EDITOR OF REDSTATE

Did Charlie Crist and Rich Heffley Create the Charlie Crist Hitler Video?

UPDATE: Within an hour of posting this, the anti-Rubio site is now totally offline — server will not respond.

————————————-

The plot thickens in Florida.

A video popped up on YouTube on October 24, 2009, using the standard Hitler clip all the kids are using these days to mock Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s Senate campaign against conservative stalwart and Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio. Naturally, it was an anonymous account that was also created on October 24, 2009.

Three days later, the Crist campaign launched it’s anti-Marco Rubio website called truthaboutrubio.com. The star of the website was the Hitler video. The website ran a poll alleging Rubio’s campaign was behind the video and the website condemned Rubio for it.

When RedState pointed out that Rich Heffley’s name appeared in the source code of the website, Heffley had the website taken down and his name was scrubbed.

But we also were quick to point out the timeline and relationship between this “anonymous” website and the anonymously created Hitler video.

Well, when the website came back online, every reference to the Hitler video had vanished. The poll was gone too, replaced by one about having two government jobs.

Except that Heffley failed to also delete his twitter post trying to tie Marco to the HItler video. You can see a screenshot here in case this too gets deleted.

If you follow the link in the tweet, you arrived at a page that says “Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”

Why would the allegedly anonymous website designed to attack Marco Rubio scrub both Rich Heffley’s name from the website and delete all references to the Hitler video and its possible ties to Rubio unless Heffley and the Crist campaign were connected to both?

…he’d hammer him on his poorly-hidden closet homosexuality rather than comparing him to Hitler.

    FACT.

I took the opportunity to vote… and noticed that (at the time, before my computer contracted a virus through investigation of a Ms Lush, who wrote a post… which has also vanished from the site) the poll indicated 76% of those responding did not believe that Rubio was connected with the ad…. perhaps explaining why they removed it… as the site has clearly not yet had the intended effect.

If at first you don’t succeed… erase all evidence of your attempt to corrupt the field and try, try again.

I just watched the video in question. If Rich Heffley and the Crist campaign were to make a “Downfall” video in order to frame Marcro Rubio, this is the one they would make.

One thing I noticed, Rich Heffley is not named in the video. Heffley is a top Crist campaign advisor and a logical choice to be called out in the video.

Another thing, it is way over the top. I would have been more subtle in every way.

it was a hilariously done “black campaign” op perpetrated by total, complete, fool amateurs.

    Three Reasons:

    1. It doesn’t compare Crist to Hitler or anything like what is implied in the attack website. People familiar with this online fad know the comparison is the collapse of Crist’s campaign to the collapse of the 3rd Reich. This makes me think that some mindless “Adviser” found it one day and thought he could use it by pretending Rubio made it without even bothering to watch it all the way through. If he was trying to make a video to try to pin dirty tactics on Rubio, he could have made one WAY worse than this.

    2. It speaks to too many truths about Crist–how he was supposed to have a walk in the part to this nomination, how his strategy of playing towards liberals blew up in his face, how he tried to push Rubio out of the race early, etc. and I don’t think these are things the Crist campaign believes or is wiling to admit they messed up.

    3. It’s far too funny to have come from an establishment Republican campaign office.

“3. It?s far too funny to have come from an establishment Republican campaign office.”

Yup. I don’t think either campaign did it. It’s too funny. It’s a complete re-do of half a dozen similar sendups. (The first one I saw was a football related one..)

    Closing quote:
“GREER, BRING IN MY SUN LAMP.”

If you want to see a sendup of Little Green Footballs and Charles Johnson’s blog-wars using the same theme … here it is:

…now, truthaboutrubio.com is password protected. Isn’t that special?

for those with WordPress site that just means returning back to your admin page.

Site’s back up. I’d offer to buy these clowns a clue, but watching them shoot themselves in the foot with one RPG after another is sufficiently amusing enough to prevent that….

A youtube user named “LifeAtTheHC” (claiming to be a student group) registered the day before the Crist-as-Hitler meme and is the only commenter there who seems to think the Rubio campaign is behind it:

“wow…way to start the mud throwing campaign. And Crist is NOT Hitler.

This crosses the line. And think if his supporters are willing to go this far, how far will Rubio go?”

HC refers to Harriet Wilkes college, where this guy (who seems to have some sort of anti-Rubio grudge) teaches:

I mean that he was on top of the Rubio is Katherine Harris dig back in July. So we’ve got complete overlap between truthaboutrubio and the folks down at HC; the only question is how are they tied to Heffley…

  • chicchic325

I NEVER claimed to be a student group. I am an individual that has multiple gmail, and thus YouTube accounts, and accidentally must have been on the LifeAtTheHC account instead of my MostRedicThing account.

I also know of no anti-Rubio professor here at the HC. If you do please contact me, I’d like to get to know him.

The LifeAtTHeHC account was made for a friend that is going to South Korea to keep her updated on our lives here. It was meant for nothing else. To prove it check out:

I’m sorry that I accidentally made that account before that video was posted. I had no mean to do that, I was just trying to do something nice for a friend.

And to my friends, I apologize for not signing out, I simply need to check what account I am on when I make comments apparently…lol, since I know none of you will agree with my political opinions. :)

To Mr. Mschmitt (since you assumed that I was male, I get to return the favor, since I do happen to be female), why pick on a whole college because of one professor? If the people you are hating would do that would the Ivy leagues be Ivy any more?

We are taught to be respectful at the HC, and while this post is slightly not, I am trying to be as nice to a baseless personal attack as I can be. And we are taught to think for ourselves and be our own person. So please, think for yourself.
