EDITOR OF REDSTATE

DNC Sends Out Oppo Research About Me to a Berkeley Grad Who Works for a Newspaper That Rooted for the Terrorists in Iraq

I was a bit annoyed that the reporter working the DNC hit job on me didn’t bother calling me first, but then I read the dude’s bio and just felt sorry for him — the guy’s got the career trajectory of an anvil tossed out of a hot air balloon.

In any event, the Democratic National Committee sent out oppo research on me (!!!) to join Jim DeMint and me at the hip in South Carolina. This is, by the way, the same DNC that accused Eric Cantor of stoking nazism.

Democrats have seized on DeMint’s affiliation with Erickson to attack the senator. Democratic aides e-mailed links to controversial statements the blogger has made on redstate.com and in other conservative forums.

. . . .

Susan McManus, a political science professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa, said Democrats’ linking of DeMint with Erickson is similar to Republicans’ bid last year to tie Obama to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the president’s former minister in Chicago who’d bitterly criticized the United States in fiery sermons.

Obama, though, distanced himself from Wright, while DeMint continues to use Erickson’s army of followers to reach conservative activists.

(By the way, the reporter didn’t even spell my name right.)

Rosen, the McClatchy “journalist” parroting the DNC talking points into a poorly edited story, circulated a number of things on the internets trying to tie DeMint to me. One was the rather unfortunate Souter tweet I made and another tweet was the Nobel affirmative action one, which let’s face it, just hacks the left off because it was so dead on target. But the other three things Rosen was circulating were not things I had written, but things leftists had written mischaracterizing stuff I had written. Nice! All in a day’s work for a Berkeley grad.

What is really flattering about all of this though is that I am a thirty-four year old guy in Macon, Georgia with a laptop and the Democratic National Committee is so terrified of me it has to release oppo research on me to a sympathetic Berkeley grad. That’s not just flattering, that’s awesome.

Still, it is a bit annoying to be compared to Jeremiah Wright. I’m sure it is too difficult for a Berkeley grad and a left-leaning professor from a second tier school to distinguish, but unlike Rev. Wright, I don’t hate the United States and have never made disparaging remarks about the United States.

That a reporter for McClatchy, a newspaper known to harbor anti-American sentiments and support for the terrorists against American soldiers in Iraq (see here, here, here, here, and here), and a DNC oppo researcher grasping at straws think the comparison is a good fit shows just how much the left really does hate this country — where criticism of leftwing icons and support for freedom are deemed too offensive for polite society that those views must be equated with the views of a man who actually loathes his country. The irony, of course, is that Mr. Rosen and the DNC have no problem with Jeremiah Wright at all, but know the country does.

Beyond that though, Rosen and the DNC really have no idea how Jim DeMint operates. Senator DeMint is not using my “army of followers to reach conservative activists.” He’s Jim DeMint. He doesn’t need me. But I’m happy to help. How desperate must the DNC be to mount a hit job via a sympathetic Berkeley grad tying Jim DeMint to a 34 year old blogger?!

Lastly, James Rosen and the DNC clearly do not watch the Simpsons.

Senator DeMint that is so freaking AWESOME and secondly how freaking AWESOME is it that Senator DeMint is being linked to Erick Erickson of Redstate the home of the Conservative GRASSROOTS!!!

So the DNC thinks tying a Senator or Congressman to Redstate is a bad thing? REALLY? The same DNC that had ALL of its Presidential candidates show up to a Kos convention with anti-Semites and racists and just truly FOUL MOUTHED animals? I will suggest that the DNC is truly stepped off the sanity train.

I wish Senator DeMint came by here and could see how much WE love him and RESPECT him for his Conservative stands. He is one Senator that has NEVER made me feel Jaded!

Comparing you to Jeremiah Wright is beyond ridiculous, not to mention insulting. Mr. Wright is a hateful, bigoted, bitter man and an anti-American extremist.

Erick Erickson is neither of these things, he’s simply a passionate conservative who actually takes action and tries to change what he sees as wrong. And I have ample admiration for that. There are too many of us just sitting around complaining without doing much.

That being said, the affirmative action/Nobel Peace Prize remark you made a while back was unfortunate and in very poor taste. I remember sending you an email about it and never getting a response in return.

We’ve all said misguided things in the past. None of us is perfect. But to continue to stand by that remark, in my opinion, is a mistake.

See, I never meant “race based” affirmative action and had a column in Congressional Quarterly directly related to it.

I realize some people jump directly to race when it comes to affirmative action, but affirmative action is applicable to many things. In this case, if you look at the past few years’ winners, it is clear the Nobel Peace Prize operates under an affirmation action policy whereby American leaders who hate America get preferred treatment.

    Carter . . . Gore . . . etc.

Anyway, meant to send that to you when it published, but then I forgot.

“Susan McManus, a political science professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa”

yeah i live in tampa and the local talk station uses her from time to time… and i could get better political insight from one of my kitchen appliances.

  • ericstenner

All he has to do is release a statement saying “I have never heard Erick Erickson say anything conservative in the time I spent with him. I can no sooner disown him than I could a member of my own family.”

That will work – there is precedent for it.

  • billyd

Great job Erick. You’ve become a big enough threat for the DNC to target you.

You may want to send a thank you card to this Rosen guy for the free plug of redstate.com and all of Demint’s fund raising arms.

  • Achance

    Congratulations, Erick; you done good!

Let’s see, America hater, no. Maybe reverse racism? No, that’s not it either. Ahhh… you must be a reverend! I knew you had a Sunday school class, but you never said you were a Reverend!

OK, now that the snark is over, dittos what Art said.

  • martellus

Lets be real here. If it was not for the football team the University of South Florida would be a community college.

  • DrOldSchool

They spelled her name wrong too. It’s Susan MacManus. I’ve read many of her co-authored journal pieces before, particularly in the area of disaster management. In fact, I wrote a dissertation that in part rips on her and her partner’s findings.

In short, I’d expect nothing less than total bs from her, and that is what we see here in her comparison between Erick and Wright. I’m sure one of these days we’ll cross paths at a conference, and this little quote of hers will not be forgotten.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

You’ve become a face of the conservative movement. You appear frequently on TV as a conservative voice; one well liked and with sound arguments and statements. It’s expected and saddening.

If they would spend half the time they’re spending on conservatives to fight our real enemies, they would be a formidable force for good. People who want to kill us simply for existing in freedom aren’t the enemies. We are the enemy and we must be destroyed by any means necessary.

Jim DeMint does need you as do all the conservative voices in Washington. They need vocal, visible, and unabashed conservatives like you to be on their side and we RedStaters are your army whether you like it or not.

    this part

“I am a thirty-four year old guy in Macon, Georgia with a laptop…”

will be the reason they take our internet away from us…nice work Erick! /sarc

also, their comparison of you to the Rev. is doubly insulting inasmuch as they also compared DeMint to Obama…

And Susie is a true intellectual lightweight, a left-of-center “expert” on politics who believes that drawing moral equivalencies between non-equal things will somehow boost her Fairness Quotient, and thereby get her more opportunities to blather and publish. Typical cloudy-headed university elitist.

Whenever I hear her opining on the radio, I realize that when she’s done talking I will know less about the subject than I did before she began.

  • http://impudent.blognation.us/blog kyle8

    keep up the good work.

  • Marcus_Traianus

Wow, talk about trying to imply that by association we are a bunch of extremists. I guess you are leading a flock of killer, psycho sheep Erick- always ready to pounce and make that stinging bite once DeMint gives the command.

How ridiculously incompetent, dishonest and desperate can these folks be to write such articles. If Rosen, et al only knew half of the people on this site, it would be fairly easy to realize they just insulted a majority of Americans. But then again, they don’t really care what America thinks (e.g. Stimulus, health care, bail outs, apology tours, unemployment, higher taxes, bigger government…..)

  • DamnCat

“…unlike Rev. Wright, I don?t hate the United States and have never made disparaging remarks about the United States”

This is precisely what condemns you in the eyes of the DNC and most Berkeley students.

When I read it I could not believe what I was reading. It truly means that you have “arrived” and that you are getting under their skin in a way that is driving them crazy! I love it.

you have truly made it in the conservative world. One of the only people in the Senate, or House for that matter that I have much respect and admiration for is Jim DeMint. He is one of the only ones willing to use his voice, and isn’t spineless. Your name could be attached to a lot worse. Comparing you to Rev. Wright is just a cheap shot, and not worthy of your dignity to respond to. It’s actually funny that they compare you to someone the left had no problem with.

I had an interesting phone call with a Campaign Manager in my area, working for an unappologitic and unquestionable conservative candidate. He had said that he tought Erick Erickson, with his constant support for Hoffman on the Redstate site, was the one he felt was responsible for gaining the most support for Hoffman, more so than anyone else. That is how you are viewed Erick out here in the real world. He will be contacting you when you are in Washington this week, and, I respectfully ask if you would consider giving him an interview. It is an important local race, and, we can beat one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the House, but, only with the right candidate. The Democrat has tons of Soros money behind him.

and The O’s twenty year relationship with that racist. Now if Erick had a relationship as well with an American terrorist bomber things would start to get dicey, but then, liberals had no problem with that either.

No, what really bothers liberals is the itch they can’t get rid of, their own proximity and likeness to the names they call others. For example, Nazi. A lot of frustration there when you want to silence the opposition and you have limited imagination and less morals.

Re the Nazi thing; you may want to check out the back of the Weekly Standard, 11/23 issue. Gibbs whines about Nazi signs at tea parties, the Standard come up with at least fifty examples of the Bush/Hitler images. A small sample of eight years of pure bile.

Although they do waive their pacifist tendencies when contemplating what they’d like to do to US. So stay vigilant, you never know when you’ll be called on to go active duty. ;-)

Allowing for a little deception or soft pedaling that’s typical. You think they would root for their country?
Example, replay the whole Hasan thing, including Time’s “Terrorist?” cover.

to remember songs by Tom Lehrer about the Liberal Hippie Folk Song Army of the 1960s?

“We are The Folk Song Army,
Every one of us … cares,
We all hate poverty, war and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.”

    Well:

“We are The Red State Army,
    Everyone of us … cares,
We all hate people who hate our great country,
Like Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers.”

“You have enemies. Good. That means that some time in your life you stood up for something. “———-Winston Churchill

any press is good press at this point in the game. (gotcha!)

Noting you will drive traffic to all your sites.

Even one conversion is well-worth it. Someone may be talking about you over Christmas dinner and the whole family’s interest will be piqued, you never know.

I think McManus discredits herself because no matter how often we’ll try to walk through the looking glass, no one will find another Obama-Wright gig.

Second, her statement is seriously irrelevant, especially since the media (and mainstream America) cast off the Wright issue as they tried to come to terms with being trapped with the “choice”of Obama over McCain.

    What a dumb analogy.

    Congrats, E.

    Anyway, congrats!

RedState is playing a major role in the propagation of the conservative message. The fact that the DNC resorts to a hatchet job is an indication that you are succeeding in exposing the far left policies of the Socialists.

  • GregInFla

on the air that puts you in elite company. I pray it can be an enjoyable experience. You just need to make sure you don’t get run over any fire hydrants there in Macon.
