Joe Wilson: Great American Hero! Bob Bennett: Unrepentant Fool

Joe Wilson has been identified as the Republican who yelled out that Barack Obama was a liar.

He gets a drink on me!

CONTRIBUTE TO JOE WILSON HERE. Joe Wilson’s opponent raised $11,000.00 in an hour after Joe Wilson stood up to Barack Obama. We must help Joe Wilson.

Bob Bennett (RINO-UT) was the only Republican who stood up and clapped when Barack Obama bashed Sarah Palin over the death panels. That jackass should be taken out in a primary.

There is a time and place for partisan rancor but this was not place. I would have been offended had someone yelled liar to a Republican President while addressing a joint session of Congress and I was in this case.

I wish it had not happened as it will now be the focus of the media as more proof of the uncivil Republicans.

  • bs

We should put it on the FP.

  • bs

    It deserved a partisan response.

  • tankertodd

Man I was just thinking as I was watching what I would do if I were a Congressman. I would yell something like that if appropriate – calling him out on a boldfaced lie is appropriate – and then I’d apologize profusely after the fact. The President is the President, and there is decorum to the government. You should apologize.

But you should NOT stand by idly as your country is destroyed, as the Constitution is violated by the very people sworn to uphold it.

  • MSU_Charles

Hell I’lll buy him a steak! I’m serious.

It’s about time that we start calling them like they are. We better get tough quickly on this. We need about 3 to 4 key proposals (talking points) and keep pounding them.

    1. Interstate Commerce of Insurance
    2. Tort Reform
    3. Tax Subsidies for those under certain income levels
    4. I know everyone doesn’t agree, but I would allow shopping for pharmaceuticals in Canada.

Some simple yet powerful ideas, such as, but not limited to these.

No fight has ever been more important than this one!

I understand that you respect the office not the person but….

    well…

for starters he’s acting like a dictator not a President. He wasn’t even bothering to debate his opponents points – just flatly AND UNTRUTHFULLY called them liars.

Has any President in the history of our country EVER tried to deceive the American people so blatantly and to such an extremity?

Can we count on the media to do their jobs and report all his lies?? That’s a negative. Somebody had to do it.

but I’ll be voting for whichever Republican candidate appears to have the best chance of taking down Senator Bennett in the primary. I have had it with this man.

He promised us two terms and no more when he first ran. He is gearing up for his fourth. He does not represent me or my conservative views.

I know he has a large campaign chest and is a formidable incumbent, but we did it to Cannon in 2008 (Chaffetz is fantastic) and I believe the people are ready to throw this bum out in 2010.

  • jamestn1

Just as Rush forced the MSM to put the words “Obama” and “Fail” in the same sentence, Joe has paired the words “Obama” and “Liar”. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Obama, Liar. Now you try it. Feels right, doesn’t it.

  • http://www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com SoFiMil

(which it was), rather than Wilson’s heckling.

After all, Obama explictly called his detractors “liars.” Still, have to come down on the “that’s not appropriate” camp, The Rush analogy doesn’t work for me. Wilson could have called Obama a liar both before and after Obama’s speech.

  • bantamwait

Joe Wilson did not do the conservative movement any favors tonight. Leave the demonstrations in the capitol to Code Pink. A joint session of congress is not a tea party. Erick was dead on in his critique of Boustany; the sour pusses on the GOP members whenever the camera panned the right of the chamber (whcih fortunately was not frequent) did even more damage. Bad grace is always unattractive; more to the point, it’s bad politics.

  • E Pluribus Unum

by this president, his administration, his czars, and his flunkies.

Tough crap for Obama. He should not have called a joint session just to give a fracking campaign speech. It is not the job of an elected Congressman to sit there and get berated and lied about by the president. Very, very bad form, and anything goes.

Remember, 52% of Americans have had it up to their collective arse with this shuck-and-jive plan from this charlatan.

A whole, whole, whole, WHOLE bunch of Americans are proud of a man who stood up and gave his accounting.

All the moderate Republicans, MSRP, and pet ‘conservative’ hacks are probably barfing up their supper, and they’re welcome to it.

This is war now. That punk president called a joint session of Congress to give an extreme-left partisan lecture which included false accusations and obvious, outright lies.

Joint sessions are reserved for important national emergencies or the annual SOTU. Nothing else. Obama deserved this slapdown, and regular Americans all over had a proud moment.

Had he waited before or after, “YOU LIE! would not be the headline on Drudge right now and millions of people would not be examining Obama’s truthiness as closely as they are and will be. “Fail” and “liar” are powerful in that they are significantly more base than “socialist” or “radical” and therefore significantly more effective than any GOP ‘response’ (yawn).

  • publiussteve

THANK YOU REP. WILSON for pointing out President Obama’s continued deception on the Democrats’ health care scheme and illegal aliens. Obama and the Democrats keep claiming — yes lying — that their scheme will not cover illegals. While HR 3200 does say this in the bill, there are no verification mechanisms. This huge loophole is no doubt by design. The Congressional Research Service states:

?Under H.R. 3200, a ?Health Insurance Exchange? would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option?H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens?whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently?participating in the Exchange.”

  • http://brockwayfamily.spaces.live.com/ Erick Brockway

It it’s the latter he needs to fire somebody for not telling him that HR3200 Section 246 has no teeth. There was an attempt by Nathan Deal to introduce an amendment, but as you see it was voted down. Amendment text (as .pdf) here.

and for that, why should he apologize. It’s telling the truth anyways. Personally, we should all have the courage to tell the truth when we a lie happening.

  • billyd

Unfortunatly, Joe Wilson apologized a little to fast. He should have waited for the media to get all their panties in a bunch. Let them sweat for a while and get all worked up. The called a press conference to “Apologize” and while apologizing, stated that he got all worked up because an amendment to HR3200 that would assure that illegals did not get coverage was struck down by the democrats in the house. And unfortunatly, the presidents statement that illegals wouldn’t be covered, isn’t accurate, as there currently is no way to prevent or enforce the restrictions the president mentioned. And then that he regrets being so emotional and blurting out his comments. But the fact is… The President lied.

  • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

Should members of congress yell out “liar” to a president who is telling lies? Yes, I think they should. When they are lying. Obama was lying.

Later, after yelling “Liar!” to a lying president just after he uttered a lie, the shouter “apologizes” thusly: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.”

My emotions got the best of me. Understandable.

I disagree with the president’s statement. True.

I guess I shouldn’t have said what I said under the circumstances. I could have said it after the address rather than during it on live national television.

So I was uncivil and I apologize. Whoop dee do.

The main thing is that on live national television millions of Americans got to hear someone, finally, call an inveterate liar a liar.

Now if we could only get more people to do the same.

    Thank you.

    ColdWarrior

  • Achance

Go home and ask the district what they think. After Brooks caned Sumner, he resigned and ran for the seat again. Re-elected overwhelmingly, he didn’t have to apologize.

  • Joe_Cor

might have been to apologize to the Congress and the American people for a lack of decorum, but not back down from the statement that Obama is a liar. And to demand that the President stop lying, and list all the instances where he is lying (funding for abortions, rationing, health care for illegals, death panels, etc.). And, as long as the subject of “civility” has come up, to call on the President to stop his most uncivil, malicious prosecution of people from the Bush administration who did a thankless job for eight years to keep this country safe. And to stop hiring people in his administration who engage in uncivil, malicious attacks on the integrity of GWB, like Van Jones. And stop his most uncivil yucking it up when comedians make hateful jokes about Dick Cheney. And stop his own telling of uncivil, tasteless jokes about Dick Cheney at White House correspondents dinners. And stop hanging out with people who engaged in the most uncivil practice of blowing up buildings in the 1960s. And to stop the most uncivil practice of placing babies who survive late term abortions on shelves in hospital closets to die. And to stop telling his supporters to engage in the most uncivil practice of “getting in the face” of people who disagree with him. And to stop the most uncivil practice of trashing ordinary Americans for clinging to their “guns and religion.” And to stop his most uncivil practice of attending a church run by a racist, anti-American lunatic, and most uncivilly choosing this man to be his spiritual adviser.

Or something kind of along those lines.

I guess I don?t know what the technical definition of a RINO is. But I know I have found enough things out about Shurtleff that I cannot support him. I think that taking a tough stance against illegal immigration is one of the most important issues, because this problem has national security implications. Along with supporting drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, he also has supported illegal immigrants being able to receive in state tuition at Utah colleges. Making someone who is in the country illegally able to go to school cheaper than a U.S. citizen from out of state. He has also supported hate crimes legislation. He supported a shield law in Utah to protect the news media from being forced in court to reveal their sources. I think this is an important thing to consider on the national stage with the New York Times constantly revealing our nation?s secrets.

Also, I don?t believe he is honest. In 2004 Utah had an amendment to it?s Constitution banning gay marriage and civil unions. In 2004 he said that the civil unions portion of the amendment was potentially unconstitutional. In 2009, he says that the amendment is not a matter for the courts because the people have spoken. This shows his lack of honesty as he changes his positions depending on political expediency.

“Bad grace is always unattractive…and bad politics”

Joe Wilson called Obama a liar once – with cause. Obama called Republicans liars how many times? blamed Republicans how many different ways? Bashed his predecessor when it was totally off topic for how long?

Obama came off as an angry, inflexible, fear mongering, ultra partisan jerk tonight and anyone who has done any independent research at all knows he was lying. It didn’t even have much of his typical vapidly soaring rhetoric. just the same, stale boring lies he’s been telling for months but with Pelosi leading a standing ovation everytime he cleared his throat.

This was a speech to fire up his party and rally the base – I don’t see him getting many converts. Especially not if folks fact check him.

I saw everything all of you saw and I even shouted liar among others things to my TV several times. And yes George Bush endured much worse disrespect. However I would never scream “liar” to the President of the United States while he/she is addressing Congress … especially from a Member of Congress. Joe Wilson could have waited until the speech was over and then screamed liar to every reporter he could find and that would be perfectly fine. Obama shames and tarnishes his office with just about ever utterance but that does not mean we have to.

gives the POTUS and Congress the right to take property by government fiat away from auto dealers who have owned their property for generations; or the part of the Constitution that authorizes them to nationalize our health care system.

    That should do for starters.

  • Ausonius

Obviously we would prefer McCain over NObama, and any real conservative over McCain.

The problem with compromisers is that a compromise with evil is still an evil act. It is similar to the cliched “lesser of two evils” choice: morally you cannot choose the lesser of two evils…because it is still evil!

On Wilson’s apology: you knew it had to happen, but I would have preferred:

“I apologize for my lack of decorum, and I await Mr. Obama’s apology for all the lies he told last night.”

  • mschmitt

Well, inasmuch as the Democrats themselves have now declared health care/insurance a “Right”; I think, by their own politicking, all health legislation should now fall under the scope of the 10th Amendment and hence be beyond Congresses Constitutional authority entirely.

Secondly, we have a right to life and liberty guaranteed under the Preamble, “[to] secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity…”. Any Federal action which might abrogate that for any reason, even the “common good” (whatever that means to you), is thus unconstitutional.

… And by the way, the stale counter argument about insurance companies doing the same thing now may sure sounds good on paper, but insurance companies can’t tax or jail us; in fact, today we can fire them without a single gun (a nice letter will usually suffice).

Any “reform” at all which eliminates your ability to choose your own health/health insurance plans is ultimately an Unconstitutional power grab (since, even if there is no public option, Congress has taken the power to dictate terms of health plans and will fine you for failing to buy the precise insurance it wants you to have).

  • Right_Again

the way the left feels about Sarah Palin.

    An apology from Obama…

I’m not holding my breath. This is a man who believes his own lies and is furious that we do not.

  • fireplug52

I can understand him apologizing for the outburst, but I give him a big thumbs up because many of us were sitting at home thinking or saying the same thing. Wilson at least had bigger testicles than the other Republicans to speak what we already know.

  • jccbin

and challenged Obama, point for point.

Joe Wilson! I may move to SC to vote for the guy!

  • AceInTX

We don’t have to lie…but I think the time has long since passed when we should be genteel and polite with ally cats and street thugs…

Give em as good as er get as often as they give it to us and watch them fall to pieces…it’s the only way you’ll ever defeat them!

  • tampatraveler

Joe Wilson’s outburst was indeed inappropriate solely because of where it took place. Don?t forget – - just before this occurred Barack Obama called Sara Palin a “Liar” (Death Panel Comment). True to form, John McCain ducked back into the alley and allowed his selected VP running mate to be verbally assaulted. Where is the man?s decency? John McCain is such a disappointment – - He sadly is in self glorification and political preservation mode! What a shame!!

  • penguin2

As an individual, he is arrogant and condescending. Remember, leftists never apologize, they don’t ever believe they are ever wrong. Their mind set is always “for thee, but not for me.” IMO,

I just heard on FOX and Friends that Wilson’s opponent received 300 donations since last night, totalling 100,000. Interesting how quickly they got that out. One, I don’t know if I really believe it, but I bet Wilson’s campaign also received donations.

Every Republican in that room should have been thinking the same thing. I see Mr. Wilson as apologizing for the deed, not the thought.

  • http://aposematic.wordpress.com aposematic

Obama has been screaming fire in a movie theater since first becoming a community “hate America by exploiting the little people” organizer.

Finally, one person in Congress, Joe Wilson, had the balls to scream the truth.

Joe Wilson is a true American hero!

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

Joe Wilson ends up being the better man if Barack Obama doesn’t.

  • http://aposematic.wordpress.com aposematic

If I could say it better than Joe, I would!

  • http://aposematic.wordpress.com aposematic

Any appology for telling the truth about a pathologic liar like Obama should be done by the MSM since they have yet to tell the truth about Obama.

  • proudgop

Wilson said right thing not sure it was right time although

That said I heard Wilson’s congressional website crashed. The left was saying they were going to do that

  • http://aposematic.wordpress.com aposematic

I understand that the worst thing any politician can do to another politician is to tell the truth about them…but:

No man should ever feel he should appologize for telling the truth.

  • Gigi

I don’t live in his state, but had to say thanks to the man. Yes, it was a breach of protocol, but government health care is a hell of a lot more dangerous than an outspoken, truthful statement in Congress. I wish he hadn’t apologized though. The Dems who treated W. so poorly certainly didn’t. I am tired of having to play by the rules when the Dems use the rule book as toilet paper.

  • Gigi

Wish I was able to be there!

We need to make sure Wilson has enough funds to get re-elected. I heard his dem opponent got over $100K in campaign donationst. This is the kind of conservative we need in congress. Not the spineless McCain, McConnell and Graham

  • bub

If he had shouted it out at President George Bush when he was knowing lying the country into a war.

Right act, just six years too late.

I would love to blame it on dyslexia….

We could use Rasmussen, aka the *accurate* pollster.

53% oppose it (41% strongly oppose).
44% support it. (27% strongly support)
    3% don’t know.

And I don’t mean to say I don’t care about what independents think, I’m just saying it’s well past time to call it like it is, and quit playing by Hoyle’s rules while they play by Alinsky’s rules. Screw them.

  • Aaron Gardner

Seriously…I was just looking at Rasmussen’s numbers. At least he didn’t link to the CNN poll that was weighted heavily to Dems.

  • http://www.nixonsghost.wordpress.com hondav65

Just pulled the trigger on a generous contribution to Joe’s next campaign.

I pledge to do likewise for any Republican OR DEMOCRAT who acts up in a similar manner to oppose Obama’s fascism!

  • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

Joe Wilson, by a single shout of “You Lie!”, has changed the debate. The debate now is about the lies Obama routinely tells. Now we must keep the ball rolling. We must challenge every lie of Obama’s.

Here’s a site that is compiling the lies:

    http://obamalies.net/

Here’s an article that appeared in Forbes a while back about Obama’s top five lies about Obamacare:

    http://www.forbes.com/2009/06/30/obama-health-care-reform-opinions-columnists-public-option-medicare.html?partner=popstories

A list of his top 100 lies, blunders and gaffes of his first 100 days as president:

    http://www.humblelibertarian.com/2009/04/first-100-days-list-of-100-of-obamas.html

    There are many others.

The bottom line is we must continue to point out to the American people, because the mainstream media will not tell them, that we have a president who lies, lies, lies as do all of the people who advise him. And as do all the Debtocrats.

    Thank you.

Be it health care or anything else? Auto insurance doesn’t apply, if you don’t have auto insurance you cannot use your privelege to drive, no issue. Forcing us to purchase health insurance because they said we had to? Farther down that slippery slope is forcing us to own a copy of “An Inconvienient Truth” or BO’s books.

Then of course there are the czars, that needs to be better defined, personally I think they are an obvious skirting of the spirit of the Constitution but the Const. doesn’t define who must be approved and who doesn’t, Legislators truly concerned with the Const. would be pushing legislation that would further define who and why, possibly based on monetary responsibility, percieved power etc.

Many things have happened during the last 6 years. We can’t change a single one of them. The issue of the day, now, is health care. We CAN change the direction that takes. Is this making any sense?

President Obama has told us time and time again that he’s a forward looking politician. Funny, then, that him and his supporters don’t look forward.

  • randy streu

    yawn.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

When they have nothing else to support their arguments, they resort to BushLied(tm)

I think this is going to cream Obama’s reelection more than anything else. He’s going to try to ride through his whole first term blaming Bush for everything.

  • http://ja-js.blogtownhall.com rmekrnl

…because just shouting out like that in that setting was not only indecorous but also impolitic. Now, Wilson’s given Obama, his mouthpiece Gibbs, Prancy Nancy Pelosi, Rabid Harry Reid and any and all other Dems who want to appear superior and “civil” an example to point to about how “uncivil” and “unhelpful” the Repubs are. Plus, they can use it as a distraction from what we all should really be keeping our focus on — which is what the Dems are SAYING versus what they’re DOING.

BUT, Wilson should have made it one of those “nonapology” apologies, you know, like DHS Secy Napolitano did when she called our vets and anyone else who disagrees with Obama “right-wing domestic terrorists” and then later said she was sorry if WE took it the wrong way. That’s not really an apology. An apology would have been: I did or said something stupid and I’m sorry I did that.

SO, Wilson should have simply issued a press statement saying he regrets his passion for the truth caused him to blurt out that the president was lying in that setting and at that time, and he’s sorry if the president was offended, and just let it go at that. No more apology, no more “explanation,” no more anything. End of story.

We are fast becoming “experts” in (political) apologetics … in an excellent and fair manner.

    Keep it up, guys!!!!!

We need this kind of wisdom in the many battles ahead against the liberals.
