Scozzafava v. Hoffman

The National Republican Congressional Committee feels so threatened by Republican Doug Hoffman’s campaign, which the NRCC says is going no where, that they have taken to running attack ads against Hoffman. Their accusation? Hoffman is not as conservative as he says he is.

Really?

Okay. For sake of argument, let’s say Hoffman is not as conservative as he claims. That still puts him to the right of the GOP’s establishment picked nominee.

Remember, Hoffman tried to get the GOP nomination, but local party bosses chose Scozzafava instead. The actual Republican voters had no say in the matter.

Now, let’s examine the two candidates and their positions. It seems the NRCC would rather talk about how Hoffman is not as conservative as he says he is instead of trying to claim Dede Scozzafava is anything other than an ACORN endorsed leftist.

Scozzafava :

  • Supports the Obama stimulus
  • Supports card check
  • Supports Cash for Clunkers
  • Supports Davis Bacon
  • Refuses to sign no tax pledge
  • Refuses to sign no pork pledge
  • Voted to force all NY state employees to pay union dues
  • Voted for higher taxes 190 times
  • Voted for a bank bailout
  • Has not demonstrated any support for school choice

Hoffman :

  • Against the Obama stimulus
  • Against card check
  • Against Cash for Clunkers
  • Against Davis Bacon
  • Signed tax pledge
  • Signed pork pledge
  • Supports school choice

Which of these candidates sounds like the real Republican to you?

Call Pete Sessions and tell him shame on him for supporting an ACORN backed candidate in NY-23. His number is (202) 225-2231. And don’t let his staff tell you it is an NRCC matter. This is a Pete Sessions matter.

So that I can donate to Doug Hoffman. Anything we can do to help him win? Other than calling Pete Sessions?

Can anyone do artwork for free to add to Doug’s campaign? Free TV Videos?

    How about that…army of people?

I’ve long maintained that the campaign committees should maintain a simple policy – if they want to support their favored candidate, fine, but do so without attacking the other primary candidates.

Run all the ads you want touting the virtues of Chaffee, Scozzafava, whomever. DON”T run an ad that even mentions or refers to the opponents of your chosen candidate. Ever.

Is not to support a RINO…

    Score one for Dede!

…and tell the national GOP committees to back off and leave primary races alone. Spend the money and the time to support the eventual nominee, rather than engaging in this ridiculous eating-our-own stuff before the primary voters have had their say.

I honestly don’t know what’s in the water at the Rep. Senate and House committees, or at the GOP headquarters either, but someone in a hazmat suit should check it out.

…When one of the candidates is, say, a closet racist Nazi. Or a recently ‘switched’ (read: closet) Democrat.

In those kinds of cases, I could see a compelling interest for the national party to intervene.

Otherwise, it should be standing policy for the national committees to *never* intervene in a Primary (or one of these weird ‘open Primary’ races like we have in NY-23), regardless of perceived “electability”, etc. issues. It’s not the job of the nationals to make those calls – that should be up to the locals *only*.

  • itdiehard

This needs to the belief NRCC need to intervene because they know who will win…

Real Republican? That’s what’s wrong with this Party…it’s you and your “Purist” followers who think this party should stand for something and the only thing that matters is winning? We’re in the minirity and the only thing that matters is winning…we don’t have the luxury of actually representing anything to voters.

This isn’t a primary battle, there was no primary. Scozzafava was selected by a committee without voter input.

The NRCC should just remain silent in this particular race at the least.

The best solution would be for those in this district to become Precinct Committeemen and then change the system to include an actual primary where the Republican voters could choose their candidate from an entire primary field.

  • bs

You’re right. I missed that. Completely forgot that Hoffman was Constitution Party.

    Sorry, Ace.

  • Aaron Gardner

I think you meant that for Ace. ;^)

  • AceInTX

they hand selected Scarfacefava and shunned a more conservative candidate…the people of this district had NO say in who would represent them…this was all a glad handing…back slapping play by party fat cats and a slap in the face of the base!

My mistake. I don’t pay much attention to NY races – I let my colleagues do that, and I put my focus on stuff closer to home.

    From TAS The Prowler

According to Republican National Committee sources, a poll on the 23rd District race paid for by the NRCC and due to be released on Monday has been withheld due to a poor showing by the Republican candidate. An NRCC denied that the poll was being held back, but was being reviewed for “margin of error issues.”

    These people better wake up!

  • AceInTX

?She?d fit in just fine,? House Minority Leader John Boehner told reporters Wednesday when asked where Scozzafava would fit in ideologically in his conference. ?I?ve contributed to her election, and we?re urging all of our members to help bring this race home.?

and there’s the problem with the current state of this party in a nut shell!

That would really work on U- tube. Besides obuma’s feeling really down after the triple, double, single = O. (olympic thing) Although, they have managed to degrade and CHANGE, (HUH, there’s that word again!!!) the meaning and value of The Nobel Prize. Well one thing for sure ,they are consistant. Systematically, block by block is being changed. I guess we can look at it like job security. when all he does has failed. We will just have to Rebuild.
