Attempted Al Qaeda Attack in the Air

Even the White House is calling this an attempted terror attack.

A man claiming to be operating on behalf of Al Qaeda tried to blow up a Delta Air Lines jet traveling from Amsterdam to Detroit today. Details are still unclear. It appears what he blew up before passengers tackled him was something akin to firecrackers.

Details, as we know them, suggest his plan did not go according to plan.

Thank God.

    Its obvious.

Barack was looking for an excuse to not spend ten straight days with his she-man, Michelle.

How convenient, the day he leaves for his vaction in Hawaii, he suddenlyhas to return back to Washington. I really dont blame him. Yes, its and abuse of power. But would you want to spand ten days shackled to Michelle?

    I thought not.

  • aelie

If this guy was truly an agent from Al Qaeda, this plane would never have arrived in Detroit. So this guy is a copycat criminal. This is all the more reason why we should eliminate Al Qaeda, instead of just containing it.

  • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

This event was first reported as “firecrackers” being set off on a plane – obviously a silly first report that ANY actual explosive made it on made it clear it would have been an attempt at something greater AND that it may have been a DIVERSION to something greater. Thus-far, there hasn’t seemed to have been any escalation.

  • http://www.ssce.net/Web-Articles/Web-articles-indexed-authors.html#authors-l JLenardDetroit

(Bojinka) I’d gone through that during my book research, and this has to be treated as a FIRST WAVE potential and/or that it was perhaps just “supposed” to be a test run of Security to see if the “New Explosive” packaging was capable of making onto flights for future plans and perhaps like the Philippines “test” that was also not supposed to leave evidence following its test. As the Aircraft was supposed to be felled over the Ocean condemning the evidence to the depths. One may wish to recall and reconsider the French Aircraft that went down off Brazil for those very reasons. This “Terrorist” may have FAILED to do the job properly when/where the plane should have been taken down, which provides us opportunity for better discovery of the Bomb composition and packaging.

YOU LEFTY BUFFOONS WANT TO WATER-BOARD NOW? OR JUST RISK YOUR FAMILY?!?!?

I mean, if I suddenly found out I was on a plane headed for Detroit, I might try to blow up myself too.

I’m not all that fond of the Sock Sniffing TSA folks, but I would hope that they go on a tear here in the US looking for kooks trying to do this sort of thing on domestic flights.

Amsterdam, it would appear is not so good at screening airline passengers for these sorts of terrorists, nor were the French with Richard Reid.

  • ericstenner

So the White House is calling this one terrorism because, thank God, nobody was seriously hurt. But when 13 people are murdered by an Islamic extremist we are not supposed to jump to conclusions.

Why are they not imploring everyone to be patient and find out what this poor Nigerian’s story is? I mean, he might have been under some kind of pressure or something.

    here

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. officials say a Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria said he was acting on behalf of al-Qaida when he tried to blow up a flight Friday as it landed in Detroit.

    [snip]

The motive of the Christmas Day attack was not immediately clear.

I, especially, don’t take any offence what-so-ever to the ribbing… As anyone who has read any of my items here at RedState may recall I have singed/closed out most of them with:
    Regards from NoMoTown (the MOTORlessCITY)
Liberals, looking to do for? America what they’ve done for? Detroit — that is DESTROY IT.

…. and/or the like. I consider it one of the Best examples of what Liberalism does to a City and then to a State when people are dumb enough to let them have control of even greater powers. So, I WELCOME such joking around, as they have a SOLID POINT, like “T’s” and others as well as my brief and to the point poke at Detroit and FAILED Liberal policies.

  • http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com katesmith

The first report said he was on a no-fly list per a senior intelligence officer. The second ABC News report said he was in a “law enforcement-intelligence database” but not on a no-fly list. A later report from Fox quoted Peter King just saying he was not on a no-fly list. I’ve heard enough from Peter King that I’d believe at least one of the first 2 reports. The elaborateness of the ‘database’ answer sounds very deliberate. In any case Obama deserves the blame but won’t get it.

  • mbecker908

We need a Presidential Finding authorizing the death of every suspected Muslim in the world.

  • anotherindyfilmguy

Just because he says he doesn’t mean anything at the moment.

Odds are he was just a lone nutjob…
    Firecracker sound could be:
    1. Detonator by itself that doesn’t set off main charge.
    2. Insufficient explosives.
    3. A firecracker.

Either way it doesn’t fit the MO of AQ which tends to be:
    1. Bringing enough explosive materials to hurt the target.
    2. Multiple attacks that are either the same type with different targets or followups to get at responders etc.

  • anotherindyfilmguy

facts often come later, way after the story exhausts it’s fame.

  • http://www.suvstrategery.blogspot.com SoFiMil

According to the news account, the plane landed safely at 11:51 am Detroit time. This would be 6:51 am Honolulu time. However, according to Politico, the Commander in Chief was not notified until sometime between 9:00 and 9:30 Hawaii time.

    http://www.politico.com/politico44/perm/1209/briefed_by_phone_230a356a-550a-4cb4-99a6-2a352a596f6c.html

I’d still like confirmation of this, as I know in rapidly developing situations, the first reports are often completely wrong. However, apparently the White House can’t even narrow down the time when the President was first contacted further than 1/2 hour.

It looks like the only thing the White House has done correctly so far regarding this incident is define it as a terrorist incident.

This shows that shoes are not the only way to get explosives on planes. So can we have common sense screening, instead of knee jerk, make people walk across nasty airport floors without theirs shoes on screening?

  • SteveLA

Last time I was in the UK I was interviewed prior to presenting ticket and passport, sort of like what the Israelis do. I’d really like to see TSA start doing that sort of screening instead of the shoes, and belts, and hats, and all the rest of the feel good crud that they do now.

Heck, I’m even in favor of “profiling”.

Nigeria is almost half Christian and half Muslim. Religious conflicts not just exist there – most of them end up extremely violent. Combine that with almost nonexistent law enforcement, and you have extremists on both sides sprouting up everywhere in that country. The problem with Islamic extremists is that they tend to idolize certain groups, such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. (remember, these groups are considered actually “legal” in some countries) And of course, the single biggest problem with those groups is that they all advocate international terrorism.

It’s a recipe for disaster. But it must be orders of magnitude tougher to put together names of those who should be on no-fly list in Nigeria.

From my website. The point of this is that Obama is the only one who doesn’t realize we are at war. Now you could run down the “he’s a Muslim” road if you want. I’ll stay with “he’s an idiot” theory. It is easier to prove. God was on the side of those people tonight. Certainly the government’s security detail wasn’t. The greatest thing about this is the blind arrogance and stupidity our people have at times. As I note in my post the government proudly announced the guy was on a watch list. WHAT??! You are telling us you knew he shouldn’t have been on a plane and he made it, WITH A BOMB!! And you admit it? Man, that is something you keep in your pocket along with your hands as you look around innocently and whistle. As a former police officer I can tell you this is one thing you never say:

“The man was apparently already on the government’s no-fly list of suspected terrorists, ABC News said a senior intelligence official told them.”

They might as well start cutting their hair into a bowl shape and start slapping each other and poking each other in the eye while going “Yuck yuck yuck”

It was only a year ago, we all were “Thanking W.” for keeping us safe, whether or not this jihadi dedicated Muslim was working on AQ’s behalf is moot — had the explosive detonated, this weekend the world would realize too that W. kept us safe while Obama has not. Thank God it did not.

    http://www.thankyoupresidentgeorgewbush.com/

It appears the explosive was akin to either Richard Reid of “Shoebomber” fame OR known as the “Mother of Satan bomb” by terrorist Palestinians . It will be interesting to find weather Omar Farouk Abdul Mutallab had any communications with anyone in the U.S. prior to this.

It will be interesting to see if opposition to “Gitmo North” grows any with the prospect that Al Qaeda terrorists will get to live high on the hog, er, lamb chop in the same land they want to destroy. [ speaking of -- rally against Gitmo North ppppplease: http://michellemalkin.com/2009/12/23/rallying-against-gitmo-north/ ].

It will be interesting to see if Omar Mutallab (a/k/a earlier named as Abdul Mudallad. Mudallad?s name popped up on Terror Watch List Database) has any connection to released detainees now in Yemen, where the device was acquired (h/t Despardes).

Just being snarky because of the military attack, when they did not jump to conclusions.

I live about 2 miles from Metro Airport… scary stuff I tell you. I am wondering if MI is a target because the FBI killed the Iman in Dearborn a month or so ago..

  • aelie

There will always be potential terrorists. But eliminating organization that sets examples such as Al Qaeda and Hamas also gets rid of acts that inspire those potential terrorists to attempt attacks. Lacking inspirations, small terrorist cells would lose heart and many would never form in the first place.

  • aelie

Al Qaeda already has carried out attacks by small group of terrorists. It’s only logical they try solo terrorists to avoid falling into a pattern. It’s also well known that Al Qaeda has been recruiting terrorists in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia for a while. That’s obviously to avoid profiling done on Arabs. So we can’t really rule out that this attack was carried out independently yet.

The danger of Al Qaeda isn’t that they succeed most of their attacks. It’s the benefit their organizational skill. That allows production of propaganda for potential terrorists, training of those recruits, and planning of more effective methods of attack. Getting rid of terrorists organizations would thus be definitely beneficial to reducing the number of these attacks.

Suspect in attempted bombing of Detroit flight had visa to attend “religious ceremony”.

From Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch webiste…………….

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2009/12/suspect-in-attempted-bombing-of-detroit-flight-had-visa-to-attend-religious-ceremony.html

This is potentially significant, due to the highly plausible double meaning of the “ceremony” as an act of jihad, as well as for jihadists’ common habit of referring to an upcoming attack as a “wedding.” At the very least, it would behoove authorities to ask for more details before granting a visa, and restrict the interval for which it is valid.

    snip

    Update……….
ABC News has since revised their report from religious “ceremony” to “seminar.” In any event, the fact remains that the visa was strikingly generous, and authorities did not ask enough questions about the “religious” nature of the suspect’s trip.

    ==============

    Paranoid ?

I don’t care if that’s what anybody thinks.

As a nation, we have every reason to be that way.

We either start profiling or civilians will start dying like fields of flowers in a flood.

Take your pick, because this administration WANTS their crisis too good to waste. They crave it. They need it.

  • LibRick

is that we can apply all kinds of security measures in American airports but we’re only as safe as the airport security that other nations actually implement.

It’s been reported that this terrorist had the explosive device strapped to his leg. I hope that Homeland Security doesn’t react in their usual knee-jerk way by making all Americans take off their pants for screening and instead beefs up intel and forces foreign airports to comply with effective verifiable security measures as a prerequisite to flying into America.

Please, don’t make Americans drop their drawers in airports. Hey, let Amsterdam do that; they might embrace it.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

Well I *agree* that we should be looking to destroy AQ.

What I didn’t understand was the idea that we should assume any mission organized by AQ will end in success, as I said elsewhere in the thread.

AQ is capable of failure. Heck, the US armed forces are capable of failure, see Carter administration for when they operate without proper political support.

So while I’m not necessarily going to believe any words that come out of the mouths of terrorists, I’m also not going to rule out the possibility that they’re telling us the truth. Hitler told the truth about what he was going to do, after all, right there in Mein Kampf.

Remember the left lives by the ends justify the means. the left has no rules about contradictions as long as they achieve the “ends”.

Obama dispatches tens of thousands of troops to Afghanistan. So of course you will see him come out of his bunker soon and tell us because there is still terror he was right in deploying troops. This will buy him some time with his fringe kooks on the left.

  • rbdwiggins

that many of us feared: The creation of the Department of Homeland Security was bad law, would do real damage to our national security, and in actual practice, would make us less safe.

When coupled with an incompetent department-head, the damage would increase exponentially.

I can see how some would abuse edits to derail the thread – even if what was edited when is displayed. That’s not how I would use edit, but I suppose you can’t stop the abuse from happening. I write my posts on Notepad first then copy and paste to the board. But that only allows for proofreading obvious grammar and spelling mistakes. I suppose it’s time to implement different method of proofreading I had been told.

And it’s only my second week posting here – a forum with large number of readers – and I am used to boards with edit function. I will get used to it. :)

last 9 years. For 2 years after 9/11 I expected an attack every major American holiday. When they never happened you let your guard down.
Having a president who for all intents & purposes declares the War on Terrorists over just emboldens our enemies.
A people that holds grudges for a thousand years is not going to give up after less than a decade.

The sources told CNN that the suspect flew into Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on a KLM flight from Lagos, Nigeria, and is not believed to be on any “no fly” list, although his name does appear in a U.S. database of people with suspect connections.

Abdulmutallab did not undergo secondary security screening in Amsterdam, an administration official and the Dutch counterterrorism coordinator said.

Looks like the failure to screen happened in Nigeria, big surprise…NOT.

  • aelie

Let’s take Hamas as an example. Individual terrorists can disrupt the daily life in target society. But those attacks never really mounted to threatening the existence of Israel. They were displays of dissatisfaction by a minor and radical fraction of population.

It became a different story when Hamas got really involved. Yes, recruitment, training, and planned attacks allowed more frequent successful attacks. But terrorism incidents became political statements. Hamas used them to both further its popularity and wrestle political power away from Fatah. That allowed individual terrorist attacks to have far greater consequences. Hamas itself became vulnerable to decapitation strikes, and IDF has used them effectively in Gaza. but the damage done to Israel (and ironically, Palestanian society) became far greater. This is why we must eliminate terrorist organizations.

Simply stopping terrorist attack is a losing fight, because one will eventually get through. But taking out organizations can reduce both the number of attempts and effectiveness (in terms of both lives and politics) of incidents. One must destroy those organizations by striking with force and undermining public support simultaneously. That’s how Bush succeeded with Iraq. That’s also how Obama is blundering away successes made in Afghanistan.

Muslims certainly didn’t stop attacking in Iraq during Ramadan. So why are we supposed to stop responding? Fast forward to Obama. Since this terrorist failed using a flawed plan, should we respond in kind by attacking terrorists using a flawed plan and fail as well?

Yes. that argument sounds ridiculous. But that’s how Obama has responded to foreign policy crisis thus far.

  • izoneguy

    But the people have not….
    And they will not….

We will fight them in the aisles of our airliners….

We will fight them in the malls….

    We will fight them ANYWHERE….

    With whatever we have….

  • http://www.obamafailblog.net obamafailblog

    With all due respect…

Why is this an “attempted” terrorist attack? Sure, it was unsuccessful, but the attack happened. If there is smoke and fire aboard that plane – and early reports indicate as much – then this was an attack. The word “attacked” makes it seem less real, less dangerous… Less of a need for a swift response.

This is the same logic that allows the MSM to classify an Israeli airstrike as an “attack,” while completely dismissing the dozens of Hamas rockets that prompted the Israeli airstrike, simply because the Hamas rockets failed to do any damage. The incompetence of the aggressor should not alter our perception of his aggression, should it?

Think of it this way – if all the Japanese fighters were shot down on their way to Pearl Harbor, it still would have been an attack on Pearl Harbor. It still would have been an act of war.

a truckload of explosives. I feel pretty assured (though not good about it) that an organization like AQ probably knows how much explosive force is needed to take down an airliner from the inside.

The main way I’d see it connected to AQ would be if it was a test run of materials that either failed this time or had previously succeeded without detection/prevention. But that will take time to root out and if the guy is off kilter enough to try this I’d be highly skeptical of anything he has to say until verified in some manner.

  • http://vbushmills.blogtownhall.com/ vassar

Airport security here . . .well . . .My teen daughter recently was allowed to keep a large pair of scissors in her carry-on (she forgot they were with her knitting project) but had to give up her jar of Skippy peanut butter. Understandable. She might have caused the pilot to get his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth, thereby losing control of the plane. The scissors were allowed because the TSA agent measured them with a ruler. 8 inches from tip to handle. No problem.

  • aelie

It only takes one attack for Al Qaeda to leave its mark. That accomplishes their objective. As far as multiple attacks by individuals go: while group attacks might have greater chance of success while its being carried out, they also run higher risk of being discovered before the plan’s execution.

It’s possible that this was a work of an individual. But how can we know for sure? Spreading the attackers and probing for the weak link is how attacks on everything are carried out. Since we know Al Qaeda has been recruiting in sub-Saharan countries, it’s very much possible that this was an attempt to find out alternate routes and methods for future attacks. Even if this guy wasn’t related to Al Qaeda, a new route of method and attack have been demonstrated to them.

Does this administration rely only on media reports? Where is the Vice-Precedent? Where is Secretary of Homeland Security? Is she still hunting for right-wing Veterans?

And oh btw?. all this after that Cairo speech, ban on torture and promise to close Gitmo. Even banning use of word terrorism. That was man caused disaster. We know for sure that those crappy, lofty, feeling based attempts of the novice are not workable.

And yes THANK GOD there was no damage.

Now, everyone must remain seated for the final hour of a flight. Why? Because the plane was on final approach when it happened. Except, he was sitting down when he set off the explosives. Making everyone sit will not stop another attempt.

I wanted a common sense approach. I got this instead.

GW called evil for what it is, he called terrorism for what it is.

Obama in charge has made us less safe, I have no doubt.

Of all the wrong things a president could do in one year, BHO wins the prize for all time, but his arrogance prohibits him from heeding any warnings

I am afraid of what it might take for him and his administration to really wake up.

I probably should have put this in a stand-alone diary and gone absolutely barking-mad insane snarkariffic…. Somebody go for it…… I’ve got bigger fish to fry right now (all Israeli Ambassadors and Consulate directors have been called back to Tel Aviv “for a conference”).

Additional Layer of Restrictions Is Imposed on Airline Passengers.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/27/us/27security.html

In the wake of the terrorism attempt Friday on a Northwest Airlines flight, federal officials on Saturday imposed a new layer of restrictions on travelers that could lengthen lines at airports and limit the ability of international passengers to move about an airplane.

Among other steps being imposed, passengers on international flights coming to the United States will apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps. Overseas passengers will be restricted to only one carry-on item aboard the plane, and domestic passengers will probably face longer security lines.

just DUMB!!! More Liberal “Feel Good” knee-jerk do-nothingness…. So the message Obama is sending, ‘Please attempt to blow up planes over the Ocean”…. or slightly after take-off…. Duh!

see the “join the TSA” comment above and expound on the people who would then want to become “Flight Crew WARDENS” then.

pretty much since 9-11. Alaska flies non-stop SEA to Reagan National and they are tres serious about keeping you in your seat for the last hour. ANY disruption and the plane diverts.

9/11 flights were Outbound (Westward) flights, but it is easy to understand why one would think it be easier for them to attempt to do it last minute Inbound – though there is no real control for them as to what they hit (crash into) if successful.

Obviously, it just suggests they will still (possibly) attempt to take over Outbounds (or Inbounds at a 90 minute out mark) and then push the planes speed bounds in order to attempt to crash them upon a target before Procedures would scramble counter-measures.

More obviously, and AQ probably more than happy to oblige, that AQ would just pick easier targets and methods.

Most of these measures just inconvenience all of us and aid in promoting FEAR and I’d prefer we stop helping the enemy achieve instilling TERROR. The whole problems here happened OUTSIDE US TERRITORY and out of our Control! – we are NOT going to put TSA in Airports across the planet just for Flights bound for the US to “feel better” about limiting AQ’s chances.

  • mom2oneson

that dealt with a lot of hijackings after the revolution. They have an armed guard and sometimes two on their planes. Why not do that instead of inspecting the toes of grandmas flying to see their kids for Thanksgiving.

We “Conservatives” have always known that “WE THE PEOPLE” are the “First line of Defense” and responsible to help (when/where onsite) as the First-responders in any/all given situation and/or Emergency!! Whether it be Medical, Fire, Criminal activity, someone being Hungry, providing Shelter, etc… to help our Family, Friends, Neighbors, AND/OR TOTAL STRANGERS because it is the Right thing to do!

That is, of course, not to say Govt. doesn’t have the responsibility to provide some degree of protection – DEFENSE/SECURITY is the one area Govt. has a place! However, there will never be 100% assurance!

It always returns to Liberal-Laziness and their real Religion and “Worship at the Church of Government!” They will NEVER accept responsibility to do anything for themselves or MORAL obligation to do for others when/where we can because of Real FAITH and Morals rather than Govt. dictates to do this, or provide for that, etc…. There were some folks on this Flight that understood the First-Line concept I pointed out in the first paragraph, as did some on 9/11. Liberals just want to be able to remain STUPID and wander around aimlessly, with some equality of “outcome” rather than “equality of opportunity” and have it be everyone elses problem to always COVER FOR THEIR FAILINGS!

“Separation from Church to State” (libreligion) – Liberals misuse Religion for Liberal Govt. expansion
+Render – Render unto Caesar (completely misunderstood/misused by Liberals)
+Scientific distortion – Scientific distortion (more LibReligion and wedge for ‘Seperation from Church to State’) (& NO, that is NOT a Scientology reference)
+”The Greater Good” distortion ‘The Greater Good’ — “The needs of the many out-weigh the needs of the few, or the one.”
+All about duping the Politically Brain-dead
+Liberal Laziness – Liberal Laziness – definition and examples
+Effective Equivalence – Effective Equivalence (more)

Some may find this as some aside, while I expect that MOST will understand it really is still the complete underlying “Liberal” condition that has brought us to any/all of this throughout the World let alone here in the US. Countless years of undermining how and why we do things here in our REPUBLIC. There will be (as we discussed above) still more knee-jerk, feel-good, but do-nothingness, from Liberal Govt to make Liberals “Feel Good” and just have them voting the JackAss label.

    Perhaps we need to ….
    1- BAN all Carry-ons
2- Require Airports to provide Change-rooms so as EVERY passenger will be able to get out of their clothes, so as to pack them into their Check-in luggage before checking-in, and wearing pre-apporoved “Airline wear” before going into
    3- Full body scanning
4- ALL luggage (AND CARGO, a whole other story we don’t discuss) go through an initial Equipment-scan screening, follwed by sniffer dogs, followed by REQUIRED (for each and every piece of luggage) inspection by TSA Personnel, back to the Dogs, and through one last Equipment-scan… You know, just to be sure to reduce error at all levels and Balloon TSA employment.
5- Strap all people on Flights into seats, in case they SWALLOWED components to smuggle onto planes (like Drug mules) and got passed screenings. “Supervised” bathroom breaks.
    ETC…..

  • izoneguy

That is the bottom line. And why I have not flown in years.
I hate it now. I use to fly a bunch in the 80″s & 90″s….
Now it is just a hassle…Most of the flyers are idiots and have not a clue how to handle themselves. Most of them are rude and act as if they are the only ones that matter….

I drive everywhere. I don’t care if it takes another day or not.
I realize that some people have to fly for business and those are the ones I have empathy for.

only a matter of time, a short time, before Comrade Obama serves up all the Thousands Standing Around to a union; they’re dying for them. You know, something is wrong when some guy with a turban and a blurry passport can get on and an Amrican citizen with a TWIC gets quality time with the FBI because he forgot he had a pocket knife.

that ObmamaBinBiden will remain IN HIDING until the Radicals come up with something brilliant (in their pea-brains) to feed into the TelePrompter for the Appeaser-In-Chief to recite.

Again, the FAILING was overseas and yet the Liberal, knee-jerk, feel-good, do-nothing really, reaction is “keep people seated 1 hour outbound in.” Beyond DUMB! So they blow up the plane 80 minutes out instead. BRAINLESS!

Certainly, one would expect and accept that Airports be a bit more cautious and on a heightened state of Alert, regardless of whether Threat Level is oficially raised or not, JUST IN CASE this was not a one-off, lone-wolf, diversion, for a second-wave actual assault. I DO NOT think that is the case, but it is certainly prudent to be prepared and cautious (as I outlined elsewhere in these threads).

The only thing called for here is to PRAISE those who did their job, that the TSA, FAA, HSA, and related agencies are working with everyone at home and abroad to keep alll Travelers safe, but/and remind all that we must remain vigilant and that we are all responsible (First line of Defense and First Response) to be alert as to what goes on around us and bring suspicious behaviors to the attention of Authorities for investigation. Granted, however, treading that fine line of stepping things up without instilling panic and paranoia (over-reacting) out of a sense of added precaution and looking like no concern what-so-ever is a given to not be so cut and dry!

We all know, however, the ultimate Liberal response will be a “Feel-good” band-aid to make fellow Lib’s feel-good when there was little anyone, in so far as US authorities, could do to prevent this — THAT HAPPENED (failed to prevent this person boarding with chemical agents) OVERSEAS! Why he wasn’t on the NO-FLY is about the only real discussion to be had and whether authorities anywhere/everywhere continue to do as much as possible to keep us safe in this environment where there will NEVER be any 100% assurance.

But Lib’s will demand more something… anything… Government solution boondoogle do-nothing… in the name of the Church Of Government – Cradle to Grave delivery of protection and/or providing anything/everything else for them. Again, it all, sadly, ties together.

since I didn’t explicitly say this, for our moronic Liberals who can’t grasp it, I was NOT suggesting we go to such a ridiculous degree of Police-State-Security measure but suggesting that such would STILL not make us safe. Our enemies would still find ways around whatever is done to get things onto Planes BEFORE passengers even board for an awaiting to board Terrorist to then retrieve the items from the Bathroom or where-ever.

  • beanerecmo

This was not ‘attempted’ terrorist attack for two reasons. First, the administration declared there is no terrorism; they are man-made disasters. Second, it was a terrorist attack; luckily, it failed.

  • blooch

who have found creative ways to arm themselves against terrorists on the plane and get through security undetected. It can be done very easily. If TSA is going turn every flight into ConAir, dedicated flyers will make every effort not to be prison biotches. Some enterprising Martial Arts instructor is going to make a fortune teaching hand-to-hand combat in confined spaces.

TSA agents on planes may be assigned randomly, self-defense, less so.
