We should pay attention to this story, though it is flying under the radar.
It seems the feds are investigating whether a union boss who is also a government employee campaigned for Barack Obama while on the clock at a government facility.
The U.S. Office of Special Counsel is probing whether Ronald Demicheli improperly taped a video criticizing 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain in an office at the National Energy Technology Laboratory near Pittsburgh, said Ward Morrow, a lawyer for the American Federation of Government Employees.

Achance Tuesday, September 22nd at 3:52PM EDT (link)It is very common in the public sector for the labor agreement to include provisions giving the union an office in the government’s building, a government computer, access to the government’s networks and other telecommunications, paid time for union work for officers and stewards, paid time for union “training” - I can go on awhile.
It may well be that the union will win that ULP. And just for the record, the only things like that that unions get in Alaska is nine hours a month for shop steward activities and they damn well didn’t get that on my watch!
