Barack Obama Did Lie in His Speech: He Got the Facts Wrong In His Tear Jerker Story
Be sure to read this one. Apparently you can get the compelling facts of the story wrong as long as you get the “essence” of the story right. Well, you can if you are Barack Obama.
Remember the tear jerker horror story of malicious insurance companies he told last week?
President Barack Obama, seeking to make a case for health-insurance regulation, told a poignant story to a joint session of Congress last week. An Illinois man getting chemotherapy was dropped from his insurance plan when his insurer discovered an unreported gallstone the patient hadn’t known about.
“They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it,” the president said in the nationally televised address.
There’s just one problem. The story Obama told is not true.
Obama aides say the president got the essence of the story correct. Mr. Raddatz was dropped from his insurance plan weeks before a scheduled stem-cell transplant.
Except not really. Mr. Raddatz’s sister testified before Congress that Mr. Raddatz got a life saving treatment that extended his life for three years. And the insurance company covered it.
