Does This Mean Newsweek Stands in For the Nazis?*

Hot Air brings us word that Newsweek is declaring war on Sarah Palin. The magazine that has given up all pretense of objective news coverage and now caters to an ever shrinking Upper West Side Elite is making Palin the cover of Newsweek (PDF) with the title “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Sarah?” with the subheading “she’s bad news for the GOP — and everyone else too.”

There’s just one problem.

The title comes from “The Sound of Music” and the song “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?”

Maria, you see, was the hero and protagonist of the musical and, later, the movie.

And Maria was pursued by the Nazis.

Hmmmm . . . so if Palin is Maria and Newsweek is out to get her, perhaps Newsweeks’s red, black, and white masthead is appropriate.

*Sure, it was the nuns who sang the song, but the Nazis who were out to destroy her. And besides, we can’t really see Jon “God Supports Gay Marriage” Meacham as a nun.

Or does Sarah Palin get even more attractive every time she makes headlines?

They intentionally try to show unflattering pictures of her (remember the zoom-in on her eyebrows cover), as opposed to Obama who they airbrush to perfect, and still she is a knock-out.

I know this is off the point, but you can’t look at that cover shot without taking notice of how striking the mid-forties, mom of five is.

  • JadedByPolitics

that has proven to not be Sarah’s body at all! The leftist media tries and tries but she keeps coming back and making them crazier and crazier and I JUST LOVE HER FOR THAT :)

  • mom2oneson

Makeup and a good hair cut and color help anyone look better BUT some women have such nice features even age doesn’t really have an impact on how beautiful they are. Sara is definatley one of them! There is a lady in our pro-life group she has to be in her late 50s and she is just stunningly gorgeous.I think Michelle Bachman is beautiful too, Mrs. Thompson is gorgeous too, I think she is just adorable.

  • mom2oneson

Also these women look so good while working! They aren’t getting ready for hours and sitting aorund when we see them..some are photo shoots but many they are busy working when we see some of their pics. It all goes out the window for me about 20 minutes into my shift LOL!

  • Vegas_Rick

She holds no public office, has no bully pulpit and she has no authority what so ever.

Yet the looney left is just petrified of this woman.

    He he he

  • jeffreywturner

I thought she had posed for a piece about her in “Runner’s World” magazine a few weeks ago. That looks like a picture from that article. I certainly could be wrong though.

  • bs

That’s a real picture they took of her for some sort of runner’s magazine. You can see the whole set here

  • http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com katesmith

I saved a picture of the Feb. 2009 cover. They don’t seem to get the same coverage for claiming the current administration is socialist as others do.

come out of your dark hide-a-way and tell all of us why?

jumping the shark is an Understatement….geez

  • hickorystick

    1. Her elbow is not resting on the back of the stool. Holding this pose long enough for a professional photographer to take the shot defies physics
    2. Her state of dress is not consistent with how she has shown herself in public in the past.
    3. Her leaving a flag draped on the back of a stool as a prop requires a willful suspension of disbelief.
    4. There is a thick line along her thighs to cover pasting.
    5. Speaking of pasting, This time of year everyone looks a little pasty in Alaska, which is reasonable considering the 4 hours of weak sunlight per day at this latitude. But her thighs are tanned and her face is not.
    6. My strongest argument for it being phony though, is she is not holding an AK-47 with crazed look on her face, which anyone knows marks the photo as authentic.

    …has some ‘splainin’ to do!

Look, I know we like to know what the other side is thinking, but we can get that from TNR. At least they have the pretense of being an opinion mag. Newsweak still lies to us and tells us it’s a news magazine.

Time to cancel, guys. Hit ‘em where it hurts.

  • $peciallist

This is an attack on positive female role-models….wtf?

  • Leopard1996

Supposedly she is nothing, and doesn’t contribute anything to the conversation, but they constantly want to attack her at every turn.

I can only think of one of two reasons

    1. They are scared.

    2. Since she that temerity to accept the VP nod from their opponent, (which by the way they setup), she must be destroyed.

Whichever it is, this smacks of the McCarthyism that liberals love to cry about any time they look back to the 1950s

  • colefty

All credibility is lost when you compare things to the Nazis or facism, or whatever the hyper-extreme, meaningless word of the day you choose to use. Can’t you integrate any meaningful analysis into this blog?

  • larryp

has more pages than NewsWeak does. I picked up a copy from the rack at my dentists office. I was shocked at how skimpy it was. I looked to see if it was the “ad supplement”

waaay back during the Carter administration. Then during the Reagan years I began to see the bias they took over his policies. So I dropped them. Scanning Newsweak articles in doctors’ offices looking for an alternate news magazine to subscribe to during that time showed me how birds of a feather truly flock together.

Thus began my conversion to conservatism, even though during the 80′s I still held out for “voting for the man, not the party”.

I don’t know, maybe there were some conservative Democrats back then. There certainly isn’t now. There isn’t much in the way of “fair and balanced” news magazines, either. As the Newsweak Palin article suggests, their bias is getting worse all the time.

  • jeffreywturner

We should have at least one bogus posting about Palin every few days, just to rope them all in so we can ban them all at once.

  • Third Street

Most sensible people would take the assertion that Palin is “bad news for the GOP” to mean that the party can’t win with her around. If the party can’t win with her, she can’t be elected to national office. If she can’t be elected to national office, she has no power to affect policy. So how can she be bad for the GOP and bad for “everyone else too” all at the same time?

    Stupid communists.

  • davecatbone

Really, if she was such a danger for the GOP, the Leftists would be smiling behind their hands and egging her on. They are scared silly of this woman.

  • rfpzzzzz

I don’t know much about the picture and I have nothing to do with Newsweek. I do know that John Meachum passes himself off as a Christian paragon who loves left wing ideology. I have listened to him a bit and he appears to be just another liberal media phony creep , He seems to going after the minuscule MSNBC audience so he is just another Olberman and thus his magazine is never to be purchased or quoted as honest information.

  • Rod_Patrick

Mom, I know what you are talking about. Just yesterday I was at a big holiday craft fair where there were literally thousands of women. There I saw something very often that I had not noticed before.

I saw a lot of cases where there were older women who were obviously with their daughters. The daughters, mostly in their twenties, were dressed like crap, out of shape and the middle aged mothers all looked better than the daughters!

I wonder why this is happening so often.

  • Tbone

if she wants it. She just overshadows every other candidate. If over the next 2 years she continues appearing on talk shows, news shows and in public, the fake MSM narrative of her will be dispelled. Her political power was demonstrated in NY-23. She lead and the money and other endorsements followed.

The right is full of deniers but our enemy is telling us which of our warriors they fear the most. We should listen to them.

  • blooch

    This can’t end well.

America needs to actually HEAR her words. Were I live the radio has Obama on every few minutes. I can’t get to the radio fast enough to turn him off. If I was an advertiser I ‘d sure consider my ad dollars as I am not alone.
adsare not heard as the radiosare off when Obama is speaking.
We went for 8 yrs and virtually never heard GWB speak. Oh, the newsreaders would say what he said but it was like a blackout for his voice.
Now even on good talk radio we have Obama crammed dn our throat every break for traffic and at the half hr and hour. It is ridiculous. That ah doesn’t know a freaking thing.
Therefore the news media will start the same balckout of Palin in her own words. They will all do it because all the news depts are all libs, imo.
So Palin needs to do daily podcasts and internet talks. Someplace where for free it can be listened to during the day or night or dn load to an MP3 type device. And maybe emailed too.

  • mom2oneson

First of all your a good man to attend a craft fair! :)

I think it’s a comination of things. I’m guessing most women at a craft fair were the type of that are open to having children. So the ones in their 20s probably had small kids. It’s hard to workout and lose weight when your up several times a night with a nursing baby for years on end or try to exercise with preschoolers. I’m not against fast food but combine no exercise with fast food or a lot of processed food there isn’t much hope for weight loss after pregnancy. A lot do not know how to cook so they depend on frozen, processed or it’s just due to time with running kids around to activities. The 40 and 50 year olds you saw probably have a lot more time without young kids to workout, groom, probably more $ to spend on their own clothing. Some women are just beautiful though. hey could wear anything and look gorgeous. :) The rest of us have to put some effort into just looking presentable or to maintain our weight with exercise and if there isn’t time it doesn’t happen.

Most of the women I know with kids under 18 that always look great as far as hair and makeup are usually married to wealthy men, I don’t know if wealthy men tend to marry beautiful women or if they just have more money for things like getting their hair cut and buying clothing and a gym membership vs a woman that can’t really spend too much on herself time or moneywise while her kids are young. So maybe it’s a combination of fatigue, poor eating habits and finances? We play basketball at a church, most of the families are affluent, and most of the moms are in their 40s and they look amazing, even on a Monday night at 7 pm in a church gym.I think when a lot of women start having babies it’s like when a man turns 50 it’s easy to get heavy if you don’t workout.

I have seen some obese young people with no responsibilities. I have NO idea how to explain that when it’s so prevalent. Some may have a metabolic disease (like thyroid or diabetes) that makes them gain easily but I’m sure that isn’t the case for all of them.

    This is kind of funny

It will be like Old Home Week in Anchorage.

Still, my betting is 50% that Palin wises up and offers the old coot a job as head of Oppo.

    Best move she could make.

Come on, Sarah. We folks at C4P already know you read RedState. Give it up. You know you need Art. Every successful candidate needs someone who is willing to give them the finger when the chips are down in order to tell them the truth.

  • Warrior

    to any organization…

  • Warrior

    hee hee hee

  • Achance

that would have to be SOME offer and a very clear understanding about who was responsible and accountable for what. Sarah ain’t much on those contrary opinions and is a real control freak, neither of which I find inviting. So, I learned long ago that everybody including me has a price and there is probably a price that would buy me, but it would be very, very dear.

  • Rod_Patrick

AChance can sermon Sarah Palin about her mistakes while Governor. Of course, Sarah can fight back. After that, they can end up on the same platoon of Patriots against the Fascists in Washington. EE can take the role of the moderator.

What a glorious sight will it be, doncha think? You betcha.

Besides, GOP is better off when Alaskan Conservatives join forces.

There’s a greater DEMON in Washington that needs to be defeated ASAP. UNITED, WE CAN WIN AGAINST THE DEMON.

Disclaimer: I haven’t read the Newsweak article, and have no intention of doing so. It would merely give them money due to another hit to claim for their advertisers. My comments are based on what I’ve gleaned from other readers so far.

It’s obvious why Palin scares the donks, but Newsweak is partly rightif they are saying that Palin scares Republicans as well. She terrifies the Beltway GOP, who have drifted far left from conservatism. Look at McCain, who they pushed strongly. He’s nowhere near the conservative that most voters want. But he was what the Beltway GOP wanted. Same with Scozzafava (sp?). That’s why Palin supported Hoffman, Dede got hammered and eventually dropped, while lending her endorsement to the Dem. Beltway pushes Charlie Crist – another RINO. Heck, even GWB was nothing even resembling a conservative on many issues (but at least held the line on most of the social ones).

I’ll readily admit that there are still many issues for which I need far greater clarification from Palin, to know whether she is really the best for the GOP. I can definitely opine that she’s by far the best of the lot I’ve seen so far, and she’s got incredible presence and charisma. Best of all, though – she’s got guts to stand up against the Beltway GOP. Sadly, it’s also why she almost certainly will not get a far shake from anyone – except the people with the real power, the VOTERS!
