Yesterday I told you guys I had a credible though unconfirmed rumor that Leon Panetta had sent his resignation letter up the Barack Obama’s vacation retreat.
Spencer Ackerman, not known to believe the government when ChimpyMcBushitlerHalliburton ran it, took the CIA’s denial at face value.
Likewise, George Little from the CIA emailed me this:
I read your post at redstate.com. I don’t know where these rumors are coming from, but they’re simply false. There’s nothing to them. If ever you hear this sort of thing, it’s always beneficial for accuracy purposes to contact us.
Now, I tend to take these things for face value and having the “Spokesman, CIA Office of Public Affairs” email to deny it suggests to me that there is nothing official happening.
But I am hearing from really good sources that Panetta is leaving. Brian Ross from ABC News is also reporting that Panetta is done. So perhaps a letter was not sent, but something seems to be happening and I’m told it is all related to Eric Holder’s latest actions.

Panetta is Done: He couldn't protect his Agency.
Section9 Thursday, August 27th at 10:09AM EST (link)This will have huge consequences as collegial agencies worldwide start to turn off the information tap to the Americans, convinced that we can’t keep a bloody secret. The Brits and the Israelis have probably shut us down already, I’ll bet, pending greater stability at Langley. They now see a President who is willing to use his own intelligence agency as a whipping boy in the middle of a war.
It’s all over now but the search for the Replacement.

Not 100% sure. It may be that the reason the official denials are continuing
The_Gadfly (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 10:17AM EST (link)and true is that Panetta hasn’t officially sent the letter and is fighting one last private battle. If he wins, the letter never gets sent, and they paper over Holder changing his tune on prosecutions. Of course, I think him winning is a very, very, very long shot. Which leaves only two questions:
1) Does Panetta really understand how vicious the Obama machine will be about grinding him into dust once he is gone?
2) Does anybody in the administration, including Hillary Clinton, have even the vaguest notion of how much damage will be done to the country when Panetta resigns?
Who's to say Hillary isn't fully aware and approves?
itsallverbatim (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 12:00PM EST (link)RedState readers already know that foreign policy, not his domestic agenda, will be Obama’s true undoing. The unsung losers of the 2008 election are trying to accelerate that. Not for nefarious or conspiratorial purposes; nay, this is purely political retribution.
We’re witnessing a public disconnect between the Clintonistas and the newer, hipper Obama-era Democratic staffer and appointees (most of the National Security Council, the AG and his deputies, the DNI and Homeland Security and her deputies are all in Obama’s pocket.)
Hillary, Panetta and the diehard, Jacksonian Democrats who share one bond – being Clintonistas – don’t like or agree with Obama and Rahm’s foreign policy, treatment of the CIA and marginalization of Hillary herself.
They are working from within to slow things down but patience has worn thin. They were trying to work from inside but now they’re hand has been forced by this investigation. Remember that rendition and EIT’s (most “dark” CIA or DIA counterterrorism policy, actually) originated in the Clinton Administration.
Richard Clarke and John Brennan know where the skeletons are buried. But so do Tenet, Goss, and Hayden. Much is said of the high turnover of CIA directors but the fact remains: the deputies and their deputies never left and also know where the skeletons are buried. That entire group I mentioned above are enraged and want to exact political revenge on Obama for authorizing Holder to launch this probe.
Panetta quitting (going public) makes him a useful patsy to rewrite the history of where the rendition and interrogation programs originated from, and has a side bonus of making Obama look weak on defense and foreign policy by investigating the CIA. Look for well placed leaks and revelations from witihin. Look for angry clandestine/paramilitary officers of the CIA to leak plots foiled in the US (like Los Angeles, there are others). And look for concrete proof we have had #2 and possibly #1 in our sights within the past…say, year to six months and no one authorized deadly action, by CIA or JSOC.
This will be interesting. The establishment factions of the government that deal with intelligence, defense and foreign policy have aligned. They have two goals: Destroy his Presidency and defend America. Commitment to the latter requires action on the former. And they’re taking action.
NObama's War On AmeriKKKa Needs A Demoralized CIA
Ausonius (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 1:08PM EST (link)I have wondered in my various writings here throughout the months, if NObama is really the radical ideologue, or if any kind of “practical politciking” can be deduced from his actions.
It might seem that NObama is trying to “distract attention” away from Hell-th Care by investigating supposed CIA abuses from 6 or 7 years ago. But that is so obvious, and the NObama group is not that stupid, even though it might seem like “practical politicking.”
Since the result is so obviously transparent, one can only conclude that NObama really does want to investigate and demoralize the CIA !!!
And why would he do that? Because as an anti-American ideologue he does not believe in American defense. I will refer you to the famous video now on YouTube where he is promising to slow down or eliminate defensive weapons systems. The Eastern Europeans will receive no missile defense shield. He insults the Israelis, while playing footsy with the Iranians. “Victory” is a word to be avoided in Afghanistan: is it any wonder Americans are beginning to wonder why we bother with Afghanistan, if its president is not interested in victory? He bows before Islamic kings, gives speeches with distorted and lying “facts” from history about the wonders of Islam, and in general apologizes worldwide for the existence of the racist, imperialist U.S.A.
So…
By demoralizing intelligence agencies, and restricting them further, he opens us up to attacks or at least dominance from other countries or 3rd World movements, and he knows this!!!
And why?
Because Amerikkka is the enemy! And it needs to be taught a lesson.

The Temptation of Using the CIA Domestically
Ausonius (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 5:31PM EST (link)is a Nixonian mistake, which NObama and company no doubt think they are above, given their arrogance.
Are you suggesting that NObama may put his own people in the CIA for domestic control over more areas?
The armed pick-up trucks throughout the country will have something to say about that! One would need to wonder how many government/military people would refuse to follow orders.

I have to believe, no, he can't turn CIA against Americans
Erick Brockway (Diary) Friday, August 28th at 12:51AM EST (link)Only because to believe he could do it would be to believe the CIA has no good people who love their country and know right from wrong; a lawful order from an unlawful one.
Being in the US Military, I could also be ordered to fire on unarmed US civilians; if I did so, I should be hung as well as the one giving the unlawful order.
Now could they institutionally be changed over a period of years to believe liberal ideology and radical dogma?
That’s where you and I come in. We have to keep up the fight to educate those worth saving that the rest are actually doing this country harm.
CIA, Homeland Security, FBI, etc all all the same folks that protected us over the last 8 years, I have to believe in my heart of hearts that they will continue to do so despite the one currently serving as President.

Actually, I think Obama is trying to set up his own cadre
civil truth (Diary) Friday, August 28th at 12:58AM EST (link)He’s in the process of creating a parallel intelligence system accountable only to him that he will be able to unleash for his purposes as it is untethered from Congressional or judicial oversight or control. Along with the other cadres he’s setting up like his civilian defense force or his report your neighbors efforts.
Thus I think his efforts are to bring down the CIA so as to take out a rival power base.
At least that’s what I think in my more conspiratorial moods.

A third, and perhaps more likely option. . . .
Sundayjack (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 10:58AM EST (link)Is that Leon Panetta – a political animule – appreciates just how devastating this would be to the young administration, so just FLOATING it is enough. I imagine he’s read enough briefings about psy-ops in the last six months. Holder then gets a call from Rahm with orders to “fix this,” and suddenly the investigation is adjusted. Leon wins twice – first by becoming a hero in his own office, and then by putting his thing down on the ambitious and eager Eric Holder.
What other leverage does Leon have? And there’s just no way Rahm would sit lightly and watch this play out.

The problem with that is
The_Gadfly (Diary) Thursday, August 27th at 5:14PM EST (link)I don’t picture Holder going out on his own to do this. I picture Holder, Rahm, and The Big 0 as all together on this one. I don’t think they really see the problems with it. And having dealt with these types way back when, for all they pride themselves on being individuals, not a one of them actually makes a decision without confirming it first with the rest of the group. So they’re all clueless together and setting policy. In some ways they are a lot like Robert Redford at the end of The Candidate: ‘We won? Now what?’ Only in the movie he was at least only a senator which somewhat limited the damage he could do.
