BREAKING: We PWND The NRCC. Dede Scozzafava Drops Out. GOP Establishment Dies on Our Hill.

Dede Scozzafava has dropped out of the NY-23 race.

In her statement, she said

I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit to do so. I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my Party will emerge stronger and our District and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.

She did not endorse Hoffman or Owens. No doubt she’ll vote for Owens.

More importantly, WE WON!

Now, I hope everyone rallies behind Hoffman and gives him the momentum and energy he needs to win on Tuesday. Let’s rally.

I said this was our hill to die on, but to paraphrase Patton, we won my making the other guys die on our Hill!

Could this be the tipping point for Hoffman?

  • redtillimdead

    Maybe not. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/10/31/breaking-scozzafava-quits-after-siena-poll/
She is expected to endorse Hoffman.
I kinda feel bad for her. She broke down in tears speaking to her supporters. I have a lot more respect for her now. She put her ego aside to do what is best for her party and her district.

    Full speed ahead.

DEDE – Endorse Hoffman if you care for the party.

  • redtillimdead

In new PPP poll, after 200 surveys, it was
    Hoffman 45-Owens 26-DeDe 17

“I am and have always been a proud Republican.”

Paraphrasing Indigo Montoya…Dat werd, republican…I don tink it means wot you tink it means.

It NEVER mattered if Mr Hoffman won and I am happy that he will because it was ALWAYS about SMACKING the NRCC for putting up the most liberal candidate since Arlen “the ghost” Specter (put up by the NRSC) and telling us to SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP while he continuously voted with the Democrat block!

I am pleased as punch that Ms Scozzafava has decided to support Hoffman but it certainly was not needed. This is a new day in the GOP & I certainly PRAY that they will walk with us so that WE do not have to FIGHT them!

yes is one of those knocks in the head so we need some more and after that they should come to their senses.

I think the burning anger of conservatives is directed much more at the NRCC than at her specifically. She’s just a lefty so countless other Republicans in that part of the country.

She has time to do the right thing. I hope she does, that would be a magnanimous gesture, and would allow for some healing for all parties down the road.

I applaud her for this decision for doing what right for the party it showed some courage even if she saw writing on the wall.

As jaded said above, winning the election will be icing on the cake. We picked our hill and we also know who stood with us and who went awol. Per hotair, a contingent of activists have trudged to Scozzafava HQ to pry an endorsement out of her. Why that should be necessary is a question for the angels.

    Remember NY-23.

He’s basking in the attention he is getting by not endorsing. Don’t know why his endorsement would have meant anything anyway. He is so last election.

  • tankertodd

The fact that she didn’t endorse Hoffman, to me, is compelling. The one communication she knew would get wide distribution and she didn’t do it.

I suspect the reason why the Northeast GOP is not competitive is because it has been no different than the Democrats. Here’s a first step to turning that around, creating a distinct choice, making a compelling and resonant argument, and letting the voters decide.

  • redtillimdead

    He will officially back Hoffman

  • penguin2

to rattle around. Every time we think our party will wake up, they do something stupid. OTOH, there are times when they do they right thing, and that certainly is better for us than the other party.

At least in this case, it looks like the RNCC got the message. We cannot let up in any way, the direction we want the party to go in. The message: we will not accept Dem-lite candidates.

  • michigan

because she’s just exposed herself as the consummate opportunist. Good riddens.

  • http://www.werushdaily.com Rightshift

…endorse Hoffman (and other conservatives) for the sake of the country!

  • Richard Mullins

unlike the Brain Dead party that we are opposed to(we know who it is). All we need is for our conservatives to win and their Hand picked candidates to lose. It might be 10, it might be 100, but I’m sure that they will get the message.

  • DavidSage

She WANTS to endorse the Democrat Owens, but that would only reinforce what her critics have been saying all along.

She won’t endorse Hoffman because he and his supporters are reason she was humiliated in this election.

  • antisocial

and avoid targeting individuals in the party. I am glad she dropped out. I would be happier if she can endorse Doug Hoffman.

We don’t want to damage the party. We just want to bring it back from wonderland to where it belongs.

Let us focus on promoting Hoffman. Dede is history.

  • Jack_Savage

She could have handled it differently.

  • mustango

…she’d have simply stayed in the race to the end and continued on with the illusion that Hoffman was the vote-splitter who needed to get out of the way.

Scozzafava hasn’t been around long enough to be like Specter and think herself greater than the party she’s a part of. She joined the GOP knowing it contained many people holding views with which she sharply disagreed.

An explicit Hoffman endorsement would be nice, but she’s done the loyal Republican thing and at this stage that will suffice for me.

“(Hoffman) is the only active candidate in the race who supports lower taxes, fiscal responsibility and opposes Nancy Pelosi’s agenda of government-run healthcare, more government and less jobs.”

New flash, guys – it’s been that way all along. Admit it – you screwed it up from the start.

  • redneck_hippie

Dede’s “natural base of donors” was proven a LAME GAMBIT.

    Didya get that one NRCC?

  • http://www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com SoFiMil

The only thing worse than the NRCC selecting the candidate is allowing liberals to pick our candidate.

  • http://www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com SoFiMil

I’m glad I wasn’t eating or drinking anything while in front of my laptop.

  • SteveLA

    SoFiMil

I’m good with that too, if the people who are voting in the Primaries are good with that rule too.

But keeping outside money of all kinds out of Primaries is not a bad start in my book. If a hard line conservative appeals to the local electorate good, same as if a so called RINO wins the primary, as long as outsiders of all persuasion stay out of the primaries, that would be good in my view.

  • Castor

Not exactly. If she endorses Hoffman – O:K then.
I would like to know who placed the phone call to tell her to drop out.I?m sure she didn?t take the decision without a push from someone.

surely you’re not implying that the moderate, mushy middle doesn’t back their moderate, mushy convictions with hard cash?

    You…you…you…closed-minded, conservative purist, you.

    Snark: off

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

    1) Next time support, from the beginning, the candidate that identifies with the base.

    2) The base is still conservative, despite your desire to say it isn’t. Reagan may be gone, his political philosophy is not.

    3) The base sure as hell is not liberal. The candidate you endorse should not be, either.

NRSC, RNC? See above. Don’t make the same mistake next year.

  • eburke
  • eburke

considering your target audience, this may still be too difficult for them to comprehend (you did use several 2 and 3 syllable words in it).

Maybe mono-syllabic words with some pictures?

  • DavidSage

I’m much more cynical, I think Dede saw the writing on the wall, and decided to quietly exit rather than suffering an embarrassing 3rd place loss.

The local or national GOP may even have cut her a deal to drop out so they wouldn’t lose this House seat.

Dede truly was a Republican only in name, I’ve yet to see a RINO that had such loyalty to a political party that they disagree with on every single issue.

I think this decision was all about Dede. One way or another though, she ended up doing the right thing.

  • peg_c

Good for her, now she needs to ENDORSE Hoffman!

There are union thugs and Dem operatives running around all over NY-23 this weekend. Hopefully their job just got a thousand times harder!

    Go, Doug!!

  • peg_c

    Other than beltwayitis, that is.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

    Good point.

Or I could just staple it to their foreheads. Whatever works.

Before you declare conservatism dead, check for a pulse.

This site might be a good place to look first. Kudos to Erick for being on the front lines of this from the beginning.

  • eburke

I was, until a couple of years ago starting w/the Pelosi love-fest, a HUGE Newt fan. I know we kid/joke alot on here about folks going to Washington and falling in love w/the Georgetown cocktail circuit gang but I REALLY believe that’s what happens. You go up there with the best of intentions and the next thing you know everyone is kissing your arse and you get seduced by the power. I think that’s what happened to Newt and that’s what’s happened to such conservative stalwarts like Cornyn and Sessions.

You so much crave the power that you delude yourself into thinking that what you’re doing is really in the best interest of ‘the movement’ and you don’t even realize you’re doing it. You get to DC, get bombarded with the ‘dumb, flyover rube’ meme and you forget to dance with what brung ya ’cause you start doubting whether it’ll actually sell.

Yet one more example of the genius of the Founding Fathers when they envisioned citizen-legislators who served for a few years and went home.

And then…there’s the short answer – some of these clowns are just power-hungry meglomaniacs who never really believed but just crave the power. I personally believe Newt is the former who morphed into the latter.

  • eburke

penetrate the cranial cavity of some of these clowns, the escaping rush of air might prove to be dangerous and possibly even life-threatening.

Best news since Chicago got denied the Olympics!

  • LDahl752

But, I’ll be waiting for a more formal “apology” of sorts from the NRCC before I send them another dollar. Wouldn’t it be heart warming to hear Sessions admit they made a mistake? And, the RNC handed over a million dollars to the NRCC to help Scozzafava! How clueless could they be? I want to hear the so-called leaders of the GOP begin talking about how they’re hearing us and finally understanding. Surely they must know that conservatives are more than just restless. We’re hoping the old-line party members end ALL the pandering and actually BELIEVE in the principles which will pull this country back from its pending bankruptcy. How about advocating for some genuine shrinkage of the central government?
