and let them know what I thought, which is that the true conservatives here in Texas will let her know quickly she is not wanted. Rick Perry or not. I recommend everyone who feels this same way let her know it.

but the comparison to Feinstein is rather weak.

    The perfect description ….

Slip some Rick Perry campaign materials in the envelope and send it back.

  • ktsub

She is has been a great representative for Texas, BUT I do not see what Rick Perry has done wrong to vote against him. Its great we have such great options in Texas, she would also make a great Governor, though Rick Perry is a proven factor and great campaigner.

We know all her shenanigans, where this project is concerned. In fact it is old news down here. We actually have been waiting to see how Perry was going to use this in the campaign. If I can add another thought….we appreciate all the attention this race has been getting on Redstate, but the Texan in me compels me to say, politely, please butt out!! We can handle our own affairs, and I don’t think that sullying KBH, by comparing her to Diane Feinstien is anything we want to hear. She is no hero to the conservatives in this state, but Rick Perry is not either. He can be quite the RINO. So thanks for thinking about us, but leave the mudslinging to Perry and his goons….trust me they are quite good at it….

Perry is comfortable as the executive of the state of Texas. Might be good might not, but his national popularity has gained momentum. Hutchison had been comfortable in the US senate until more recent activity as listed has drawn negative attention and the nostalgia of happier days draws her back home.

As politics become more heated because of the ongoing unpleasantness on the national scale it is right to ask: Who is the better candidate? Who is the truer candidate?

Hope that these questions aren’t responded to with differing names.

  • irishgirl

I appreciate RS’s coverage of KBH. Rick Perry or not, KBH is not the one to fill his shoes. She is a moderate and we need a true conservative at the helm.

Why do you think they work so hard to get into office and then stay there? It is, and has always been, about the money. This is regardless of the party. It would be easier to name on one hand the politicians who haven’t dipped their hand in the cookie jar than try to figure out who did.

Shame on us for re-electing them to personal riches. It wasn’t meant to be this way.

  • jano4

And never will, to me she is the epitome of what is wrong with the Republican party these days….and Perry is not much better. If you are looking for a true conservative…take a look at Ms. Medina.

  • marshmom

The fact that she supports abortion and embryonic stem cell research. And, of course, she uses the weak excuse of “women’s rights” to parade her beliefs on these fronts.

  • irishgirl

Absolutely agree. And I will be checking out Ms. Medina as suggested above.
