Creigh Deeds’ Desperation Grows. Staffer Goes After Sign Holder.

As Creigh Deeds’s campaign continues flaming out, he and his staff are growing more desperate.

At a rally in Northern Virginia, someone was holding up a “What About Taxes” sign. A Deeds staffer went after the guy.

I mean, how dare anyone ask Creigh Deeds tough questions. If Deeds had an “R” next to his name, this would be a multi-day front page story in the Washington Post.

and Geraghty also has another insiders view article about the McDonnell/Deeds race-

    HORSERACE

Avalanche of Mud Predicted in Virginia

One of the sharp guys I turn to for insight in Virginia state politics ? who talks to some well-connected Democrats in the commonwealth as well ? has shared some more thoughts.

First, he hears that the Democrats put a lot of stock in Rasmussen’s latest, and that a nine-point McDonnell win would be a blowout of epic proportions that will also solidify Republican control of the House of Delegates. It will also likely lead to one or two defections in the senate, which would give the GOP complete control of Virginia, at least for the next two years.

That kind of control would enable Republicans to draw redistricting maps to strengthen their position in Richmond and to shape the congressional districts that will need to drawn in Northern Virginia. Redistricting (and to a lesser degree, the courts) is what it is all about.

He adds that because the stakes are so high, there is no chance that either state or national Democrats will take this sitting down. He dismisses the rumor that the DNC was thinking of holding back some money. He suspects they are sitting on their resources to use it in a vicious smear attack that will begin in earnest when next week’s polling numbers look even more bleak than the current ones. He suspects it will be sustained, ugly, and upsetting. There is simply too much at stake. The only hope Democrats have now is to turn off enough middle voters ? particularly women ? that they can push independents out of the equation. They think, for good reason, that they have a fighting chance if it becomes a base-turnout war.

My source says he loves it when a Republican has a lead this large, this late in the campaign. But he notes we live in a new and especially vitriolic age, and that no Democrat he talks to thinks Deeds, or Jody Wagner (the candidate for lieutenant governor) and Steve Shannon (the candidate for attorney general), will show any restraint on what they roll with if they think it could help.

“I still believe voters hate bullies,” he concludes. “But if they are too confused or annoyed to care, they may hide in their living rooms instead if confront the bully.”

    He’s also a little worried about GOP get-out-the-vote efforts . .

As Jaded has said, the campaign advertisements by Deeds in VA have been very negative. If it is the D’s plan to hold the $5 million for a really nasty bad negative campaign blitz, watch the poll numbers for McDonnell and the other Republican candidates go out of the roof. The ads will only be attack ads, and will be even more proof that Deeds has no plans for VA, other than as Geraghty says, being a place holder. Pooh shame on you Mr. Deeds.

and it’s easy to armchair quarterback…but they kept interrupting Brain and binging up Hiliburtan and the bank and insurance companies…and I’d have liked to have seen Brian respond by asking if they could point to any instances where Hiliburtan or any of the institutions they presented had actual convictions for wrong doing…and could they point to any instance where he or Red State condoned turning a blind eye to any of their corruption…

If the polls in Virginia and New Jersey are accurate, and Republicans win by nearly double digits in both, that will completely derail Obama’s agenda (and most likely his Presidency thereafter) until the midterm elections.

Democrats will know these losses will be a direct result of Americans rejecting Obama and the Democrat agenda, and in two states that Obama won. Elected Democrats will be running for the hills out of fear 2010 will be like 1994.

After 2010, Republicans should be able to put the brakes on most of Obama’s agenda, even with modest gains.

Don’t think Democrats are going to let this happen lying down. We have to fight until the last vote is counted.

It has his Iraqi veteran daughter speaking about how her father raised her to be an independent thinker and supporting her career choices. If McDonnell can produce ads like this quickly when the Dems fire their ‘Charge!’ volley, he might be able to jujitsu it on them. Of course, it would be even better if he already has them in the can and is waiting until he can see the whites of their eyes before firing.

My husband and I were one of many Republicans who voted for Deeds in the primary simply to defeat Terry McAuliffe. I think Deeds’ landslide victory over McAuliffe gave him an inflated vision of his importance to Virginia voters.

What many people forget is that Virginia is a traditionally conservative state and even Northern Virginia has fair representation of commonsense-minded conservatives. Our liberal senators gained their seats by deceit and luck — Webb because of the media smear of our beloved George Allen and Warner because he rode the coattails of retiring senator John Warner of the same name. I’m ready to put “Defeat Webb” and “Defeat Warner” signs in my front yard! I have been hammering my senators via e-mail, reminding them they should be Blue Dog Democrats and represent our state accordingly.

I’m also holding out hope that Barbara Comstock will win the delegate seat over her democrat incumbent in our district.

For those who may not know, our General Assembly vetoed Democrat Governor Tim Kaine regarding his acceptance of a portion of the stimulus money coming to Virginia that had strings attached and would have caused a permanent increase in welfare spending. Virginia conservatives need to come out in full force and I believe they will. We’re poised, we’re motivated, and we truly are the outstanding choice.

I am finishing up a book describing tactics used by the English army. They took great care in positioning their forces and using what they had as an advantage over the other forces. In one case they used archers sending flight after flight of arrows into the columns of soldiers decimating their ranks as they approached from a distance, then cavalry to flank and attack from the side collapsing the enemy.

Obama and radical core of Congress are the heart of the enemy column and well protected. We can send arrows into it causing damage, but the key is to collapse the flanks. Governor races, local races, state races will rattle them. Then congressional races that weakens their flanks. If they panic and rout, we can run up their backs. If the stand, we’ll just pick them off.

The key is to continue sending arrows and not letting up.
