George and Jeb Bush to Hold Rubio Fundraiser

This is great news.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s sons plans to hold a private fundraiser for insurgent GOP Senate candidate Marco Rubio next month, Rubio told Fox News.

The active involvement of George P. Bush and Jeb Bush Jr. in the race raises the possibility that their father could endorse Rubio down the road and give his campaign added momentum against the GOP front-runner, Gov. Charlie Crist.

Jeb Bush, who has dismissed suggestions he’ll support Rubio, still is enormously popular in the state, with a recent poll pegging his approval rating at 70 percent, outshining Crist. His backing could help Rubio offset Crist’s considerable fundraising advantage.

Crist and Rubio, former speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, are facing off to fill the Senate seat vacated by former Sen. Mel Martinez.

Governor Bush is incredibly popular in Florida still, with over 70% of Republicans in Florida saying they’d rather him than Crist. Likewise, over 50% of independent women say Jeb is a better governor.

In addition to Governor Bush, both of his sons remain quite popular in Florida and especially among conservatives, where they have been refreshingly candid in their support of small government and freedom.

Having their support in and of itself is great, but it is also pretty clearly a tacit endorsement from their dad.

This get even more momentum going in Rubio’s direction.

Life just keeps getting better and better. WE will lose a battle here and there but I truly believe that WAR will be WON by Conservatives!

…will switch parties and run as a Dem against Rubio.

This is good news. I hope panic is setting in among Crist and his supporters.

Why yes, yes it is, I do believe.

Wait for the next desperation move from Crist and Company. I’m sure the St. Petersburg Liberal Times will be happy to help.

    …And I still don’t agree with him.

Charlie Crist is a liar and a deceitful politician. His campaign has been caught twice now doing dirty tricks against Marco Rubio. Setting up fake websites claiming to be Rubio’s websites saying nasty things against Crist trying to make it look like Rubio was playing nasty and calling Crist Hitler. Too bad Crist’s assistant forgot to take his … Read Morename off the files used to set up the web sites. I will NEVER vote for him again and wish I had known the first time around. He’s acting like a scared kid with no idea how to campaign properly and feels he has to rely on deciet to get ahead.

George 1 == George Herbert Walker Bush, #41
    George 2 == George Walker Bush, #43

George P. Bush == Jeb’s son, #43′s nephew, #41′s grandson. Thus, not the same as George 1 or George 2.

Now, maybe George P. is as much of a squish as #41, or as much of a fiscal liberal (“When people are hurting, government has got to move”) as #43; I dunno. But that’s not what Scope was saying.

I am a bit nervous with us holding that seat

…candidates don’t seem to have many discernible differences. Kinda ruins the whole concept of choice doesn’t it.
I always shake my head at the Dems who flee from their liberal states and come to Florida for jobs or to escape punitive taxes but then act, cry and vote the same way they did up north that ended up causing them to leave in the first place. How dense do you have to be?
Go home and quit ruining Florida!

But that might just be wishful thinking.

The Bush family rolodex of donors is the news here. As far as benefiting from endorsements, I think the Bush kids probably get more out of being in proximity to Rubio than the other way around.

The 41 & 43 bashing has gotten old. Very old.

May even show an oscillation pendulum-like swing in the other direction-in which case it’ll be advantageous.

And you forgot to remind us how bullish you are on Charlie Crist.

The momentum is with Rubio. With the obvious lying and the people around him slowly revealing themselves as corrupt and underhanded, Crist is looking more and more like a bad choice.

Thank you! I would have totally missed that if you hadn’t of posted.

Wow RS is awesome. Now when I hear something political in the news clips on the radio for the first time in my life I have a clue. I heard about the unemployment extension about 2 weeks ag that will be voted on and I remembered Mike posting about that this summer so I knew what they were talking about. I know he posted a diary too but this was right before that. :)

the north part of FL closer to the AL border? This is a very red area and they should be introduced to him. I think the counties in the Northwest part are the most red in FL. There are A LOT of retired military too.

  • Darin_H

This is better than an endorsement right now. First you hold a ‘private’ fundraiser, I put that in quotes because the event itself will be private, but it’s already in the news so Rubio can get a bit of mileage out of it right now (a defacto endorsement). Then next year Jeb can come out and endorse Rubio. Of course I expect Crist to have dropped out of the race by then :)

  • mom2oneson

I know I’ve gotten at least one email “from” Jeb and it was for Rubio as part of Rubios email list.
