Dede Scozzafava Should Withdraw

Republicans could use to hold New York’s 23rd Congressional District. As it stands, because of poor choices along the way, the Democrat is in the lead.

We know now, confirmed by multiple sources inside and outside the various campaigns, that Dede Scozzafava has fallen into third place. Her recent behavior indicates a candidate who has lost control of the message, the campaign, and any chance of winning.

The Republican National Committee had given multiple indications to the media and bloggers that it would be staying out of this race. As soon as it was duly reported, the RNC jumped in. This is a little noted fact that should be better highlighted. Frankly, the NRCC’s determination to get in and make a go of it was a more honest and credible effort than that of the RNC — still stupid, but more honest.

The NRCC has just now started spending on ads for NY-23. Our understanding is that the ads will mostly focus on attacking the Democrat. The NRCC would be wise to go that course instead of spending a dime on Dede Scozzafava.

That leads us to Scozzafava. With just over a week to go before the election, we strongly believe Dede Scozzafava should withdraw from the race and throw her support to Doug Hoffman. It is objective fact that Scozzafava is in third place in the race. It is objective fact that she has the bulk of the Republican Party, despite the help of official organs of the party, and the totality of the Democratic Party aligned against her.

She was always a terrible choice. In the end, she has become liar, filing a false police report because a journalist dared ask a question she did not like and then using leftwing media in an attempt to smear the journalist. This campaign is a national embarrassment for the Republican Party.

Dede Scozzafava should withdraw from this race and offer her support to Doug Hoffman. LIkewise, should the RNC and NRCC continue spending funds on this race, the money should be spent against the Democrat and not for Scozzafava or against Hoffman.

A Democrat win would be in her favor. She can blame the Conservatives (albeit dishonestly) and her favored policies will still be enacted. She’s a Democrat in Republican clothing. She’s not even a RINO. She’s a Manchurian candidate.

I just sent a donation to Doug Hoffman in NY-23, which is 3000 miles from where I live. I also sent an email to the RNC, telling them what I did and telling them NOT to ask me for any more money if they are going to support liberal candidates. I’d encourage everyone to do the same:

Will there be a runoff if no candidate achieves a majority?

When she leaves Neal or Moe say G’bye. :)

  • Third Street

    If only.

I read that she (or her campaign) admitted that he really wasn’t screaming at her. But somehow in all of this it seems to me we’ve lost focus of what his question was and why she isn’t answering it.

  • RJD

can the RNC and NRCC give money to a non-Republican candidate?
Those organization’s shouldn’t be donating to Scozzafava, even though she’s running as a Republican. But, are they allowed to donate outside the party?

I just followed your lead Fleishchen, also from 3000 miles away.

This comes from John Fund in today’s WSJ Political Diary:

“Speaker Pelosi also has a calendar problem. Because bringing a bill to the floor next week is logistically impossible, she won’t be able to hold a vote before the week of November 2. But German Chancellor Angela Merkel will address a joint session of Congress on November 3, so no business will be done that day.

That means the health care bill can only reach the floor after voters in Virginia and New Jersey elect governors and special House elections occur in California and New York. Should Democrats fare badly in those elections, Blue Dog Democrats may become even more spooked and demand revisions in Speaker Pelosi’s work product. That, in turn, could alienate many in her caucus who insist that any health care bill include a government-run insurance program, or public option.”

But at the very least they can run ads against the Democrat. I think NRCC is doing this.

and leave De De and the crap weasels who foisted her on us twisting in the wind!

  • AceInTX

I think the reason they called the cops was to get the guy to quit asking questions because she insisted on answering and sticking her foot in her mouth

but the rest of the article is spot on. I will offer the strawmen of:

“Republicans ought to win New York?s 23rd Congressional District.”
“Republicans ought to be able to win New York?s 23rd Congressional District.”

The NYS Conservative Party is running Hoffman, and they are a viable party, who ran James Buckley for the U.S. Senate and WON!

I?m sure Hoffman will win, too, especially if the raises enough money. His poll numbers are climbing; momentum is on his side.

If you live in the district, write a letter to the editor to help Hoffman. Hoffmann is prolife, while Dede received the Margaret Sanger award from Planned Parenthood.

can be the right’s version of a WFP candidate—-pulling the republicans to the right as WFP pulls the Dims to the left

that leads many grassroots folks to keep looking critically at the RNC.

Scofazza? come on!!! what were you people thinking?
You just might want to advise her to throw in with Hoffman and salvage something from this..the least of which is your respect with conservatives that are supposed to be your base!

At least two grassroots federal committees, Minuteman PAC and Life and Liberty PAC, are in the fray in NY 23, putting up hard hitting IE radio ads in targeted markets to help Hoffman…

I hear that Concerned Women and Eagle Forum’s PAC are doing voter guides touting Hoffman…

You can hear the ad audios on their respective websites, with press releases posted at www.MinutemanPAC.com and www.LifeandLibertyPAC.com

They need to raise more money to buy additional time.

If we want to flip the House in 2010, Eric is right — what matters is the caliber of people we elect, not the Party label. Corruption is running deep in the GOP, and new Members must be elected at every of our few opportunities.

The Scozzafava must lose, on her demerits, or we will be confronted with the calamity of oodles of such appalling candidates pushed on us out of the NRCC, with no commitment to the GOP platform whatever.

Hoffman winning would be a huge boost for Marco Rubio’s chances refuting the “electability” bugaboo.

Stand conservative ground now, or we resign ourselves to letting the GOP be gone for good.
