Well, the one Republican in Washington, D.C. today who seems to have had a realistic assessment of what took place yesterday is John Cornyn, the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
He made sure to tell a reporter that the NRSC will not spend any money in Florida for Crist or against Rubio.
Most curious in his statement were three words:
“As far as what’s happening in specifically Florida — we made a decision to endorse Gov. Crist at his request. But we’re really not involved in the primary,” Cornyn told Manu. “That’s up to the voters in Florida.”
So . . . um . . . the NRSC didn’t really want to endorse Crist, but Crist very much wanted them to so he could look like the establishment guy? That’s what I take from this. If Crist wants to own the mantel of “GOP Establishment Candidate,” let’s tie it around his waist and throw him in one of Florida’s many lagoons.
Make no mistake about it, the only reason that endorsement happened was not to help Crist, but to stop donors from giving money to Rubio. Now that this is no longer a reality or possibility, the NRSC is throwing Charlie to wolves.
The message from John Cornyn to everyone seems very clear, “We’re not as screwed up as the NRCC and will not be playing in Florida.”
See? Just one of the very many reasons NY-23 was a victory for conservatives.
Now go make a donation to Marco Rubio. Remember NY-23.

Fantastic news
ceili_dancer Wednesday, November 4th at 3:40PM EST (link)I think the NRCC could have better spent their money on going after the Democrat. The NRSC should take a page from that playbook during the primary and use it for general attacks on the Democrat party and help the Republican nominee (Rubio) during the general.
Very good
RedBeard Wednesday, November 4th at 3:54PM EST (link)At least the NRSC doesn’t want to be seen shooting itself in the foot.
Good news for Rubio, bad news for Crist.
I sincerely believe that Rubio can pull this off, both in the primary and the general. In a head-to-head debate, he would run rings around Crist.
Most importantly, do as Erick said and PONY UP THE $$$.

The problem I have with Steele is that he's too easily...
MacAoidh Wednesday, November 4th at 5:42PM EST (link)…rolled by the enemy media.
I’m prepared to believe his words were twisted and he didn’t go after Erick and this site as ABC made it out, but I’m also mindful of the faux controversy between Steele and Rush Limbaugh earlier this year which happened because Steele let himself be painted into a corner by D.L. Hughley and Chuck D., of all people. All Hughley had to do was begin insinuating that Steele was an Uncle Tom and he panicked - and all hell broke loose as a result.
This happens too often. If Steele wants to do himself and the movement/GOP some good he needs to be a lot more combative toward the enemy media and stop playing into their hands.
Interesting take on Steele
voxoreason Thursday, November 5th at 10:59AM EST (link)While I gave Steele the benefit of the doubt, too many of his own footprints on his tongue left me cool toward Steele.
Of course, with the Big Media (no longer mainstream), republicans simply can’t win, so Steele is damned if he does/doesn’t.
While his leaving the post might be divisive, I’d certainly like to see Steele display a little more spine. If he can’t stand the heat…
While I can’t make it to Washington today, I put in an early call to my rep, a NC dem, to oppose Obamacare, illustrating my frustration with the 111 new bureaucracies RedState listed. “Imagine the payroll!” The receptionist was very polite and noted that my rep says he will vote NO.
Hope everyone else will make at least some effort to contact their reps by any means available. I write this guy from time to time, noting how his votes on the left would hurt him as a dem, asking him to vote in his own interest (eg, not alienating the elderly and independent voters), if not for the dem position.
God bless. Especially those who make some noise today!
Ironically,
edniceville Thursday, November 5th at 8:53AM EST (link)I received a call from the RPOF yesterday asking for money. I told them that until the party “grows a pair”, they won’t be receiving any of my money. for too long, the Republican Party has been sucking up to RINOs like Charlie Crist, and failing to “go after” the Dems. When Charlie appeared on stage with Obama, all funding to him should have been IMMEDIATELY cut off! We have to remember that by and large, the Republican Party leadership at both the state and national levels still “doesn’t get it”. We need to be putting our money where our mouth is…support the CONSERVATIVE candidates by donating directly to their campaigns! True, we cannot donate as much individually as we can to a party, but, we can make it up in volume. Support the conservative candidates across the nation (and especially in Florida) directly! We CAN take this country back and undo all of the damage.
Me too...
msb1939 Thursday, November 5th at 9:25AM EST (link)When they call, I tell them to stuff it as long as they support and keep Steele in the driver’s seat….he is a loser and dragging some conservatives down with him.

We need the Primary system. It is the only way to keep those in power honest. We need to be sure that those in power do not tell us who our candidates are. We get to be the ones to vet those candidates & decide for ourselves who we want to represent us as Republicans.
If Republicans want the votes of conservatives then they need to invite us into the process of choosing our candidates. But they cannot just assume that we will support those who are against us on the issues that we find most important.

MacAoidh Wednesday, November 4th at 4:34PM EST (link)…the NRSC still suffers from the same malady as the NRCC - which is a failed process borne of failed assumptions.
Both made bad endorsements of bad Republican candidates unworthy of the support of GOP donors. Both made those endorsements based on an inherent distrust of the power of the conservative message Republicans are supposed to champion.
If lessons are being learned here, good. They should have never been forgotten in the first place.
It would be better if...
tenebrous Wednesday, November 4th at 6:14PM EST (link)they would just stay out of the primaries altogether. Carly announced today in California ...
joayn Wednesday, November 4th at 6:53PM EST (link)that she’s running against Boxer. Too late, Carly, the real candidate has been in the race for months - Chuck DeVore.
After the conference call last night, I e-mailed the NRSC to inform them that I will be bypassing their organization and donating directly to the conservative Republican candidate here in California as well as other states. That was probably my fith e-mail stating the same message. I bet they’ve been getting a ton of e-mails with like messages. I also included the NRCC.
It will be interesting to what Cornyn does regarding Carly Fiorina. John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Susan Collins are throwing a big shindig for Carly Fiorina in D.C. this month to announce here candidacy. Besides her record on issues (none) and her personal history (pretty bad), this is one big kiss of death if you ask me. Hmmmm, wonder if she’s self-funding. She was asked months ago if she was and she wouldn’t confirm or deny.
If you go to Chuck DeVore’s website you can read how they differ. I like the Iran stuff. Should make all the conservatives in California flock to the polls - for Chuck DeVore!!
The Fred standard
SteveLA Wednesday, November 4th at 7:10PM EST (link)joayn
I heard Fred on Fox, Cavitio I think it was, his standard was pretty good on who to support. The Republican with the best chance of beating the Democrat in the race.
I’m not a Fiorina fan, not happy with what she did to HP, but it’s a long time to the Primary. We’ll get to see how both Fiorian and DeVore stack up during the campaign on beating Babs Boxer.
I’m hopeful that the NRSC will stay the heck out of CA and the primary one way or the other, save the money interfering in the primary for taking on Babs.

SteveLA Wednesday, November 4th at 11:59PM EST (link)Unlike NY 23, this is a primary, and those of us who actually live in CA will get a chance to decide who we want between now and I think it’s June of next year.
By the way, something that DeVore does not get a lot of credit for, and I think he should say more about is his actions in the CA assembly during the budget mess. If I recall correctly, he resigned his R budget committee leadership post over some of the stupidity going on in the Republican Assembly caucus. That impressed the heck out of me.

That someone so egregious as Scoz would be nominated says a lot about what is wrong with the Republican Party in the Northeast. Get the Democrat moles out of responsible positions in the party.
In many areas of the country, if the Rep party wants to be a big tent, they should start representing Conservatives. In Kansas where the Republicans are strong there is very little difference in the positions of the parties. The Marxist media constantly rails against “far right extremists”. As though supporting self-government, the Constitution and the rule of law puts you out of the mainstream.

Oh, the irony!
GOPMOM Thursday, November 5th at 7:38AM EST (link)At a wine and cheese fundraiser last night for State Senator Scott Brown in MA, we heard that the NRC is pretty uninterested in his campaign. Hmm, uninterested in capturing the 41st seat in the US Senate?
I know it sounds like a long shot, but take some time to review Senator Brown’s record and who votes for him - lots of Dems and Indies, the keys to winning in MA. The tide has turned against Dems here just like it has nationwide. But we need the entire country’s help. After the primary 12/8, the Liberal machine will move in. We could use a little NY-23 spirit here.
Being a conservative from Ohio, Scott’s voting record leans a bit to the moderate side for me but he is fiscally responsible and is solidly against throwing more of our money away in snake oil schemes designed to increase gov’t and its role in our lives, all in the name of turning back a recession. He is against the Dems healthcare reforms, raising taxes & cap and trade. He sis for reducing the deficit and the national debt. And after living here for five years, I can say he is the best chance MA has had to elect a right of center Republican.
Do some reading and see if this is a candidate you can support. January 19th will be here before we know it. Scott is amassing a large contingency of volunteers to work on his behalf - many of the MA Tea Parties are supporting him . If anyone wants to come in Jan to work, I’m 10 miles from campaign HQ - must love dogs. But as we all know, money helps, too. Consider supporting this campaign. Scott is a well liked and well respected State Senator who has more than a god chance at winning this - he has widespread support across all party lines. Or we give the Dems their 60th vote in the Senate.
