I just got this from Doug over at National Right to Life. Please do read it ASAP:
Speaker Pelosi, Henry Waxman, and the White House are engaged in peddling another phony compromise. This is all theater. The “negotiations” are scripted ad phony. The language being circulated, and loosely associated with Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-In.), does not mitigate either of the abortion-subsidy provisions contained in H.R. 3962. This language is intended only to wrap the pro-abortion provisions in additional layers of concealment. The latest version of the Democrats’ abortion compromise being circulated contains a money-laundering scheme that is truly laughable. Some of the people involved in this enterprise apparently think that their constituents are simpletons.
The bill explicitly authorizes the federal insurance plan, the public option, to pay for all elective abortions. When the public option pays for abortions, it will be spending federal funds, because that is the only kind of money that a federal agency can spend in the real world. Henry Waxman and his front men can write language in the bill calling the money anything he wants, but we care about the reality, not what they call it.
The “Ellsworth Amendment” has been independently analyzed by experts at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and at the House Pro-Life Caucus. Their conclusions regarding its substantive (non)effect are fully consistent with those reached independently by NRLC. However, my comments here represent only NRLC.
Mr. Ellsworth issued a press release in which he said, “When you’re going into battle, it’s a good idea to have a contingency plan.” I say, when you’re going into battle, it is always unpleasant to be bayoneted in the back by somebody who said that he was on your side. The Ellsworth language serves no purpose except to assist the pro-abortion House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, to peel votes away from the authentic pro-life amendment, the Stupak Amendment.
The Ellsworth language about the public option is particularly revealing in demonstrating the utter phoniness of the exercise. They just want to pretend that if the federal agency hires private contractors to handle the money, it is not government funding of abortion. This is already being referred to in pro-life circles on Capitol Hill as “the Ellsworth abortion money-laundering scam.”
They can write in a money-laundering scheme under which the federal agency hires a contractor to deliver the checks to the abortionists, but only a simpleton would think it is not government funding of abortion. Any lawmaker who votes for this scheme is voting to create a nationwide federal agency program that will pay for abortion on demand, with government funds.
You can go here and call your legislator to oppose the Democrats’ health care plan.

Risk’s seems the best site of the three. Also she appears to be the most conservative of the three*. She appears engaged in the Tea Parties and grassroots elements in Indiana.
* The other two are very guarded with their views on the issues, in fact Buschon doesn’t appear to address them at all.

The_Gadfly Wednesday, November 4th at 10:50PM EST (link)Not because it isn’t abjectly dishonest, because it is. Not because it’s as transparent as a game of three card ante in Central Park, because it’s that too. It’s because I’ve come to the conclusion that Fox’s Judge Andrew Napolitano is correct that any clauses prohibiting illegal aliens from getting health care under the plan will be ruled unconstitutional by SCOTUS. Similarly, SCOTUS having defined the right to abortion as a civil right on par with the right to free speech, it will rule any portion of the bill which prohibits funding of abortion unconstitutional. So it just wouldn’t matter anyway, even if you got 60% of both houses of Congress to approve honest language. The only way to stop the government from funding abortion is to not pass ANY of those kinds of reforms.

That would be an absurd

The key element is the creation of a government obligation to a person. That element is clearly evident in the bill. Since under legal logic, the person has a protected right to abortion, and the government is now entangling itself in providing health care, the government therefore has an obligation to ensure people can engage in the protected civil right.
Please note that I whole-heartedly agree with you that on a common sense level this is absurd. I’m just saying that given the verbal jujitsu the court has engaged in to make words mean the opposite of their ordinary meaning when it comes to abortion, we need to anticipate it will do the same when (not if) a case calling for the government to pay for abortions or at least abortion coverage as part of the health care package comes before it.

Not quite
Menlo Thursday, November 5th at 1:38AM EST (link)The court has consistently approved the exclusion of abortion funding as seen with the Hyde Amendment. You may recall Harry Blackmun’s “let them eat cake” dissent.
I would not be surprised though if the lower-level courts, stacked with Obama nominees, defy that precedent. The Supreme Court is now only a figurehead.
The Democrats’ “justification” is that the only way to remove funding would be to prohibit its coverage from any insurance anyone can get. If true, then they would only be acknowledging their complete, rather than partial, takeover of health care.
I don’t know about illegals but it will not matter much since they plan to legalize them before the bill takes full effect.

KILL THE BILL
DerKrieger Wednesday, November 4th at 10:52PM EST (link)There isn’t a single part of this disaster that can be supported. We can’t allow ourselves to be distracted by pieces and parts, i.e. abortion, immigrant coverage, the ‘public option’, death panels, etc. We shouldn’t support anything other than free market solutions that REDUCE government involvement in health care.
I was watching O’Reilly this evening and he had George Stephanopolous on who said (paraphrase), “Americans want the government to do something…”.
This is the unshakable misconception in the brains of our would be masters. Most Americans in fact DON’tT want the government to do “something” but would prefer they do nothing at all except get out of our lives and out of our way.
Georgy boy unwittingly expressed the beltway mentality that they believe we need their help. How the Hell do we get it through their thick skulls that they are dead wrong?

NRLC: vote for Pelosi "rule" is vote for federal abortion-funding program
douglasjohnson Thursday, November 5th at 12:29AM EST (link)WASHINGTON (November 4, 2009, 7 PM EST) The House Democratic leadership today announced that it will propose a “Rule” on the health care bill, H.R. 3962, that will insert language proposed by Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-In.), and exclude a House vote on an amendment proposed by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mi.). The House is expected to vote on the “rule” late Friday or early Saturday. The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in all 50 states, supports the Stupak Amendment and opposes the pro-abortion Ellsworth-Waxman-Pelosi language. NRLC issued the following statement, which may be attributed to NRLC Legislative Director Douglas Johnson.
“Any House member who votes for the Pelosi rule is voting to establish a federal government insurance plan, the public option, that the bill explicitly authorizes to pay for all elective abortions. When a federal agency pays for abortions, that is federal funding of abortion in reality, whatever contrived labels Speaker Pelosi or her acolytes slap over it. The Ellsworth language is a political fig leaf made out of cellophane — it directs the federal Secretary of Health to hire a contractor to deliver to abortion providers the payments for elective abortions, payments that are explicitly authorized by the bill [on page 110]. This is a money-laundering scheme — a federally funded ‘bag man’ will deliver government funds to abortionists. This is federal funding of elective abortion.”
NRLC’s objections to the abortion-related provisions of H.R. 3962 are explained in detail in a letter sent to House members on November 2, posted here (or in PDF format, here).

Seriously, I never expected abortion not to be covered in any form of Democratic bill. So far, my expectations have been met. They do think we’re clueless and stupid and intend to keep us that way. Unfortunately for them, the internet is not cooperating with them.
Everything they do is about changing the word without changing the intent. I remember during one of Obama’s campaign interviews he said, “Words mean something.”
We now have a pocket dictionary’s worth of words that no longer mean what they used to mean, as the something they mean is whatever the Democrats want them to mean.

It doesn't matter what THIS bill says about either
mbecker908 Thursday, November 5th at 7:51AM EST (link)abortion or immigration. If there was a line in the bill that says “under no circumstance will any abortion be paid for in any way whatsoever and you’ve got to prove US citizenship to be eligible for ANY benefit from this bill…” I’d still oppose it.
Anything that passes this Congress will be tweeked in the future to include both abortion and illegals. It will just be an amendment to a “must pass” bill that can’t be filibustered.

No to Abortion Money Laundering Scheme
john_barry Thursday, November 5th at 5:46PM EST (link)Thank you for exposing the reality of the Brad Ellsworth Abortion Money -laundering Scheme. The Herods in the Democratic Party want the taxpayer to finance the slaughter of the innocents. They are crying to Heaven for vengeance. Obama, Pelosi, Biden are no different from Hitler. Just substitute the unborn for the Jews. This is history repeating itself. Abortion is the modern holocaust. The abortion clinics are the new concentration camps. For the Nazis substitute the Democrats. Finally it is well to remember that infanticide was one of the reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire.
No to death panels. No to taxpayer funded abortion. No to national bankruptcy. No to Socialism. Thank God for the GOP. This Bill must bite the dust. Lobby Lobby Lobby.
