BREAKING: Dems Blocking Public From Press Conference

Multiple people are telling RedState that the Democrats are blocking the public from attending their health care conference on Capitol Hill. The press conference is being held in a public area on the Capitol Grounds that should be accessible to public observers.

Not today.

The Democrats, having tried to avoid the public for the duration of the health care process, are now determined to block the public from getting close to them at the press conference.

I want to stay informed, but I really think I might need to hold off visiting RedState until noon. That way, I’ll at least have half a day in blissful ignorance. My blood pressure hits its peak too early in the day, and I need to start thinking about being a living voter in November 2011.

The Democrats didn’t want a tea party?

They sure don’t understand representative republic do they.

It’s time to ask, how is this even remotely Constitutional?

  • DefendUSA

My BP is going up just reading what the idiot left does not get about this plan.
If I hear one more time how it is the evil health care and insurance companies that the *conservatives* want to protect, I am going to bust it!!

Libs have no clue about the actual profits…I believe the average is 3-6% for healt care. Hell, Tupperware, ATT, and more are all higher and yet, libs are still out to vilify in order to justify that we all must have insurance….

And blocking from a public forum…just a preview of what will come.

the more voters slip through your fingers.

Oh, wait a minute, that was Star Wars. My bad. ;-)

that the Dems have become one giant abscess on the American people ?

Looks like its going to be a very messy 2010 at the ballot box !

  • earlgrey

I am fired up. Any value in giving to Hoffman/Christie at this late date? Also should let dem congressmen know this ihas not gone unnoticed.

a couple days ago. Don’t know whether it would be beneficial now…
But send it anyway — it will make you feel better (and make your blood pressure go down.)

  • dave_in_atl

But profit margins say basicly nothing…. If I have a company that pulled in 100 million in “profit”, but I gave myself a 100 million dollar paycheck the company suddenly only broke even.

  • bk

The Dems are crying for a public option, citing Medicare and Medicaid as successful examples of govt-run health care, while at the same time saying that there is a half-trillion of waste/fraud/abuse in those two operations that needs to be cut.

So which are they? Successful programs that will be models for expansion and lower costs in the future, or programs that lead to hundreds of billions of dollars of waste?

  • ATLconservative

No board of directors is going to authorize your $100M paycheck at the expense of merely breaking even and watching their stock price drop.

  • Jack_Savage

Your knee-jerk lefty opposition to absolute, plain, publicly known facts is amazing to me. Profit margins say basically nothing? I have read a lot of completely idiotic things from leftys here, but that is at least in the top three.

I would suggest spitting the Obama kool-aid out and educating yourself, because we don’t have the time to do it and you look more and more like a damn fool.

  • dmoyeroh

… and Pelosi said, “Are you serious? Are you serious?” Her aide later told the reporter that it was not a serious question. Are they serious?

  • dave_in_atl

If any comment is knee-jerk its yours. I made a perfectly reasonable comment that profit margin is not nearly enough information to judge a companies monetary situation. I made my point, and provided a reasonable argument to back up my position….

You on the other hand chose to toss insults around.

Case in point… the company I work for has “broken even” pretty much every year I have worked for it. Most companies would prefer to buy more equipment, or pay better salaries than pay higher taxes.

  • Jack_Savage

Is it? Is the total worth of your company and the value to the shareholders directly related to earnings per share? You provided nothing except a laughable statement. No one was talking about the insurance companies’ “monetary position” – the issues have been profits. Since the “excessive profits” meme did not line up with the truth about insurance companies, you moved the goalposts.

The larger issue I have is whether you are here in bad faith, which is something that irritates me to no end. No matter what the issue, you seem to be Johnny-on-the-spot with some DNC talking point.

Maybe you could clarify both things.

  • dave_in_atl

I could give you all sorts of reasons on why I am not here in bad faith, but it would not change your mind. Yes I happen to be a “squishy moderate”, but I would also add that I speak honestly, and have no hidden agenda when I come here. I come here because I enjoy the conversations that happen here.

Either way as a Georgia boy I would say I am more conservative than some north eastern republicans out there (even though that doesn’t say much) :)

And no the company I work for is not a publicly traded company.

  • 4liberty

Sadly, this blatant, totalitarian obstruction of transparency and accountability may only be apparent to those of us who are inoculated from the virus of ignorance that is perpetuated by the MSM and seek the truth from alternative news sources.

I am fairly confident that these tactics will persist and worsen with time, which is not good news for the Republic.

  • TR

Not to cast discredit on anyone but I recall that something similar has in fact been done. Bill McGuire over at UnitedHealth Group took $100 million as a paycheck (more than once) the company stock did in fact rise while doing so but this ultimately led to many bad things happening – i.e. backdating scandal, corporate restatement, legal proceedings etc.

  • bk

    for medicare advantage anyway

  • Jack_Savage

“And no the company I work for is not a publicly traded company.”

Then your argument is completely irrelevant.

Here are the largest health care insurance companies, with their ticker symbol. Why is the ticker symbol important? Because that means they are publicly traded companies, which means that they have shareholders, which means they want to show every dime of profit they possibly can.

    1. UnitedHealth Group – 25 (UNH)
    2. WellPoint – 33 (WLP)
    3. Aetna – 85 (AET)
    4. Humana – 98 (HUM)
    5. Cigna – 141 (CI)
    6. Health Net – 179 (HNT)
    7. Coventry Health Care – 266 (CVH)
    8. Amerigroup – 555 (AGP)
    9. Universal American – 669 (UAM)
    10. Centene – 685 (CNC)

Try again. Maybe you could say, “I voted for Obama and I would hate to see this go down in flames.”

  • TR

Most people don’t realize just how large United is or how integrated they are in the marketplace. They have an entire division centered on insuring people over age 50, Another division focused solely on Medicaid, yet another that does nothing but research on how much doctors and patients should pay for procedures – they sell this information to other insurance companies which uses it to determine what to charge. Still, these are only part of a very large multi-national company that operates in all 50 states and in all US territories.

  • http://random-jumbled-thoughts.blogspot.com tenebrous

No, of course not. Peliosi is just trying to keep our best interests at heart! We’re just stupid little peasants after all and we can’t understand that complex healthcare stuff, right Nancy?

“Page 94 – Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government

Page 110 – Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health plan?and, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions”

    snip

Page 225 – Section 330 permits?but does not require?Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care

    snip

Page 520 – Section 1161 cuts more than $150 billion from Medicare Advantage plans, potentially jeopardizing millions of seniors? existing coverage

    Read it all here:

    http://www.gop.gov/policy-news/09/10…-guide–pelosi

So why does Obama continue to say we can keep our current health insurance?

Why does Congress want to exempt themselves from this “health”care?

Why do they claim that abortions won’t be covered?

Make your voices heard. Write a letter to the editor, and HANDWRITE a note to your congresscritter. If you can, bring your note to their campaign office IN PERSON, and better yet, bring a friend, and tell them to bring their note, too. Better yet – After your write your note to your congresscritter, type it up and send it to your hometown newspaper, and tell readers what you said to your congressperson.

Don’t know what that means? You better.

The congresscritters could care less about your letters and phone calls and e-mails.

UNLESS . . . you are telling the you are, or will become, a conservative voting member of the Republican Party.
