Make Earl Pomeroy’s Life Painful

Earl Pomeroy told his constituents he was standing up to his fellow Democrats on health care.

He stood up to Nancy Pelosi and said he wouldn’t vote for a bill that expanded the deficit.

Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., had interrupted Pelosi’s presentation about one version of the bill with questions about its cost. According to Pomeroy and others, she cut him off — twice — with a question of her own:

Is there any version you could support?

Yes, Pomeroy said, but not the one most likely to succeed.

Why couldn’t Pomeroy support the health care legislation? Because it busted the budget.

In fact, now that the Democrats’ health care legislation has been released, we know it is still a fiscal train wreck.

While Democrats claim their the coverage expansions total $894 billion, this figure represents the net costs of expanded coverage. The CBO score reveals total costs of the coverage expansion total $1.055 trillion-$425 billion in Medicaid costs, $605 billion in “low-income” subsidies for individuals to purchase coverage through government-run Exchanges, and $25 billion for small business tax credits. Democrats’ lower $894 billion number conveniently includes offsetting revenue from more than $150 billion in tax increases (only a portion of the $729.5 billion in total tax increases)-$33 billion from individuals who do not purchase, and $135 billion from employers that do not offer, government-forced insurance.

The more than $1 trillion in spending on coverage expansions does not even include additional federal spending included in the legislation-including extension of Medicaid “stimulus” funding to the States, a new reinsurance program for retirees, and a $34 billion trust fund for public health-that totals $224.5 billion. When combined with the cost of the coverage expansions, total spending under the bill actually approaches $1.3 trillion.

Nonetheless, Earl Pomeroy has decided to side with Nancy Pelosi against his constituents today.

Before the official unveiling, House Democrats gathered in the basement of the Capitol for a final briefing with Pelosi and other leaders, and they agreed that the time for compromise had arrived. Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.), a prominent fiscal hawk, stood up to announce that he would support the measure, drawing a round of applause loud enough to be heard outside the room. “At the end of the day, we’ve got to pass something,” said Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.).

Here’s the thing — if we make Earl Pomeroy’s life extremely painful for the next week, Republicans are going to think twice about jumping ship and so will a lot of the Blue Dog Democrats.

One pile of poop to another!

As a North Dakotan...

forscigrad Friday, October 30th at 12:57PM EDT (link)

I recognize the fact that Earl Pomeroy’s been selling out North Dakotans (and the rest of the country) pretty much from the day he replaced Byron “$650,000 of Bounced Checks” Dorgan in the House of Representatives. This really doesn’t surprise me. He likes to paint himself as a fiscal moderate, but he’s never been anything more than a dyed-in-the-wool liberal.

Unfortunately this state has little enough power at the national level, so incumbents tend to become lifers, regardless of how little they accurately reflect the values and beliefs of the people they represent. I have some small hope that North Dakotans might start to wake up, but I suppose as long as Pomeroy, Dorgan, and Conrad keep bringing home the farm subsidies, there’s probably little chance of that.

SENT!

How about we send 1600 lbs. of dog crap to Earl, like we sent 1600 lbs. of rock salt to Snowe.

Political suicide

RealQuiet Friday, October 30th at 1:02PM EDT (link)

Pomeroy doesn’t want to be a Congressman anymore.

I wish I could believe that...

forscigrad Friday, October 30th at 1:12PM EDT (link)

but there are two things working against us: 1) this state’s massive incumbency bent; and 2) the state Republican Party’s inability to find a decent candidate to overcome (1).

Even Incumbency Reaches a Tipping Point...

IJB Friday, October 30th at 2:59PM EDT (link)

If Pomeroy votes for a bill that, 1) promises to massively raise taxes (and regulations) on his (mostly farming) constituency, and 2) promises to FUBAR those same constituents’ health care coverage, then even long-term incumbency won’t save him, and both he, and Herseth in SD, could be sent packing.

Pomeroy already slipped the noose once (barely) in ‘94. My guess is that if he (and Herseth) votes for a Single Payer bill, neither he nor Herseth will be quite so lucky this time around…

(Question - Did Pomeroy vote for Cap ‘n’ Tax as well? If he did, and then votes for this, my guess is that he’s burnt toast…)

Cap-n-tax...

forscigrad Friday, October 30th at 3:10PM EDT (link)

Pomeroy did not vote for cap and tax, but he was most likely one of the handful of “moderate” Democrats given cover to do so.

Believe me, I’m still hoping that North Dakotans wake up, but I met Quentin Burdick’s corpse my senior year of high school, and he was re-elected to another term beyond that.

Am I the only Republican that hopes the moonbats force a public-option bill to the floor, just so it can die?

ciscoguy Friday, October 30th at 1:56PM EDT (link)

The more often they keep trying to ram that square peg through a round hole, the worse they look.

I'd like to see that as well...

mikedaire Friday, October 30th at 2:07PM EDT (link)

but my fear is the moonbats will pass it, just like cap and trade and tarp.

Meanwhile, my contribution of fake crap is on its way. May Pomeroy’s office choke on the stuff.

Sent some

Paul Schaffner

ktsub Friday, October 30th at 4:36PM EDT (link)

The only info I could find on Pomeroy’s challenger…

Paul Schaffner, 39, currently is an insurance salesperson and has no electoral experience, but may have some residual name rec from his stints as football player at NDSU and assistant coach at local Jamestown College and Univ. of Mary.

Couldnt find a website, I would have sent some money his way.

Well, if nothing else, Mr.Schaffner can read the handwriting

janis Friday, October 30th at 5:33PM EDT (link)

on the wall with regard to his current job. If the Dems get what they want for screwing health care into the ground, the insurance industry has a very limited outlook in terms of job security. Working in the government though, well……..

And the reason I especially like this particular idea is that for once, we’re sending the “crap sandwich” to the politicians!

The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it.

Why is this guy still here?

Third Street Friday, October 30th at 5:28PM EDT (link)

There is no excuse at all for North Dakota to still have an all-Democrat congressional delegation after all these years. What’s the deal?!

Totally agree

crosley Friday, October 30th at 5:45PM EDT (link)

North Dakota goes “red” by about 20-30 points every Presidential election, yet Democrats dominate the state.

Republicans need to be better about recruiting, and it’s a cheap state to run an effective campaign to boot.

You would think at least they could import some carpetbaggers to knock these clowns off if no Republican in the state is willing to challenge them.

It's hard to unseat these guys:

sacody Friday, October 30th at 6:56PM EDT (link)

We worked very hard to unseat Dashle in South Dakota, and we had to throw everything including the kitchen sink at him in doing it. Finally, it was Dashle’s very public pheasant hunt that did him in in which he showed up with brand new hunting equipment looking like Elmur Fud. You need to have a competent person running against these guys and hope something breaks your way. Look at the rest of our deligation: Herseth-Sandlin and Tim Johnson: a Washington pro-abortion lobbyist and a liberal vegetable. They are not representing us for our lack of trying to unseat them. And, I am sure it is a similar situation to the north.

In addition:

sacody Friday, October 30th at 7:03PM EDT (link)

Since we have a very small pool of registered voters and a small TV and radio market, you can’t even imagine how much crap we get from Johnson and Herseth each year. I’m afraid to even check the mail or the answering machine each election season!

You know, I despise Earl Pomeroy as much as anybody...

zbigreddogz Friday, October 30th at 5:32PM EDT (link)

But wouldn’t our few bucks be better spent donating money to to his opponent then on sending him fake dog poop?

I can’t remember his name, but I seem to remember that some statewide office holder was challenging Pomeroy.

Ya got a point there, zbig. nt

I look at it like dealing with the Post Office

UpLateAgain Friday, October 30th at 6:41PM EDT (link)

You can send a letter first class, and it may or may not get there in our lifetime. But if you send it Priority Mail (for just under $5.00), the message arrives, and in a timely fashion.

If you email or snailmail Pomeroy, you will be summarily ignored. At best, you’ll get a form letter back telling you how hard he is working on health care (I think all Democrats essentially use the same form letter. I have gotten back exactly the same one- with only the names changed to protect the guilty - from three of them now.) But if you send him plastic dog poop !!!(for just under $5.00), the message arrives, and in a timely fashion.

You never never never actually need a gun, until you need a gun, and then nothing else will do.

No reason

proudgop Friday, October 30th at 7:23PM EDT (link)

There is absolutely no reason why any Democrat in a Republican seat should get a free ride. The Dems never do it to the few Republican in Dem seats

Every state wide office holder in ND is a Republican one of them should look and hard at this race and I hope and pray Hoeven runs against Dorgan.

Cheap and to the point.

Sending emails only gets you form letters back. This is simple and effective. Liked quite a few of the other “special deliveries” at the site. Who’s next? Keep it coming, Erick, I love it!
