I sent faxes today
snopercod Friday, November 20th at 9:21PM EST (link)I sent handwritten faxes today to both my senators. The lines were busy at first, but the faxes went through within ten minutes.
I’m going to send another tomorrow to our democrat senator reading:
“Mary Landrieu got $100 million for her vote. How much do you charge?”
Oh, the reason for the *handwritten* fax is that if you send one written on a word processor, it gets OCRd and their computer scans it for buzzwords and simply adds a bean to either the “yes” or “no” count. A handwritten fax has to be actually read by a human being.
Voice mail box is full!
Muck Friday, November 20th at 10:02PM EST (link)I called Senator Ben Nelson at all numbers available, and all message boxes are full…can’t even leave a message. I’ve sent two emails. This smells like Immigration Reform.
I don't think
DerKrieger Friday, November 20th at 10:27PM EST (link)…these Democrats will take We the People seriously without violent action. They obviously don’t fear us.
I fully believe that many Democrats have been paid off to vote for this monstrosity. And I don’t mean a payoff to their states in the form of pork. I mean a personal payoff in cash or in the promise of a lucrative government job when they lose their seats next year.
I think many won’t even run for reelection and will announce their retirements within the next few months. There must be a way to utterly destroy these “representatives’” lives so that they can’t find gainful employment.

I couldn't get through on the phone but I sent emails to Webb and Warner.

penguin2 Saturday, November 21st at 10:16AM EST (link)Landrieu of LA. and Lincoln of Arkansas to come on board. They apparently have the rest of the votes to proceed to debate the bill. Supposedly once they go on to discuss and amend the final bill, all these other issues will be resolved to the satisfaction of the Dems who have an issue here and there, and then they have done it.
Liberman is onboard to consider the bill, but in the end they will only need a simple majority of 51 votes for final passage, not the 60 needed now. So there will be Senators that can bale on final passage and get away with it, though they allowed it to happen to begin with.

Menlo, are you saying they need a vote to end debate?
penguin2 Saturday, November 21st at 12:15PM EST (link)So they need 60 to start and 60 again to stop debate, but still need only 51 for final passage? Now that is interesting. How many votes will be required for the amendments that are going to come up? Do you think there is any hope that they will have a couple with integrity to not end debate, to keep it from passing? The wheeling and dealing going on seems to make that a distant dream.

Yes
Menlo Saturday, November 21st at 2:38PM EST (link)They need and already have 60 votes to begin debate tonight. Trying to stop that is a waste of time. After that, amendments will be proposed. They will require 60 to pass. 60 votes are then required on a final Senate version. Lieberman, Nelson, and others have said they will not be a part of that 60 votes to end debate if changes are not made (we’ll see), even though they are voting in favor of starting debate.
Even then, barring the budget reconciliation scheme, they will need 60 votes after reconciliation with the House version.

The reluctant holdouts
Common_Cents Saturday, November 21st at 4:38PM EST (link)Are they really going to hold out and not vote to end debate or are they just looking for some cover and perhaps some more payola ?
Leaders don’t create movements, movements create leaders.
Who knows?
Menlo Saturday, November 21st at 5:47PM EST (link)Liberman said he would oppose the so-called “public option;” Nelson said he would oppose if abortion funding weren’t removed (and that would lack 50 votes let alone 60). Unless they end up with some sort of “trigger” and then trade Nelson’s vote for Snowe’s, then either the bill will fail, or Nelson will have lied.
Those are the only ones I have read about who have committed firmly to voting no on ending debate if specific changes not made. All the others have wavered and are probably looking for cover.

And, of course, I’m making a HUGE leap of faith here in assuming that saner minds will take charge at some point soon. Why won't Senator Coburn have the bill read on the Senate floor?
SoFiMil Saturday, November 21st at 10:59AM EST (link)…or any of the other 39 Republicans for that matter. They owe us that much.
All we need is for one Senator to ask that it be read. While estimates varied, the low end estimate was that it would take 35 hours to be read aloud. Every American should have a reasonable amount of time to read this bill first. Even those of us who started reading the bill the moment Reid finally formally submitted it and posted it on line have not had time to finish reading it.

The more time we have to read it, the more we'll find Louisiana Purchase line-item type matters.
