It Is Time To Go To DEFCON 1. Bob Bennett Is About to Screw America.

Meet Bob Bennett. He is a Republican United States Senator. He is up for re-election next year.

Bob Bennett is about to screw America.

Bob Bennett is a fiscally irresponsible Senator who prides himself on being a Senator’s Senator. He was the only Republican who stood up and clapped when Barack Obama attacked Sarah Palin in his Joint Session of Congress speech last week.

And Bob Bennett wants to cut a deal on healthcare. Why? Because that’s what Senators do. They compromise. And if you are a Republican Senator, you capitulate.

Bob Bennett is working with Ron Wyden of Oregon on a healthcare alternative. They’ve proposed this plan for a while. The plan is terrible. As the Heritage Foundation correctly notes:

despite many attractive tax reform aspects, a troubling feature of the bill is that it would replace the current health system with one that is heavily regulated by the federal government: Individuals would have access only to plans permitted by the government and would be required to purchase such a plan.

Likewise, the Wyden-Bennett plan supports abortion funding, imposes federal mandates on citizens to have insurance, increases federal regulation, and cripples the several states.

From the Heritage Foundation (PDF):

The proposal’s major problems are rooted in its sweeping and heavy-handed federal control over the insurance markets and its replace- ment of one tax inequity with another. Beyond these shortcomings are other unpleasant policy surprises such as the establishment of Medicare pricing over prescription drugs, permitting prescription drug reimportation, and even mandating that health insurers must cover abortion services.

This is Bob Bennett’s pet snake. He wants to wrap it around the American public and constrict us while championing his having done something.

And today, Barack Obama called Bob Bennett and Ron Wyden to the White House to chat. One guess what that’s about.

Bob Bennett is going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory just so he can feel good about his legislative record.

Did I mention he’s up for re-election next year?

In his defense, it's tough to get elected as a Republican in Utah

He is facing a tough challenge.

Utah AG Mark Shurtleff (R) has announced that he will contend for Bennett’s seat. Bennet will be hard pressed to beat him I think. At the April Tea Parties in SLC there was no love for either Hatch or Bennett.

The problem though is that I think Bennett sees the writing on the wall, and wants to go down with his ship, as it were.

Shurtleff is not much better

dblagent007 Wednesday, September 16th at 5:33PM EDT (link)

Shurtleff’s biggest donors are the same people that he is investigating.

Both Bennet and Shurtleff suck. We need a real conservative.

Time to flush.

Bennett = Traitor

If this is true, I can’t do any less than agree with Dan. We have to find someone to take on this snake. Uncommon’s idea of getting Shurtleff to run could be a winner…I’ve heard good things about him, but would have to look more into his record before recommending him.

Regardless, Bennett is going limp-wristed at exactly the wrong time.

Not my Idea

UncommonRight Thursday, September 17th at 12:03PM EDT (link)

Shurtleff is not my idea, he has already announced his challenge. I was just pointing that out. I am not entirely sold on Shurtleff either.

How about Josh Romney?

We got rid of Congressman Cannon. Bob Bennett is next.

I appreciate the tea party movement so much just for the galvanizing effect it is having on non-liberals. We are determined to clean house not just of corrupt Democrats who vote counter to our interests and values but also Republicans who are and do the same.

I am still not entirely sold on Mark Shurtleff, but I will vote for him over Bennett just for the hope of new blood.

Won't BennettCare Have Already Passed By Then?

2010, my arse. We need to make sure nothing passes. Nothing.

Obama's taken a bite too big to chew

Right_Again Wednesday, September 16th at 7:32PM EDT (link)

By demanding that Congress pass comprehensive health care reform he has bitten off more than he can chew. He had the opportunity last Wednesday to say, “I’ve heard America speak over the last few weeks and we need to slow down and rethink health care reform.” Instead it was full speed ahead.

But comprehensive reform includes or leaves out something to anger everyone. Almost everyone in the House and Senate has drawn their own line in the sand. Fortunately for us, those lines are so different for large groups that it will be nearly impossible for them to reach an agreement that angers few enough congressmen to pass.

Obama has been playing a shell game promising us there really is a pea under each shell. His plan will 1) cover everyone, 2) maintain or improve your health care, and 3) will not increase the deficit one dime. It’s time we make him show us what’s under those shells.

I called Bennett's office

dblagent007 Wednesday, September 16th at 5:38PM EDT (link)

The staffer that answered swore up and down that Bennett’s health care reform was conservative through and through.

I asked him if Bennett and Wyden meth with Obama today. He said no. I told him that I read a report that he had. I was put on hold for a few minutes. The staffer then told me that he didn’t have any information about that, but if Bennett did meet with Obama, it would be disclosed in a press release tomorrow (if that isn’t admiting that they met, I don’t know what is).

I told him that BO has never supported anything conservative in his entire life. If they agree to a health care deal, then we know it is not conservative regardless of what he told me at the beginning of the call. He agreed with that point.

I ended the call by making it very clear that we would kick Bennett’s butt out of the Senate if he cuts any kind of health care deal with BO. What a freakin idiot.

Senator Bob Bennett (Utah) and choices

The best conservative choice against Senator Bennett isn’t another attorney and 3 term incumbent A.G.,

the best choice is Cherilyn Eagar for US Senate

I know nothing about her

dblagent007 Wednesday, September 16th at 6:01PM EDT (link)

The one thing she really has going for her is that she is not Bennett or Shurtleff. That is a real head start.

She needs to get her name out there more. I have never heard of her and I live in Utah.

Eagar

dhorowitz3 Wednesday, September 16th at 9:03PM EDT (link)

She needs to get more exposure. There is no reason why we cant have a rock solid conservative in Utah. She needs to get her name out with the other conservatives running for senate.

This is great

Right_Again Wednesday, September 16th at 11:15PM EDT (link)

Thanks for the links. Cherilyn already hold more appeal for me than Shurtleff. See if you can get her to post on this site to boost name recognition.

I’m for whichever conservative candidate can beat Bennett. Jason Chaffetz showed the way to knock off an entrenched incumbent. Bennett seems determined to thumb his nose at us. He needs to be thrown out with all the other arrogant bums next year.

And yet...

In March of this year Senator Bob Bennett was rated one of the ten most liberal Republicans in the Senate by Human Events based on the American Conservative Union Ratings for 2008. Why Bennett would pay money to convince voters he is Conservative is beyond me.

It's what they all do...Dems and moderate Repubs included..Talk Conservative to get elected...vote Liberal once in office!

Utah is the most conservative state in the U.S., period. If he goes along with ObamaCare in any way, he’s guaranteed get knocked out in the primary and his career in politics is over.

In fact, if ANY Republican goes along with this, they’ll be ending their career. I think even RINOs like Snowe and Collins know this. I can tolerate moderate Republicans that sometimes stray off the reservation in liberal states, but any Republican that supports socialized medicine needs to be replaced, even if that means a Democrat gets elected in their place.

Is Bennett running for re-election?

RJD Wednesday, September 16th at 8:28PM EDT (link)

Does he have plans or intentions of retaining his seat? If he does not, then he has nothing to lose. If he does, then he feels too save and secure in his current position.

Um....yes.

Are you being a smarty-pants, or did you not read the original post? The fact that he IS up for re-election in 2010 was mentioned no less than twice.

What about Matheson?

I’m surprised there isn’t more effort to get rid of *Democrat* Jim Matheson in the Utah 2nd, than Senator Bennett (or for that matter Chris Cannon in the Utah 3rd last time round).
