Fact Checking the AP

How many reporters did the AP deploy to “fact check” Sarah Palin? Nearly a dozen?

Today, the AP is running a report on Rush Limbaugh and notes — not for the first time:

Limbaugh broadcasts from his mansion in Palm Beach, Fla.

That’s a flat out lie.

I know where Rush broadcasts from and it ain’t his house. In fact, as Rush himself has pointed out (and no, the AP doesn’t get a pass for not listening to Rush because Media Matters, from which the AP gets most of its talking points, does listen to Rush on a daily basis), Palm Beach prohibits home-office businesses and has since around the turn of the 20th century.

Rush broadcasts out of an office building in Palm Beach. Heck, had the AP read the New York Times Sunday Magazine profile of Rush from last year when his new deal with Premier Radio was announced, they would have know that fact.

Wasn’t there a profile on 60 minutes where Rush and his EIB broadcast operation was profiled? I think they showed video of the building and the studio.

The MSM and AP in particular, or at least their research department is indeed pretty lame, but that’s not news ether.

The AP had to at least try back then.

The degree to which class envy has seeped into our culture is disgusting.

We used to idolize self-made millionaires, not resent their relative success. I wonder if that is still the case.

Journalistic integrity has always been a rather loose bit of ethics, but these days there isn’t even an attempt at it.

Briann is so right about that. I still can’t get over Obama complaining about “fat cat bankers” and then he goes and rents a $4000 compound on the beach.

Also, all those bailed out banks spending millions for his “coronation” on 1-20-09.

I also find it quite weird that Rush, Obama & Pelosi are all vacationing on the islands at the same time and the hate of the leftists wishing him dead is plain evil at work.

  • smagar

So what if the story is wrong? The MSM’s preferred readers—-liberals—-don’t care, so why should the MSM?

If they got a story about conservatives right they might get fired!

    just another opportunity!

“Yesterday we may have misspoke and said El Slobbo broadcasts out of his 10-gazzillion dollar palace (but whose countin’?) What we really meant to say was that he commutes every day to his office where he broadcasts his far-right extremist message to his millions of ignorant listeners who are so stupid it is a miracle they can find his station on the broadcast dial. (We feel so sad for them, and pity their adjunct ignorance, but since we are so open-minded we understand that this is no fault of their own.) By the way, did we mention how he commutes to his office? Is it by train? No. Is it by bicycle? Are you kidding me? It’s by /car/! Yes, I really did say it. He travels to work by /car/! And it’s not just any car: it doesn’t run on batteries! Yes, I know. We had a hard time believing it ourselves. Could this be another opportunity to pass another law? Our children will thank us. We will have saved the Earth, and the World. All praise be AlGore, Amen.

Anyway, thanks for reading this humble apology. You know we always speak the truth and you never need to fact-check us, but sometimes the truth cannot be understood by smaller minds until it is explained in simpler language, preferably with monosyllables. I knew you’d understand. You never, ever have to question us. You can tell by the smirks on our faces that we are /so/ much smarter then the extremists that walk amongst you.

Stop the illegal wars! Stop the torturers! Bring Bush and his evil empire to the Hague for all their war crimes! Comrades, we bid you adieu, and may your money be mine^H^H^Hours someday. Peace-out.”

How many mansions that his wife owns, the person who wears the pants, does John Kerry live in. Wealth is only bad when not possessed by a die hard liberal.

  • http://locomotivebreath1901.blogspot.com/ locomotivebreath1901

    It doesn’t matter, Erick.

It’s one of those ‘fake but accurate’ stories that bolsters the Left’s dissonant thought and validates their class envy warfare:

Limbaugh has a mansion; is a Republican; so, therefore, he is evil.

Childish, one dimensional syllogism in three easy steps.

    Liberalism defined.

I’m always amazed at the RS brigade when they collectively leap to the defense of Rush Limbaugh. Although he is undeniably a very good entertainer, he has no original thoughts and reflects the least admirable elements of Conservative thought. Just a modern version of Father Coughlin.

If Rush weren’t a RS/Heritage Foundation mouthpiece, would any supposed Conservative really support a college dropout with 3 divorces, a drug habit, and the gall to have his housekeeper take the fall? Really??

  • oblio

5 mos of waiting for this. There must be a whole field full of planted sockpuppets waiting to geminate.

  • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

You know, it’s Father Couglin, not the conservatives, who wanted single payer medical care.

  • vanekl

it’s how you pick yourself up that counts. Some people never do; others are unable to without blaming everybody but themselves. Rush came forward about his drug habit. I’d wager Rush learned more about himself by overcoming this obstacle then he does sitting behind a microphone.

If you want to judge people by their mistakes, you can, but when you’ve finished judging and discarding all those around you you will be the only person left in the room. When you get a little older this will probably make more sense.

I’m not an expert on Rush trivia and so I probably will not respond to inquiries by you. Your choice of words indicates that you have already made up your mind and are not here for discussion, but came here to put down people who threaten your world view. Many people grow out of this simplistic, idealized, self-centered mindset. Have a good life.

Personally, I think Rush is an arrogant, and often juvenile, blowhard. But that doesn’t change the fact that he does an excellent job of getting the conservative viewpoint heard; if we left that up to the main-stream media… well, it wouldn’t happen. He was the first, and in many ways is still the best, at countering the relentless leftist spin of the old media. It’s hard to say that the man who for years was the ONLY voice in conservative talk radio, somehow did that with “no original thoughts”.

To answer your question, people on the right jump to his defense because (a) his enemies are, almost without exception, *our* enemies, and (b) his enemies never seem to try to take him on in the arena of facts and ideas, but rely instead on personal attacks using distortions (like the “fake soldiers controversy”), outright lies (like the “racist comments” they “cited” to prevent him from buying into an NFL team), or subtle misdirections like this “mansion” comment.

By the way, I’d say that his being a college drop-out and going on to become the wealthiest broadcaster in the country says a lot more about the irrelevance of a college education than it does about Limbaugh’s character. While we’re at it, why is it no one ever mentions the fact a college degree is a pretty rare commodity among the Hollywood glitterati who spent eight years painting GWB (who had both an undergrad degree and an MBA) stupid.

Also said he “railed against Barack Sba.a’s presidency…”. That’s not right either, but it fits their narrative. He rails against Barack Obama’s POLICIES. And rightfully so!

  • larryp

homes. I think it was free. The owners got the heady feeling of having the President as guests.

Rush isn’t some Kennedy that was born with a silver spoon.

I remember hearing or reading that Rush supposedly told the EMT’s he had taken pain medication for his back problems. Not true.

I remember Rush recently complaining while on air about the pain he was having in his neck. I believe he said one day that he was standing up so as to ease the pain. Those with a subscription may have seen him do that on the DittoCam. According to the link above, he has a pinched nerve in his neck, and cannot take pain medication because of his past addiction problem. He refuses surgery because it may affect his larynx which he is not willing to do. I am so sorry for his pain, while at the same time not wanting to lose his wisdom on air.

All tests and procedures done yesterday came out “good” according to the update. Thank you God!

I knew he had a “new woman” in his life, but, I wasn’t aware that she is his “fiancee.” Good for Rush, though I am kinda surprised that he is willing to take the plunge again. I thought that would never happen.

When Rush gets behind the golden EIB mike again, I am going to scream and shout my thanks to our good and kind Lord for not taking him away from all of us who rely on his daily lessons in conservatism. Most especially now.

  • Duke

    to the AP…., why?

  • peg_c

if not multiple mansions in several countries. But yes, Rush actually earned every dime he has. Depending on your definition of “earned,” this is not true of many lefties.

When I come across anything by the AP, I just figure it’s false or wrong and will be corrected soon by someone I actually trust and respect.

  • peg_c

Which RS’er got drunk and wrote this one? LOLOL

  • peg_c

spend more on 1 date night in NYC than this family spends on our mortgage in 4 years!! Why don’t lefties get outraged over this?? Asked and answered…

  • peg_c

Thanks! Yeah, this would be his 4th marriage. I have to say I’m surprised but supposedly they are very happy together. Good for him!

What he said the day he was standing up doing the show was the dittocam was down for an upgrade and it was handy since his standing did not configure well with the camera angle. What I want to know is where does he go from here, if he has damaged disks, won’t have surgery and can’t take pain meds??

Doesn’t sound like a very “comfortable” and fun Hawaiian vacation even before the rush to the hospital. :-(

  • http://xmmlbchat.blogspot.com katesmith

Was streamed and picked up by Fox. Said tests revealed no heart or arterial damage, doesn’t know what caused the pain but appears to be fine. Said the American health system worked great, he got the best of care the same as everyone else would. Regarding his back pain, I heard him say on his radio show he was standing up due to cervical back pain. Said it comes and goes, he can’t get surgery because they would have to go through the larynx to do it. He can’t take the small chance his larynx would be damaged. Re pain pills, a guy at the press conf. asked if he was taking painkillers again for his back pain. Rush said no, just taking prednisone.

  • Scope

I don’t have the Dittocam. I wonder if acupuncture would work for pain management. I never had that either, I have a phobia to needles.

Great great news from katesmith below. I’ve been out and haven’t heard it yet. My prayers, as well as everyone elses worked. God heard us. Yeahhh!

I’m sitting here listening to Michael Bubble (Buble) singing I’ve got the World on a String, and feeling that way with this great news.
