Having Sat on His Hands Refusing to Help the GOP In Its Suicide Bid, But Remaining a Loyal Lieutenant, Mike Pence is Finally Free to Do What He’s Always Wanted

Mike Pence refused to endorse Dede Scozzafava. Being, however, the Chairman of the House Republican Conference, it really would have been bad form of him to go all in with Hoffman. Being in that position demands some party loyalty. So behind the scenes Pence has made clear he was unhappy with this whole sordid mess and has refused to cooperate or fund the madness.

Today he can do what he has wanted to do the whole time — endorse Doug Hoffman.

Conservatives are now fully united and fighting. The race is not offer. We must fight for Hoffman now.

Pence’s statement is below the fold.

Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, today released the following statement regarding the special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District:

“As chairman of the House Republican Conference, I am proud to announce my support for Doug Hoffman for election to Congress in the 23rd District of New York.

Dede Scozzafava’s decision to suspend her campaign is to be commended. By doing so, she has put the interests of her country and her party ahead of personal considerations.

Now is the time for all Republicans to come behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. We look forward to welcoming him to the House Republican Conference. By electing Doug Hoffman to Congress, the citizens of New York’s 23rd District can send a deafening message to Washington, D.C. that the era of borrowing and spending and bailouts and takeovers is over.”

Wonder how Newt will clean it up? And what about the silent Romney and Huckaby, both of whom profess to be so conservative? Maybe they will speak since its safe now. The Republicans had better realize that the conservative base is awake now, and roaring. We are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore.

  • redneck_hippie

    I’ll drink to that.

Oh, and Erick, did GC write that title for you?

  • zbigreddogz

It’s preposterous to presume people in GOP leadership would endorse someone other then the Republican candidate, even in exceptional circumstances like this. Sitting on his hands and not endorsing Scozzafava is the most anybody could reasonably expect.

I’m glad Hoffman ran, I’m glad Scozzafava dropped out. I think we are going to win.

But you really need to get off your high horse and quit your jihad against good people like Pence. If Pence is not one of us, there ARE none of us.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

But if an idiot like you can’t even spell Erick’s name right even though it’s spelled out right in front of you, you’re unlikely to be worth reading.

  • Bobcat51

Romney and Huckabee are fence sitters and finger in the wind professional politicians! Along with Newt one has to wonder what 2012 will bring with pretenders like these sitting on top of the ladder.

We have a revolution taking place in this country and it will require stout hearts and minds to foil Obama and his Marxist cohorts from destroying the Constitution. The very future of our country is in our hands and we need hands that are committed not fumbler?s and bumbler?s like those named here.

PS; Just watching Steele as he fumbles with Greg Jarrett Fox at 3pm eastern. The guy should wake up and smell the coffee. The McCainites should get off the bus and make way for the real future if the country.

I suspect you read no further than the headline.

Or is it that you don’t understand what he wrote?

  • janis

Blah, blah, blah, I know better than you do, blah, blah, blah. And in closing:

I wish I was a big dog instead of a flea-bitten mutt with delusions of intelligence.

where there are more conservatives than commonly imagined.

And redneck_hippie, GC could not have written that title:
    1) too many fully-spelled words
    2) too many correctly-spelled words
    3) too few name-based puns
    4) too many capital letters
    5) too short

    Just needs one last push.

No more appeasing the left. Not if there’s a clear choice between a conservative and a squish, as there clearly was in this case.

and one can only hope that the powers that be in the Republican party recognize that we can do some very amazing things. I bet a few months ago no one even heard of Hoffman or Scazzofava, and, look at what a concerted effort by an awake and very much alive conservative movement can do. We will stay energized, and keep supporting Hoffman until he wins. If the establishment Republicans don’t recognize just how big this one effort has been, and how “united” the people have been, they deserve to die in their ditches, while the conservatives take over those hills.

Erick was giving Pence his props. Erick clearly stated that Pence could do nothing until now.

    Get a grip, dude.

  • zbigreddogz

But he still slanders him in the headlines. And it’s not fair, right or helpful.

    He’s basically saying, “You’re a f*&king jerk. But it’s OK, you f*&king jerk.”

    That’s just not helpful.

  • RedBeard

    Please, read it again.

  • zbigreddogz

He slanders Pence then sorta-kinda takes it back.

    And he shouldn’t have.

“Opinions are like a**holes: everyone’s entitled to one, and everyone’s got one”.

So you have your opinion and have made it clear.

That doesn’t mean that it’s based on any degree of rationality or that we have to respect it as being rational.

  • JadedByPolitics

    BRING IT ON!!!!!

but zbig is clearly an idiot. Only an idiot could conclude that this statement:

After sitting on his hands, refusing to help the GOP in its suicide bid….Mike Pence is finally free to do what he’s always wanted.

is an insult to Mike Pence. I won’t waste my time or your band width trying to explain it to an idiot.

as to the “loyal lieutenant” part, he is the Chairman of the House Republican Conference. Good leaders don’t throw their organization under the bus, even when they disagree.

  • DavidS1787

And the conservatives aren’t going to be satisfied with the status quo moderate Republicans………..

  • http://www.erickerickson.org Erick Erickson

I’ve been supportive of Pence and his actions in this race all along ? including complimenting him weeks ago that he was going to sit on his hands instead of backing Scozzafava.

  • penguin2

Sounds like a positive to me, for Mike Pence. Erick is acknowledging the dilemma Pence was in and is now free. I think it speaks highly of Pence that he refused to endorse Dede, when other GOP “leaders” were doing so. Including the RNCC and RN

Oops, I guess that is exactly what Erick said!

  • RedBeard

“Having Sat on His Hands Refusing to Help the GOP In Its Suicide Bid…”

The above phrase is giving Pence CREDIT for not helping the GOP screw this up. It’s a GOOD THING to not aid a suicide bid. See how that works?

Eh. Never mind. Wasting my time, while somewhere there’s a Yuengling Black and Tan with my name on it……..

  • bs

Get rid of this “zbigreddogz” sock puppet. We know you’re in there.

  • Vegas_Rick
  • eburke

how many IQ points shy of zero do you have to be to a) misread a headline that obvious; and b) tell the founder of the site to ‘get off his high horse’?

    Just wondering.

  • peg_c

Pence – who we all know is an extremely good conservative – had his options limited and did what he had to. Now he’s doing everything he can.

Gingrich and Romney were not boxed in and still did not do the right thing. They deserve the criticism they’re getting.

    Thank you, Congressman!

  • peg_c

Let’s hope they earn some wisdom.

In my official capacity I want to note that NO dog would post something this stupid.

Bad dog. Actually, you’re probably a stupid cat (redundant, I know) in disguise.

Oh look zbig, it’s winter time. Somebody’s put out a nice dish of antifreeze for you to drink. It’ll keep you warm. You’ll like it. And so will the rest of us.

  • redneck_hippie

Cryptic titles are more conservative, after all.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

Giving to the candidates helps, too.

I understand there is a lot of this and that and go here, go there.

I heard this on Fox News.

The word “doctor,” in the sense of “medical doctor,” does not appear in the Nancy’s bill.

I went to http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare and downloaded the bill and searched using Acrobat Reader. The search function could not find “doctor.”

    Unbelievable.

    Thank you.

once we have single payer. Nobody will be sick after the “health commissioner” gets through with us. In Russia and China they starved and shot the masses. Here we just have our plugs pulled.

Yeah, he’s a man of principle. Let the women do the real work. Palin endorsed Hoffman when he was only polling at 15%. His numbers shot up over the weekend, then Pawlenty endorsed when it was “Safe” to do so. Real men running the Republican party, NOT. Scared chickens actually!
