And yet, somehow I doubt this soldier heard any cracks from the former President about what a great photo-op it was.

Third Street Thursday, November 19th at 5:30PM EST (link)Bush, as a decent guy, was elected in part as a reaction to the absolute lack of class displayed by his predecessor on a regular basis.
It’s sad we have to learn that lesson all over again.

joejharvey Thursday, November 19th at 5:36PM EST (link)The way President Bush went to Ft Hood with Mrs. Bush shows the difference between them and the Obamas.
Obama goes and magically has tons of photographers there in the middle of the night and it is all over every MSM channel the next day. But it was really about the troops, yeah right.
The Bush’s go to Ft Hood and hardly a peep. There were no huge press releases and live feeds to the media. There wasn’t any of that press because that wouldn’t have done any of the Ft Hood-ers a bit of good. It was truly about the wounded and grieving.
Somehow I’m pretty sure that the Bush’s get all they need from the thank you’s they get from the troops. I know I’m glad my commissioning papers have his name on them.

My first enlistment...
Erick Brockway Thursday, November 19th at 6:37PM EST (link)I swore the oath under Carter.
After active duty I took 12 years off to grow up and figure out I wasn’t finished with military life, so after WTC 1 I came back in as a reservist, swearing oath twice under Clinton.
When finally under GW Bush I reenlisted and took the oath, it was after 9/11 and after my stint in Iraq.
It was for the first time I was finally able to say with pride “…the President of the United States…”
GW bush was an awesome CinC, and remains so today.
Saddest day for me was when his picture came down off our Chain of Command wall to be replaced by a huge unknown but suspect individual.
No longer suspect, it’s confirmed. I’m saddened, but hey; I retire this year after 20.
Now if I can just get a letter from my former CinC to be read at the ceremony it would be awesome.

nessa Thursday, November 19th at 7:22PM EST (link)I was in thru the Clinton years, many is the day I fumed and chafed with my disgust at a CinC who had to debate the definition of the word “is.”
Then I got to serve under a CinC who truly was a Commander in Chief. I was proud to execute every mission I and my men were sent on.
I was fortunate enough to sit in the third row during one of his speeches at Ft Bragg. When he was done and made his way around the room shaking hands I saw him look down and read each person’s nametag, we were in Class A’s, then his eyes would travel to the sleeve or shoulder board, then he would speak to the person he was shaking hands with. When it was my turn his eyes followed the path I had already noticed, then he looked me squarely in the eyes and he said, “Thank you for what you do Master Sergeant nessa.” His eyes belied the truth of his feelings, he honestly and unabashedly met my gaze. I’m not ashamed to say I teared up. For all his faults elsewhere, he was a Commander I am proud to have served under.

janis Thursday, November 19th at 8:07PM EST (link)I got to know a lot of Marine families from 2004 onward and I know that most of them felt the same way that you did about President Bush. They might not have agreed with all of his decisions, but they never doubted that he was utterly committed to the cause and to always having their back.
The only thing wrong with that picture is that it makes one realize all over again how completely impoverished is the soul of one Barrack Hussein Obama.
I was in for the whole Carter debacle...
Vegas_Rick Thursday, November 19th at 8:57PM EST (link)and I retired under Clinton.
But I had the rare privilege of serving under one of our greatest Presidents. Ronald Reagan made every soldier, I knew, proud to serve.

Brian Johnson Thursday, November 19th at 9:40PM EST (link)That picture had me choking back tears.
For our soldiers who were wounded and killed in an act of domestic terrorism that had no business happening.
In seeing President Bush truly caring about the men and women who selflessly serve our country with honor and dignity. President Bush is 100% class act.
And for my country, who is led by a man, an administration, and a congress who couldn’t give a flying fruitbasket about this great country and the men and women who made it, and keep it, the greatest country on the planet.
To say that Obama, Holder, Reid, and Pelosi disgust me is a huge understatement. May the join the ranks of the increasing unemployed they’ve helped wrought very soon….
All you Bush-bashers remember this.
jeffreywturner Thursday, November 19th at 10:13PM EST (link)When you are railing on and complaining about how “terrible” he was and how he “sold out” conservatives by being soft on illegals or failing to curb domestic spending initiatives, just remember how good he was at the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of the job; being Commander in Chief of the mightiest fighting force the world has ever known.
“Life is too short, can’t we all just eat pork and kill some terrorists?”

Hooah_Mac Thursday, November 19th at 10:29PM EST (link)It was always evident that he understood what we went through and who we were. He was always proud of us, and respected us.
Whatever anyone may ever say about the man, he is a rock star among the troops, because we knew we could believe in him and we knew he had our backs. It is that much more meaningful given the contrast with his successor.

Thank you, Mr. President.
SoFiMil Thursday, November 19th at 11:19PM EST (link)While Obama will receive polite applause from the troops, he will never get the “Ooh-rah!” welcome that Bush always received.
Even when I disagreed with Bush, I knew he wasn’t watching the polls. He is a man of genuine decency and really was a compassionate conservative. While I disagreed with Bush on his domestic agenda, I was pleased with his social and military policy commitments, despite taking several steps back from the Bush Doctrine in his last few years in office.
As for his fiscal policies, I saw them as a tradeoff in which he expended his political capital on the Global War on Terror, FISA, etc., and therefore did not have the political capital to fight for conservative fiscal policies apart from his admirable commitment to lowering taxes.

proudmarinemom Friday, November 20th at 12:30AM EST (link)I am still annoyed with Bush and Cheney for their infuriating refusal to defend themselves and their policies during the last few years, but it is good to see George and Laura in a wonderful photo, doing the right thing for our troops.
I spent some time at the hospital bedsides of two of my son’s Marine buddies in Bethesda after his unit was attacked in Ramadi in early 2008. It’s not easy to do.
My son called last night to say he’s been asked to go on deployment # 3. Afghanistan this time. “What do you think, Mom?”
Sigh. What do I think? “I think you’re a great Marine, hun.”
“Some moms spend their entire lives wondering if smacking their sons up the side of the head ever made a difference. Marine Moms don’t have that problem.”
I'm still seething mad at Bush for that, and likely I'll never forgive him for it. But ...

SoFiMil Friday, November 20th at 8:10AM EST (link)Proud Marine Mom and MK, your comments remind me of one of my favorite posts by Barack’ s hilarious teleprompter:
We absolutely hate Cheney. Not because he was a more than competent vice president, or because he could make a speech without sticking his foot in his mouth, or because he had better hair plugs than Joey B., but because he just doesn’t seem to care about us, the Obama Administration. I mean, what gives? We bait him, pay a lot of attention to him, offer to make him a political bogeyman for years to come - attention someone like Newt Gingrich would kill for - and what do we get in return? Nada. It’s like he has better things to do with his time.
