EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Harry Reid Blames the AMA. Can’t Bring Himself to Blame RedState.

We, RedState readers, have defeated Harry Reid today and delivered a significant blow to the potential passage of Obamacare. We held every Republican Senator including Olympia Snowe and Richard Burr.

Harry Reid just ran to the Senate floor and cried that he cannot get enough votes to pass the doctors’ bribe to support Obamacare. He blamed the AMA for misleading him.

He might actually want to look to RedState. Our readers have generated hundreds and hundreds of phone calls in 24 hours to pretty much every Republican Senator. Several who had considered voting for cloture backed down.

And now the end run around Obamacare costs has been defeated.

This makes it much more difficult for Obamacare to pass and virtually impossible for it to pass without significant deficit blowing cost additions.

Well done activists!

The dems have 60. That is all they need to pass whatever they want. The only way any type of filibuster is successful is if he canot herd all of his cats together.

  • jen2001

If he can’t get this piece of crap passed, funded by the stimulus money according to Burr (R-NC), then it is definitely not looking good for the big dog bill. Buckle up and grab the popcorn.

  • IJB

Especially true when you you consider that Burr was apparently going to vote ‘Yes’ (I hope it was just that his office was clueless on that one, ‘cos if not it’s a very bad sign…), and you’ve got to figure Snowe and Collins (and possibly a few others) were likely GOP Cloture votes too.

To make up that difference, there must have been at least 5, and likely more, Dem Senators who intended to vote ‘No’.

If so, that’s a good sign for us, and a very, very bad sign for the prospects of ObamaCare passing…

  • Spartan4Life

    Let’s see….

    1. Patriots
    2. Insurance Companies
    3. Bankers
    4. Doctors
    5. Fox News
    6. Rush and all his listeners
    7. Seniors

Pretty soon their populist wave will consist of a coalition of African Americans, Harvard elitists, Keith Olberman, and Rachel Maddow.

  • azaeroprof

They could just buy off the AMA by sending one of those fancy-shmancy white lab coats to every doctor! They could even embroider the little Obama logo on each one. ;)

  • E Pluribus Unum

They’re not going to stop trying to weasel their way through this. Eternal vigilance, my friends.

Still, there’s something amusing about a grown man crying, when <ibOld Yeller is not even on the TV.

Both Warner and Webb voted NO. I wonder if they are starting to hear the citizens of the Commonwealth now? Maybe the recent polls showing McDonnell +19 (SurveyUSA) and +12 (PPP) are catching their attention.

Send all help you can to Virginia. Money, phonebanking, volunteers all welcome here.

and all the like that we get from Democrats….

While this is only partially related, ties to the fact Democrats (like in this case) try to “adjust” the ObamaCrap …. er…. ObaMaoCare Bill without directly putting its costs into it to keep their fictitious $829 Billion number – I just thought of this and wanted to share it.

Now, this will be on about a 6 year-old level “analogy” (that is a story about something one can grasp to give a basic ‘likeness’ in situation to another in terms someone might better understand) so our Politically Brain-dead Liberal guests (like that brief explanation of what an analogy is, since they probably don’t get past the first 4 letters of that word and didn’t know what it means and) can maybe begin to follow the concept….

It’s like all the Liberals getting excited about FREE ICE-CREAM and they go miles and miles out of their way to get the said FREE ice-cream. Most would recognize the “miles and miles” part implies a “cost,” but that isn’t even really what this “analogy” is about. What it is about is how they didn’t pay attention to the DETAILS of the offer and then are astonished, surprised, and even out-raged, that they later get a Bill for $10 for all the Add-on Toppings they piled on their Ice-cream while they were there.

If this were a real example they would be demanding that the Ice-cream business be shut-down and the owner jailed for THEIR FAILURE TO PAY ATTENTION to what was really being offered. However, and this is where we tie the analogy in dear Liberals, when it is the Demoncrats they keep voting into Government falsely advertise and hide costs (as they would point out was being done by the Ice-cream parlor) — Nothing.

Since we have to directly spell it out for them….. WHAT THAT MEANS IS they (your Democrats) are pulling all the same tricks and gimmicks they have always done in order to HIDE the true costs of their Government schemes (in this case, ObaMaoCare). Yet, you Liberals never learn the lesson!!

Perhaps some other examples might be given at a 4-year-old level for you (Liberals) to better grasp instead.

The way it worked was that they needed 60 votes. 5 or 6 Dems wanted to vote no but they needed an equal number of ‘moderate’ Republicans to vote yes to cover for them. As soon as it looked like the votes weren’t there from GOP defectors, another handful of completely hypocritical chicken-**** Democrats changed their vote to no so they can trumpet that in their next election run.

Harry must have misplaced his script.

It’s really precious to see Harry blaming the AMA for not delivering votes from the GOP Senators that Harry refuses to even allow in the same room with him. Does he not realize how stupid he looks?

Real adults and men of women of honor will admit defeat or admit mistakes….

I don’t think we will ever see this from Reid, Pelosi or Obama….

One of a thousand reasons why these people should not be
ruining – I mean running our government.

  • http://andrightlyso.com/ civil_truth

So they might as well stay on the reservation on this one, as is their usual habit. It’s only when their votes matter that they vote against us.

  • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

MSNBC won’t turn against him. At this point, he could pretty well sacrifice their kids and call them morons, and they would ask for more.

  • http://impudent.blognation.us/blog kyle8

It might take a while but they will turn on him when the blood darkens the waters.

And when they do it will be a horrible sight to behold.

You see, lefties are not dear comrades or bff’s, they more closely resemble a pack of sharks or piranha.

  • Dave_in_Fla

    Feingold and Byrd (!?!?!)

The entire Wisconsin delegation votes no

The entire North Dakota delegation votes no

Baucus brethren from Montana, Tester votes no

Nelson from Florida votes no, I am stunned by that one. I was expecting the Crist standin, Lemieux, to vote yes.

  • http://www.skiloveland.com skicougar

    That made the efforts !

I know my liberal, no job, micheal moore loving brother in law will never realize it; but you all made efforts that will be better for his life as well as yours, mine and every red blooded, patriotic American that does think the people, not DC are the best solution to our problems !

Once it was going down the most chicken Dems went with the flow. Suddenly it changed from five Dems voting no to a dozen.

  • Leopard1996

Who contacted their senators, and pushed them in the right direction.

  • crosley

If Republicans do really well in the upcoming elections (I think they will), expect to see Democrats jump ship on health care in even greater numbers.

As liberal as these Senators are, their career comes first. I really don’t see how any Senator that votes for ObamaCare that comes from a Red State doesn’t end their career in politics. I would say of the list of 13 that voted against this, 10 of them will likely be thrown out of office if they go along with Obama.

Are they really willing to sacrifice their political career for Obama?

  • Mayhem

Considering that the capitol switchboard was flooded by Obama organizers this weekend, we really did deal them a blow.

Some “moderate” yes votes to take note of:

    Kay Hagan
    Tim Johnson
    Mary Landrieu
    Blanche Lincoln
    Ben Nelson
    Mark Pryor

The Arkansas Senators should get an earful for this vote. Particularly Lincoln, who is already in hot water.

The Ben Nelson vote is not too surprising. I believe he votes for cloture on almost all bills, out of principle. I think the one exception was the immigration bill 2007, where he voted against cloture. If he can vote no on the immigration bill, then I would think he could vote no on the coming healthcare bill as well. No?

  • erod

significant? I consider myself politically savvy, but sometimes I need stuff explained.

The Dems were planning a 10 year freeze of doctors medicare payments, and I just want to know why they wanted that? I would appreciate it if a red stater could explain it to me. However, I know it’s good if Dingy Harry is PO’d. ;)

  • bk

They tried to keep this $250B addition to the deficit separate from the health care reform bill so that they can say HCR will cost under a billion dollars. But that’s where this belongs, and adding it in brings the cost of any HCR bill to around $1.15 trillion give or take a few tens of billions in small change.

  • bk

You don’t sound like a moron at all. You just missed the sleight of hand being pulled by the Dems, which is exactly what they were hoping for.

  • wgsampson

Harry Reid never realizes how stupid he looks. But let him blame the AMA. When they attacked the pharmaceutical companies, the people were OK, and when they attacked the evil insurance companies, the people didn’t mind then either. Now, I can’t stand the AMA, but most people don’t really know what the AMA is all about, so when they attack the AMA, the people will see them attacking their doctor, their Pediatrician, their OB/GYN, etc… And I think it has been established that most people like their doctor. This is one villain too many. Let the baby cry.

  • erod

She was a last ditch candidate who won because Dole made some people angry and then made a big campaign ad mistake.

Unless I’ve missed some vote/bill of hers that speaks otherwise (and I won’t deny I could have) I consider Hagan a sheep who will do what the other dems do.

While I thought I would be spinning my wheels contacting both their offices today I must admit to being completely surprised by their NO votes…while it probably was last minute when they realized Nevada Harry didn’t have the votes this is still a good first step

I had CNBC on mute in the office, but when McConnell came on, I cranked up
the volume just in time to hear that this thing went down in flames.

I fell out of my chair, especially after I heard Burr and others might
    cave on this vote.

I’d kill to be a fly on the wall in Reid’s office right now.

I don’t think they made a determination in my CD yet as to who is going to run against our congress schmuck. But I do know I am going to do everything under the sun to vote against him and encourage others to do the same.

  • Sunnie57

I thought this was a good idea for those who have the time (from my automatic email from Dick Armey):

“Representatives and Senators need to hear from you not only on the phone, and via email and traditional mail ? but in their own backyards. A district office visit doesn?t take long, and is a very important step that shows you are serious about preserving our freedoms.

Many folks are having trouble getting through to their Congressmen on the phone ? some offices are no longer answering, other lines are jammed. If they won?t listen when we call, then you need to show up on their doorsteps!”

Here is the website with more ideas:

I take it Bennet voted with Reid crew

Interesting 3 most vulnerable Dems all gave their Republican opponents a great issue to run on

    Bennet, Reid, Lincoln

  • Leopard1996

There is nothing else, I can add to that. Hopefully this gives some momentum. Reminds me kind of my football days when I played on offense, and our defense got a pick, I tended to get about a half step quicker off the ball and hit a little harder and our offense executed just a little bit better.

about the “health care reform” now that this offer is off the table. This was supposedly the only reason they were supporting the dems bill to begin with…….which was a huge mistake in the first place.
They need to bring doctors together to help defeat the dems health care “reform”, not support it!

  • bk

It seems like when Reid is losing a vote he switches his vote so he can ask to reconsider later. But here he stayed as a yes. Does that procedural trick only come into play on final votes (i.e. it doesn’t matter on cloture votes), or is it only if something is passing that he wants to fail, or is it for some other scenario altogether?
